View Full Version : Not interested in bottle

So for about the past week neither baby is really interested in their bottle, well more not interested in formula. They went from eating 8 oz (3 times a day) to barely eating 4oz a bottle. So I stopped making 8oz because that is a waste. Mackenzie screams after about 2 oz, especially with morning bottle. Logan just throws his aside before its all gone and puts his binky back in his mouth. So I think I am going to cut out the morning bottle since that is the one they really aren't eating. As much of a pain it is for me, I am going to try to start getting up and giving them solids for breakfast. Today Logan woke up and I got up with him and fed him some applesauce (unsweetened of course) a few little crunchies (similar to puffs only bigger), and he had some water from a sippy cup. When Mackenzie wakes up I will probably do the same.
They are very interested in our food though. It is so hard to eat in front of them because I end up having to share, which is fine but DH won't help, so I don't get to eat much myself because I spend most of the time giving them my food. I take a bite then have to give each of them a bite. I've tried giving them some to eat on their own but they have a hard time picking it up.
Did anyone else's baby stop wanting bottle around 10 months or so??

Averi became very uninterested in the bottle about a month ago. It has since then fixed itself. I not sure if I did anything or it was just a phase but I can offer some ideas to make it a little easier that helped with Averi.
Try sitting is a dimly lit quiet room. If there is too much going on Averi wanted to look around and not focus on eating.
Have a binki handy. I would let her suck on the binki for a minute or two just to get her sucking then I would quickly remove the binki and replace it with the bottle. I called this the bink bate and switch maneuver :)
Lastly give them something to hold. For Averi it's anything, a towel, lovie, even a bib. She would play with that and it would keep her occupied but not too overstimulated.
Good luck, I hope it's just a phase.

Finn did it around 6 or 7 months when my parents babysat him (he doesn't get a bottle when he's with us/me). All he'd do was chew chew chew on the bottle. I don't even get milk ready for them unless it's going to be more than 5 or 6 hours anymore, because he won't drink it. Just a sippy cup with water and food.
Finn started getting really interested in our food at the same time, too. It's probably really funny watching us all eat together, getting food from both of us. It feels like chaos sometimes...and a lot of times he is screaming to me to give him food while I am trying to take a bite! One bite takes too much time! lol I am really looking forward to the time when he can truly feed himself (rather than small snack stuff like puffs, mum-mums, and pieces of bread).

My girls have been uninterested in a long time but the bad thing is, they aren't interested much in solids either. So they end up really hungry in the evening and eat more than half of their daily calories in the evening and by waking up 3 times at night. It sucks! I try to get them to eat in the day but they are just way too busy for that! When they are actually interested in what I'm eating, they have no patience for me to cut stuff up and feed it to them. When I get it in their mouth, they are already complaining and freaking out because they want more, even though they haven't even chewed what is in their mouth. And then they get frustrated and don't want anymore because they are angry...sigh....
Good luck!

I am actually hoping it isn't just a phase and continues. I honestly plan on throwing all their bottles away on their birthday ( i know I say that now haha, but hopefully can follow through with it). Today they only had 2 bottles each, 1 oz in the morning, and 1 6oz in the afternoon. They are really interested in our food and will eat most of it. I feel like i am starving most of the time because I share my dinner with them. I have been trying to get them to drink water, which they LOVE water, but only from my cup, so they don't get dehydrated since they are only drinking about 15 - 20oz of formula a day now.
Maybe you can cut up the food before they see it so that they can have it right away?? I usually give them some puffs or something if they are getting upset that I am taking too long, usually works.

I do this with Annika when she's fussy about nursing but I know she's hungry. Totally works (at least for now).
