Get a budget! You can't do anything until you see how much you have to work with. A wedding can be pulled off with $1000 ot $100,000 so don't worry if your number seems small. If your budget isn't rock solid, under estimate a bit. It is always better to have a touch left over than to be in the hole.

After that, get a date. If you are REALLY worried about money avoid popular months and Saturdays. There is always competiton for those days, for example you will apy a ton more for a Saturday evening in June than you would for a Sunday afternoon in November. I had a cousin get married the Saturday after Thanksgiving. She got HUGE deals on florists, caterers, lcoations, ect because NO ONE wanted to plan a party or do any type of business with them just a couple days after Thanksgiving. The best part was a lot of family memebers who wouldn't have made it to her wedding were able to come since they were already in town too.

I hope that helps! Another great thing to do for ideas and money saving advice (if you need it) is to head to your local bookstore. At a place like Barnes and Noble they have big wedding planning sections with tons of great books filled with ideas. Flip through and see what you find.

Congrats!!! I agree. Plan on a budget and then decide on a couple different dates in order of preference. Then if the hall you really want is unavailable on a certain date you can plan for another date. Good luck!!!!
