For those with older babies, when did you introduce finger foods and what foods did you use?

Gosh, I can't remember exactly when, but probably around 7 months we started giving Ollie Baby Mum Mums. They're little rice crackers that dissolve when he eats them, but they teach him to bite and chew. Then, from there we moved onto mushy green beans from a can, those little Graduates puff snacks, bananas...
Yeah we probably started around 7 months or so. Avocado, butternut squash, sweet potato, bananas, and the packaged puff things were the first few things that we did. Then we moved to things like green beans, pasta, peas, carrots, etc. It all seems so long ago!

We tried a few things just before 7 months, but he had trouble and gagged a lot, which freaked us out so we didn't try again until closer to 8 months. We also did a lot of the gerber graduate things, especially the cheese puffs, baby mum mums, and toast (toasting the bread keeps it from forming dough balls and makes it easier to eat). Part of the issue we have had is that he still doesn't have a great pincer grasp, so he doesn't feed himself small things that well, or sloppery things, like fruit. He does better with strips of bread, or big pieces of things he put in his fist and take bites of.
That reminds me of something...when Paisley was still developing her pincer grisp, tossing anything slippery (like banana or avocado) in flax meal or wheat germ was a life saver for us.

The girls have been eating Mum Mums for about a month now but I'm too nervous to try anything else!

I looked at the grocery the other day and didn't see mum mums, maybe I am just missing them. They seem to like the Gerber puffs, they can't pick them up themselves though since they are so small.
I think I am going to get some soft cheese and some whole wheat bread (I will toast it) for them to try, next time I am at the grocery.

I obviously don't have kids, but I know that cheese was a tough one for my nephew because of the consistency when he started eating it and it got mushy.

Mum-mums are the best! I found them in the baby section at Wal-mart, but usually they are by all the jarred food.
We also did green beans, pasta, hot dog slices cut up into quarters, cheese, and bananas. Brant still LOVES bananas!
I think we started around the 6 or 7 month for finger foods.
