So he's now 12 days old *sniff sniff* and i think it's time to graduate to a baby journal!
he's such a good baby, i really cant complain thus far... yesterday and today he's been an eating machine but that's the worst of it. Yeah at 3am when he's been hoping from boob to boob for an hour, it sucks... but it's worth it when i see that pretty face in the light of day.
Right now he's napping in the rock n play next to me making all sorts of cute noises... he's such a noisy sleeper unless he's on my boob LOL
we still are struggling a bit w/feeding but it seems that we've got the motions down, it's just that he sometimes gets overtired or frustrated and can't collect himself enough to latch...
I've started doing a lil tummy time w/him b/c he's already able to hold his head up for 30+ seconds when on the chest... this morning he managed to scoot himself from being vertical on the couch to being almost horizontal (so like facing the arm of the sofa to almost straight out). he's such a strong kid i have a feeling he may meet some of the physical milestones a bit early w/encouragement
so now some pics:

He must have read what i said yesterday about being an easy baby... b/c he was such a brat yesterday LOL he would NOT sleep all day... DH actually kicked me out of the house to get away for a bit and i went to walmart... i was gone no more than an hour and apparently he cried the whole time.
he was off and on the boob all day and until about 11pm... then he FINALLY crashed thanks to me busting out a swaddle i got at the shower. he just never stops moving an inevitably if he's not swaddled he wakes himself up.... and yesterday he was busting out of his blankies so drastic measures were called for.
he ended up sleeping from like 1130-3 then 3-6, then 6-9:30... it was great!
this morning he's up and i can tell he could use a nap but once again he's kicking and punchin around and falling asleep then slappin himself and waking up...
maybe it'll get easier when he has more control over his limbs?? cuz i don't want to keep him swaddled most of the day!

aww sweet little man!! He is precious!
Luke still wakes himself up moving. His hands are always moving when he is trying to fall asleep and they gravitate towards his binky and once that is out he is awake...sometimes if I am really tired I will sit there and hold his hand till he falls asleep just so he wont pull out his binky!

yeah i just spent 30 mins w/him napping in my arms (no complaints!) to hold him snug enough to keep him asleep... it LOOKS like he's out buuut he may decide to stretch his lil arms n legs n wake himself up again...

I agree, he has such a beautiful face!! The girls are still that way, waking themselves up with their hands. We kept them swaddled at night up until a few weeks ago even!! They rub their faces when going to sleep and I also hold their hands a lot to get them to settle. It sucks at 10 months of age. LOL
And little Alex already sleeps better than my girls so YAY for that!!! :)

Today is his 2-week birthday!!
it's been a rough day tho, he's been on my boob and refusing to nap from like 2 til around 6 when DH FINALLY lulled him to sleep... i hope it's just a growth spurt or fussy day and not a pattern

He's so cute! Congrats again and I can't wait to watch him as he grows! We had the same prob with my niece - waking herself up while moving - we swaddled her up good and tight haha and it always worked. We even bought the next size up for swaddlers so that we could continue to use it til' she was just about 4 months old - she was a fast grower too - but now she's doing ok with not waking herself up as much so maybe its just a phase? :)

well we had our first pedi appt today... he's up 1lb from birth weight so 8lbs 4 oz... he's gonna turn into a chunker soon i can feel it....
he had a rough night last night and woke up at 4am (on his normal 3-hour feed schedule) but refused to go back to sleep til 615 when i needed to be up around 730 to get us to the pedi by 9ish...
on the brite side, i got into my pre-preg fat jeans today! i weighed myself a few days ago and i'm down to 124 and i started at 117, but i gotta ditch the excess flab from my tummy to fit into my old pants. i want to start walking but DH doesn't want me taking alex outside b/c its too bright and will burn his retinas or somethin like that,,, i may try to bring it up again b/c i think things would be a lot nicer if i could get out!

I'm surprised today was just now your first appointment. We had to make our appointment before we could be released from the hospital and it had to be within 2 days of being released. So we left on Friday and her appointment was Monday. So odd how there are different requirements based on the hospital.

Annika does that middle of the night thing too sometimes. It's usually not too bad, especially when I can lay her down in her crib and she coos herself back to sleep. It's tiring though when she needs to be held especially at 2am.

it's hard to believe he's 3 weeks old... He weighed in at 8lbs 12 oz today so he's gaining at the right pace which is great!
he's been REALLY fussy lately and i mostly attribute that to his not taking naps during the day... i usually can only get him to take 2 good naps a day, no matter how hard i try... today he's taken a half hour nap around 11, a 1hr nap at 1, and right now he's almost at 2 hrs into a nap.
He also has started this new "trick" where he **** near pulls my nipple off while feeding which has lead to my healed nips feeling REALLY sore again. One of which has developed a fissure and the lactation consultation recommended some ointment for it which i have to pick up... she thinks i have a forceful letdown which means sometimes the milk just comes out too quick for Alex to swallow so by clamping down he can slow the flow... and as he gets bigger he'll be able to handle it better and probably grow out of this... but in the mean time i just need to recline back if in cradle hold or use the side lay (which is what we do during night feedings and how he ends up sleeping in bed w/me most nights)
which reminds me my hospital's new mommy group is so great! Every monday i get to hang out w/other mommies n their babies and it's run by a lactation consultant and a child development specialist so they can answer most any questions...
We've also taken him out in public twice now... we went to a resturaunt yesterday and he did pretty darn good... slept most of the time and when he did wake up i was able to just put him on my chest n bounce him back to sleep while DH finished his food then we traded (best part was DH got the diaper change :lafhard:)
So w/o further adieu here are some pics!

I can't believe how well he holds his head up already :) Norah is so floppy haha she will do it for at most 3-4 seconds before she slams her head back on my shoulder/chest.
I just realized we were due 11 days apart and Alex and Norah are 11 days apart now :) So we both delivered on the same day of our pregnancy... if that makes sense? If not I blame it on the lack of sleep last night :)

SO i typed up this HUGE post and somehow my computer thought the back arrow should mean back a page and it's all gone :(
Alex is growing and changing almost daily... he's currently 8lbs 15.6 oz
The biggest issue we're working on right now is his near refusal to sleep during the day... which leads to him being pretty fussy in the early evenings. I won't complain to much b/c at night he usually sleeps from 8-10:30, 11 til 1:30 or 2... then 2:30 til 4:30 or 5... after 5 he usually just sleeps in 1-1.5 hr increments until we get out of bed at 8:30 or 9
I'd love to get a full nights sleep... i really miss that BUT i think even more i miss being able to just go out for a meal and eat whatever i want and take my time. Now meals consist of me thinking "ok whats gonna taste the worst cold/re-heated... eat that first quickly then get to the rest"
This past weekend we took him to a friends house about an hour away... we were pretty nervous b/c he cries A LOT in the car but w/me in the backseat to soothe him, he did alright. Slept most of the way there and didn't get really back til we were about 15 mins away from home on the way back. I hope he starts to get better about car rides, especially if he comes w/me to school each week since thats about 2hrs each way...

Alex is smiling more and more these days... it's so rewarding, especially on days where he screams the second i put him down!
that's his newest thing... he needs to be in my arms most of the time when awake or he starts crying and then screaming... if i try to put him down during nap time, he wakes up and screams w/in a few moments unless i hold him for like an hour first... which sucks b/c then i get 30mins to an hour to do whatever i need to... and when he's only napping 1-2x's day thats a TOTAL of 2 hrs to do whatever i need to do during the day...
i managed to get him down in his rock n play a lil while ago after 3 failed attempts at naps where i put him down prematurely...
i am TRYING to always put him down so he doesn't NEED me to sleep but sometimes HE needs to just sleep so i suck it up...
and speak of the devil, he's waking up now...

So alex has been asleep since about 5:30! So i will try to update before he wakes up
i got a lot done while he was sleeping.... including trying on my jeans and seeing if any fit now (i did this around 2 weeks PP so i figured i'd try again)... nothing really fits yet and it's b/c my hips are wider and all my pants are low rise, sit on the hip, so i can get them on... just not buttoned!
He's getting a lot better about naps now! I can reliably get him down for 1-2 hr nap and a few 30 min naps throughout the day...
Also i THINK he's starting to giggle.. it's not a full on laugh but a gasp like happy noise so i'm thinking laughing will soon follow...
rut roh he's starting to stir....
DH was REALLY getting on my nerves til last night... he's really good about telling ME what to do and what not to do w/him but rarely pitches in or when he takes him, i get him back pretty shortly after he starts crying w/"he wants the boob"
Friday night something clicked and he finally held alex in a soothing way to the point where when he handed him back to me so i could feed him, alex cried.... usually it's crying until he gets handed to mommy n then it immediately stops. Hopefully this keeps up!
Alex is still HATING car rides... he screams the WHOLE time and chokes n coughs n does the stops breathing cry... i've been trying to take him out a few times a week and we always go somewhere on weekends so he'll get used to it but it's gotten NO BETTER. I added a mirror w/a britely colored monkey, i sit in the back w/him when DH drives... nothing helps! We've had to cancel plans to visit my family so they could meet him b/c i couldn't handle 4 hrs of that kinda sadness w/my baby...
i'm really hoping it's a phase but since there's been NO improvement in 8 weeks idk if i should hold my breath
Awww I'm sorry he hates car rides! Katie always has and still does. She screams when I put her in her carseat even still at almost 9 mos old. I always have someone riding with her in the back. I can't ride with her though because she has ulterior motives if I'M with her. My mom or cousin can ride with her though and it usually helps. God help us though if we get stuck in the car all day. She's getting a lot better, but it was really bad in the beginning. She cried for an hour straight when it was just me and her and it broke my heart. :(
Good luck. I hope he starts liking his carseat!

I know I've said this before, but I love how close in age our LOs are because it is fun seeing the similarities and differences in development. I just posted about Norah getting ready to start laughing and then come here and read almost the same thing about Alex :) Love it!
I'm sorry he doesn't like car rides :( That's tough, I hope he at least starts tolerating them a bit more here soon.
I so glad he is starting to nap better for you. I saw the cute picture you posted today on FB and my first thought was, "Yay! He's sleeping and it isn't on Nicole" :) As much fun as they are to cuddle with it is nice to be able to get up and move around and get some stuff done while they are napping.
What an awesome change with DH! I hope he keeps it up and is forming an awesome daddy/son bond with him now. Seeing that he can sooth him hopefully will make him more willing to keep trying.

I didn't know where to post this but I've been thinking... is my wanting him with me at school selfish? Since he hates the car, is it more for my own sanity to bring him 2 hrs one way so he can spend time w/me... if he stays here then i'll be away from 7am til around 9pm... it would KILL me to do that (not to mention it would require me to start building up a SERIOUS stash of boobie milk otherwise we'll have supplement with formula which would ALSO kill me)... and i say to myself, it'll be hard on him to be away from me that long but really WOULD it?
Right now when DH watches him he'll cry for the majority of the time I'm gone... how's he gonna handle a stranger... at least in Keene, he won't be away from me for more than 2.5 hrs, ya know?
IDK what to do... we're planning on interviewing 2 ppl in keene so I'll see how he handles the drive but i know it's going to be a lot of crying... and i'll justify to myself that he'll get used to it but what if he DOESN'T...
This is one of the hardest decisions I've EVER had to make... so any feedback/help talking it out would be greatly appreciated

I know I'm not a mom, but I think I would try to find someone in Keene. That way you can still have bonding moments and when he's older, he may have a better time leaving you when he knows your coming back so soon. I would chose Keene just so you can see your little man and help you get through the day. Even if you think that's selfish, I think your positive mood will transfer to him.
And if he really is having a hard time driving, then you can always re-interview someone in your hometown. No worries. :)

I like the idea of Keene too, so that you are close by at all times. My only concern would be someone else driving him, and sleeping on someone else's mattress. If you can find confidence in that, I would do it. !4 hours is a long time for him to be on the bottle and away from mommy.

well when he's bein sat, i'm gonna give them his rock n play sleeper... no mattress at someone elses house... and POSSIBLY bring his pack n play which is still in the box so someone may as well get some use out of it :coolblue:

That is good. I'm not a mom, but that would worry me! I think you have to do what's best for you, and in turn, it will be best for Mr. Alex. He just may not agree with that for awhile :lafhard:

Alright, time for an update...
Alex went for his 2 month checkup today (the doc's been on vacay for 2 weeks so it's a lil late) and he's growing perfectly... he's 11lbs 10oz and 23 inches... He also got 3 shots and screamed so loud, i know it was worse for me than him but he definitely was in pain. I gave him some tylenol when we got home and it helped for awhile, i even got a couple lil laughs out of him but i think its wearing off b/c he's back to being uber fussy, wanting boob, not wanting boob, hold me, don't hold me, etc.
so he's chillin in his swing asleep, having a happy dream apparently b/c he just smiled n laughed in his sleep...
He's gotten a lot more chill in the past week or two, which is nice... BUT he still cries when i leave him for DH for long periods-- tho in Alex's defense, i only leave him w/DH after 5pm which is when fussy time starts regardless...
Despite always being a good night sleeper, he's gotten even better lately... he sleeps 4 hrs at a minimum for his first stretch but has been averaging more and more 5 and 6 hour stretches... after the initial stretch he tends to only go 2 hrs unless he's REALLY tired. He's also gone from sleeping in til 9:30 w/me to getting up at 7:30-8:00 but when he's up early its usually b/c he's gone longer between wakings
As for the car ride dilema- we took him into boston last weekend and the way down he did pretty good... he only cried 15-20 mins of the hour long drive and we hung out w/friends from around 1pm til about 8:30... we wanted to wait til he was tired and would sleep the whole way home... well that worked for the first half of the ride but the last half was MISERABLE... he screamed the whole. dang. time. I felt sooo bad for not stopping but that would have made it worse... I even tried to slip my bewb in his mouth while DH was driving (don't try it-- it's impossible!). But on the bright side, he's a lot better at short distance driving so we're not stuck at home all the time :)
Anywhoo that's enough blabbing, here's some pics for sans facebook ppls:

So cute! I am jealous. Lily was NOT liking Santa! And then Santa made it awkward and made both me and my mom sit on his lap and asked us to sit farther back on his leg. :snide: Nothing like a creep Santa to totally ruin what child-like Christmas spirit you had.

Haven't had a OW update in forever! How's everything going? Are you having a bday party? I can't believe they are almost one already!

yeah it kinda died out so i figured ppl could read on FB if they wanted
Things are going well... we're still not really sleeping... He wakes up like 3x's/night on average and is usually only in his crib til like 12-1am... b/c i'm just so tired i can't deal and just pull him into bed when he wakes up
Alex has been full on walking for about 2 weeks now... in fact he now prefers to be walking instead of crawling or being carried so we had to get him shoes for when we're out in public (don't want him stepping on something groossss)
We're having a birthday party for him but its memorial day weekend (his bday falls on memorial day this year) so i'm not sure whose actually gonna COME. I'm kinda expecting friends will have other plans for the holiday weekend and our families live so far away (mine 4 hrs, his 8) that i'm thinking it's just gonna be my immediate family, and a couple of friends and family members that have already said they were likely gonna come and thats it... kinda makes me sad but i guess that's what happens when you live far away from family.

Sorry to hear you're not sleeping much! :( I guess I was sort of in a delusion that after like 8-9 months, they start sleeping through the night. Guess that's not true. :ooh: I hope it gets better for you soon though!
Yay for walking! :D That stinks that his birthday falls on the holiday weekend. Nate wants Makayna to be born on the 4th of July, but from a birthday party standpoint, that would probably suck because everyone has plans for the holidays. We're in the same position with the distance (except further! LOL!) I'm sorry the party will be small, but as long as Alex gets cake, I don't think he'll care too much! ;)

i forget the exact percentage but it's more than half maybe something like 80% of babies DON'T STTN til after 1 yrs old and 50% until after 2 yrs old. (i could be off but it's in that realm)... Somehow we've trained ourselves to BELIEVE babies should be able to but if you actually look at the biology/evolution/science of it all, it's really in their best interest to wake frequently and desire to be near their mother... that helps me feel A LITTLE better but it still sucks.
I've gone back and forth about doing CIO but i think i'm still against it b/c i don't want to train alex that sometimes when he cries, i won't be there to meet his needs... Plus i know he can go up to 45 mins straight cryin in the backseat of the car before falling asleep soo yeah
I am sorry to report this to you but Jack is 2 and still doesn't STTN! HE usually wakes up maybe once...wants to be rocked and then he sleeps until 7ish. But its at random when he does wake up during the night...sometime 1-2am other times its 3-4am. I am a walking zombie most days.

Good Job Alex on walking! Norah pulls herself up on everything but doesn't even want to let go to stand on her own :) So crazy that he is walking.
Norah doesn't sleep through the night either. Every once in a while she has a night of 6-7 hours of sleep but that's rare. She used to STTN until she was about 4 months old... we were spoiled by it lol
Glad to hear he is doing well :)
