Amber wants me to join a dating service online. I know a lot of us have met our significant others online. I just wanted to find out what everyone thought of this subject. Let us know. :D

I absolutely can't do it. No way. Nothing against others who have done it, but it just gives me the creeps to even think about doing it. With my luck, I'd get myself killed. lol :D

I don't think I'd feel comfortable putting myself out there like that. I'd rather meet people the old fashioned way. But I've known people that have done the whole online dating thing ... none that have ended in long term relationships or marriage though ;)

My sister met her FH in a chat room ... then she told everyone they met at a gas station :p

I voted no just because there are so many people out there that you can meet face to face.. and it's probably safer.

Hopefully I won't ever have to worry about dating again. (knock on wood). But, I don't see an issue with it. I mean, obviously you want to take precautions with it. You can meet a psychopath in the locel bar just as easily as on line. If they are that type of person they will be able to hide it well whether in person or online.

I voted no on this becasue I am big on going out and having a good time. So, if I were single that is how I would find dates....I know if I let myself sit at home and cyber date I would use it as a crutch and never leave the house. But for my mom she is never ever going to try and find dates so why not stay at home and cyber date.

I voted yes. Lacey said it best I was a single mom when I met Nicholas in a quiz chat room. My family used to b*tch about how much time I spent on the PC but I was at home with my kids and not leaving them with a sitter and out at a bar some where. The PC was my oulet the the out side world when my kids were little. I met the man that makes me happier then I have ever dreamed. So if I had to do it all over again then yes I see no harm in it. I would have never met Nicholas if it was not for the computer. And I thank God every day for him.

Karen,

As you know I met Jerry through an online dating service. I am happy I did. As for the fear of doing it................you could well meet a psycopath anywhere you go. I was from a very small town and all of the men left were either married, divorced and not worth having or into drugs or alcohol. I didn't like to hang out or even go to bars and quite honestly did not know how to meet men anymore at my age. I just decided one day to give it a try. I had worked at a local liquor store and naturally talked to various customers and was amazed to find that a lot of them met their husbands this way. I also had a cousin who met her husband online. I dated about 5 men from this service and only one of them I ended up never seeing again. The others I still remain friends with. The great thing to me about this is that you really get to know someone without physically having to see them first. You spend hours talking and getting to know one another. You don't have to get dressed up or even fix up for that matter. I was more relaxed and really had fun with it. At first I was embarrassed to tell my family about it. But after a while I did. If I had met any of these men out in the public I would still have taken the same precautions when meeting them again. you never really know a person regardless of where you do meet them. But if you talk online for several weeks you can learn to tell more about them. Both of you are more relaxed. Jerry and I talked for several weeks before meeting. Then both of us decided to meet in a public place, my family knew where and how long and we went from there. I made myself stick to a list of ground rules before ever talking with anyone. I gave out no personal information. I also filled out the questionaires with great care and when looking them over if there was one single thing I didn't like about them I didn't answer one at all. I say it is worth taking a chance with. After all you never know what and who you might be missing out on. :D

Nope I would never join one. I don't like them at all...You never know what you are really getting.

I hope I am not in a postition to be dating, but if I were I would probably try it. Like others have said, psychos are everywhere and as long as you are careful I see no harm in it. Also, unless they are super sick or twisted, I would imagine most would give up if you were chatting online for weeks getting to know each other. I would think most people with ill intentions would just want a quick, easy mark. Or they would slip up ever so slightly so that you would be able to weed them out.

As a matter of fact, that's how Matt and I met. We met on Lavalife. I have met two people off of it. Matthew is of course the last!! lol. Both men were/are nice guys but the first one didn't work out because he didn't want a relationship and Matthew, well he is/was the best thing that happened to me, we chatted on the net, then on the phone and then we met. I knew his best friend without knowing him and since I knew Brennan and knew he was a great person I thought there was little chance that Matt would be a axe murdered. I definately took my chances.

I would do it if I were ever in the single position again.

Well said!!! it is true, the ones not really looking for anything lasting do leave conversations very early on. At least this was my experience. And yes, they do screw up and you are able to weed them out. I had a 3 strike your out rule. Which continued even after we met and dated. In fact it continued with Jerry up until we married. :D
