I ran across another gender old wives tale this morning...

"If your child has a duck tail of hair then your next child will be of the opposite gender."

So a duck tail is the hair that forms into a point at the nape of the neck. First DS does not have one and I had another boy. Brant has one, sooo.... ?!? Hoping this one is true, as I would LOVE to have a girl! Anyone with multiple children care to verify this one?

I think you'd be great with a little girl so I hope it's true. ;)

This thread makes me want to lift the hair on the necks of my nieces/nephews and test this! LOL!

:crossfingers: for a girl! :)

I do not have a ducks tail and my parents had another girl, Josh comes form a fmaily of three boys, none of them have duck tails either. I am going to do a little research at work and see if i can find some more facts that you will get the girl you have been parying for! :crossfingers:

OK, this is really, really, really weird. :boggle: Scientifically speaking, this should NOT work! LOL! Because each time you get pregnant is a separate event! And what if someone has a baby, and then has a miscarriage! Is the next child dependent on the child they already have or the one that did not survive? And what if a man has a child by one woman and then another child by a different woman? Since it's the men's sperm that decides, should that figure into this?! What if a woman has a child and then has another child by a different father.

Regardless, my nephew DOES have a ducktail, and he has a little sister. My brother's daughter does NOT have a ducktail, and she also has a little sister. So, according to them, this "theory" works.

But scientifically speaking, this should NOOOOOOOOOT work!!!!!!!!! :bbeek:

Okay, this thread is totally making me laugh! I should check my brothers, as my oldest brother should NOT have one, but the middle one should (I'm the youngest). Hmm...

Hehe, it is true. But no matter how strong genetics are, there are always to manipulate it. Did you know that "male" sperm swim faster, and therefore die faster? So, if you're early in your ovulation then you're more likely to have a girl because the sperm have farther to swim and so the "male" sperm die before getting there, but if you have ovulated for a while then you're more likely to have a boy because the "male" sperm will get there more quickly and the egg is closer? Perhaps the duck tale is an indicator that your next eggs will behave differently than the one that became this baby? I don't know, just reaching here... but I think it genetics and their apparent opposition to conventional thinking can be fun. Good point Salayia.

I have been meaning to check my boys. Then i went and gave them hair cuts (including trimming the backs with the razor) and forgot to look. I am almost positive one of them had the duck tail thingy, but I don't remember who!
