Jonathan and I are meeting with a baker for the first time today and I'm kinda wondering what I should expect and what I should bring with me? Any advice?

Bring pictures of some of the cakes that you like. Hopefully they have some samples you can taste. See what kind of feel you get from the baker. If personalities do not click, then find someone else.

My fiance and I just went to speak with the woman who is doing our cake this Saturday.
Although I didn't, I would suggest you bring pictures with you of different cakes that you like. I brought my camera with me. There were some pictures that the baker showed us of different cakes she had made, and I was unable to take the pictures home with me, so I asked her and she let me take a picture of the picture. It sounds kind of strange, but it worked. Also think about what your colors are (if you know...we don't know yet what type of red we are using). That way the baker can tell you if he/she can make that color.
Have fun!

The place I'm going today is operated by 1 lady and she does nothing but wedding cakes and only does 1 per weekend (hence why we're looking 14 months in advance). She had an extensive online gallery that I looked at and she has more in her showroom. I have a few pictures (listed in my journals) that I'm taking, but none of them are exactly what we want. Kinda a mix of all.
She did say that if we book with her, she would like a picture of the wedding dress and a swatch of fabric (or paint strip that you get from home depot) with the exact colors on it so she can match. I think thats a great idea!

Fondant tastes AWFUL, buttercream icing is delicious and keep in mind if your wedding is indoor or outdoor and the climate (things tend to slide when heat rises) LOL!
Taste if you can! Most bakeries offer samples!

Ours is indoors. I have hear fondant tastes awful. We're going to do a faux fondant if it tastes alright. I do want fondant swags and sugar flowers... and if the faux fondant is nasty, we'll do good old buttercream!
