View Full Version : Feeding troubles

Well if it isn't one thing it's another. Averi has been drinking her bottles a little better, it's still a fight but not as bad but solid feeding is a NIGHTMARE. Averi doesn't want to eat the purees anymore. She will immediately close her mouth or push away to spoon. I have to get her to laugh to sneek some in, but she is becoming wise to this too. Since Averi has no teeth I have to give her really soft finger foods. She will eat Gerber puffs, or any puffs, cheerios and mum mums without a fight, but that is it! The girl will refuse to eat anything else. I've tried:
Bananas
Strawberrys
Cooked Apples
Cooked Pears
Canned Peaches
Corn
Soft cooked green beans
Cooked Carrots
Cooked potato
Toast
Canned Pea
Canned pineapple chucks
NONE of these things she will eat. I am know it's not that she doesn't like them because many of these things she would eat in puree form before.
I don't want to try any diary stuff yet because of her milk allergy. Any suggestions on what to try next? She can't just eat puffs and formula. :bbconfused:

Is she interested in your food? Finn started getting frustrated with us because his purees were so plain and our food smelled good! I know it's not for everyone, but we feed Finn almost exclusively grownup food as long as it's not high in fat/sugar/salt or made with nuts. We just make sure it's soft and small enough for him. I think if she can chew mum-mums and puffs, she can handle a lot of other stuff, teeth or not!

Honestly we hardly ever eat in front of her. The only meal we eat at home is dinner because we eat breakfast and lunch at work. And because she is fussy and overtired after getting home from daycare, we eat our dinner after she goes to bed. She does seem interested in feeding herself but only foods of her choosing like puffs.

I was going to suggest sharing whatever you eat with her also. Maybe you could try it out? I can understand wanting to wait to eat until after she goes to bed but at some point you guys will probably all eat together anyway. The girls love it when they get to have what we are having. They mow it down!

Are you blending the stuff for her or is it precanned?

Carter was a handful when it came to this stuff too. I took forever to get him interested in baby food or people food. I finally got him to like baby food and he decided a month later he didn't like it, but wouldn't get people food. One day he just decided ok, I'll eat it and was fine.
All I can suggest is keep trying. Try eating more in front of her so she see you eating some of the same foods you are giving her. Give her the same food even if she just plays with it at first. She'll pick up on it. I promise!

I would agree with the others to let her have food with a little more flavor. My fussy Sophia has refused to eat solids like her sis started doing last week but yesterday she got her hands on a banana and squished the mess out of it. I noticed her sucking on her fingers after and licking around her lips.
You're doing fine. Keep introducing new foods, Averi will eat when she gets hungry enough.

Averi hasn't eaten any solids for 3 days straight now. Last night I didn't even bother trying. I'm hoping it's due to her teething or it's just a phase. I still try the purees but it never goes well. And I have been trying all sorts of different finger foods but she just refuses to eat it.
The latest tries were:
Pieces of boiled chicken
Well cooked pasta
Hard boiled eggs
Small pieces of waffles
Bites sized potatoes
Yesterday she only drank 24 oz of formula but the day before she drank 32 oz so at least she is making it up in formula.

Oh I forgot to mention both Jon and I kept picking up the food on her tray and eating it and making "mmmmm" sounds. Averi was like fine you guys have it, picked up a little and tried to put it in our mouths, lol.

Awww that's so cute!
Katie still hasn't really got the hang of eating. She doesn't really eat enough to fill her tummy so she always ends up nursing shortly after. Hopefully Averi is just going through a short stage and she starts eating again. I don't really have any advice because I'm still trying to get Katie just to eat!
