unique way to include bff

My fiance and I are having a small wedding including just our children as the wedding party - it's the second wedding for both of us. My best friend introduced us and if we were having a traditional wedding, she would be my maid of honor. How can I include her and honor her without this tradition? I don't want to just have her do a typical reading, guest book, etc...and give her a "job". I want to do something unique to show how special she is and how much we appreciate her. Any ideas welcome, thank you!

Are you doing a program? You could do some sort of special tribute/thanks to her in the program.

Or maybe you could have her escorted in to her seat, like a lot of weddings do with parents?

I would just get her a little gift with a thought felt letter from the both of you.

Are you having a reception? Maybe a little toast thanking her too.
