Since Carrie and Lacey brought this subject up, how do you feel about tats? :D Please respect other's opinions.

I am all for tattoos, I have 7 and I want many more. But I know lots of people (some of my friends and family too) that don't like them and I respect that ... to each their own ;)

Honestly speaking, I don't like them at all. My Dad had them all up and down his arms, and he always wished he hadn't gotten them. He is the one who turned me off on tattoos. He begged us kids not to get any.

I personally don't like them. I don't want one. I never have. But if it is something that you are into, go for it. Just really take your time deciding about it. You can't erase it when you are tired of it.

I can totally respect that and I still love ya ;) So what would you think or say to your kids if they got them?

I agree here! All of my tattoos mean something to me on some level. My brother has alot of tattoos that he got just for the heck of it. I am gonna laugh at him when he regrets them one day.

I don't mind most tattoos. Some i really hate. Rude or ugly things. I would only get a tattoo to represent somthing very special to me. I'm thinking one day i will get a bear on my back then a little bear to represent each of my children.

I said I am impartial. I don't currently have any tattoos but I would like to get one. DH has a "home done" tattoo on his forearm which I hate... It's crappy and I would like for him to get it redone.
I love tattoos when they are tastefully done.

Yah, I want mine to fit a theme, so I'm going to try and have artists that specialise in this kind of work do the tattoos. I want to stick to flowers, birds, symbols and fish in a vintage theme. I don't want a dozen tattoos that don't go together.

Both of my kids have them. Amber has a Leo sign in the small of her back, and Malachi has "Soldier of God" in bold roman lettering across his shoulder blades, and "Karen Denise" (my name) in cursive on his top left chest. I don't like any of them, but that was their choice. :)

If I was to get one, it would probably be a memorial to my Father. But he would be mad at me for it, so I probably will never get one. :)

I thought this might fit in. It was on the AOL Business Section that I was just reading. It is about having them removed.

Well I am not getting tattoos just to 'sample the trade' and one day have them removed. As I said before, all my tattoos mean something or represent something to me and I put much thought into them. And like the article said, "We tell our patients it's a lot more expensive removing them than having them put on."
My tattoos are a part of me and they aren't going anywhere. And as for the ever popular comment "What are you going to do when you're old" Well, I will be proud to tell my stories to anyone who would want to hear them :bbmrgreen:

I work at a hospital, and there is definitely a stigma against them there. If you have them on your arms, you always have to wear long sleeve shirts. We live in Phoenix Arizona, and no one wants to wear long sleeve shirts all day at work. Most people don't have them that work at the hospital. You also can't have any piercings at my work either, because at the hospital, they are considered unsanitary for the patients. My advice would be, if you really want to have a career at a hospital, don't get any tattoos or piercings. :)

I know Sean's company frowns on them. Or course there everyone wears a suit anyway so you would have to have some pretty extreme tatoos on your hands, neck, chest, or face for them to show. But, I know that if you did walk in with one, you probably wouldn't get past the first interview. They have a lot of more conservative and religious clients. I teach and I know for a fact that no one is allowed to have any showing either. I know several of the male teachers have them on their arms but usually a dress shirt covers them. Several of the women have them but they are in areas that aren't usually reveals (back, ankle, shoulder)
I also agree with the article that there is a double standard when it comes to gender. A lot of people feel that a tattoo is just something that guy does when he gets really drunk or joins the service. But on women, people are less forgiving with them. Many people do look down on a woman or think less of her reputation if she has a visible tattoo. Which, isn't fair. If it is fine for a guy to get one, it is fine for a woman too.

I started getting tattoos at 18 and when I worked around the public I have had to cover them. I've only started getting piercings over the last 5 yrs, and I've removed them for jobs too.
Funny, I've had people know me from work and then find out and say You have tattoos and piercings?! I just laugh :bblol: But I kind of like to surprise people.
Now that I work for myself and I am not around the public as much, I am free to express myself however I see fit :bbmrgreen:
But I agree that young people should put alot of thought into getting tattoos. Not just about what to get and where, but about their career goals and how tattoos will affect them. I do hate it that society still judges people like that  but what can you do :bbconfused:

Since you work from home, you will always be able to do tats and piercings without any repercussions to your career. That's perfect for you!!! :bbmrgreen:

I wish I could add to your Rep again, I just wanted to say :bbmrgreen: this is one of the reasons I wanted to work for myself, so I wouldn't have to worry so much about what ppl think of me. They will have to judge me by how I deal with them and what I can do for them, not by how I look :bbmrgreen:

And when people only know you by the internet and phone, they see you by your personality or voice and not your physical self. Sometimes, I have an image of people by their voice, and when I finally get to meet them, they don't look anything like their voice. lol
Ok, don't take what I'm about to say bad, Brandi, but I totally agree with the people you were talking about. By your articulate posts, I would have never thought you would be the type of person to have lots of tattoos. Not that I know what a person with lots of tattoos is like, it's just society telling me what a person with lots of tattoos is like. I hate how that sounds, but I'm not trying to say anything mean to you. I am trying to agree with what you said about the people who meet you. Does that make sense?

I have a small heart on my chest. Who am I kidding, it's on my boob. Usually it's totally covered, but I have found in some of the dresses I try on if I move around a lot you can see it! I dont mind that I have it but I personally dont want it to show in the pictures. It's just not the look I am going for. But other then that, I LOVE tattoos. As long as they arent gang related or not well done. I have 5!

I couldn't get anything on my boob cause I'd be weirded out by having someone else touch it  :p Plus I don't need anything to draw attention to my barely B's ;)

And isn't that a really tender area? Wouldn't that be a very painful tat to get? *shudder*

It is my understanding from friends that the fleshier the area the less pain that it causes. It also depends on the nerve concentrations. My friends who have tattoos have said that the foot/toe and base of the spine and neck are the most painful.

I would tend to agree for the most part. None of my tattoos were pleasant, but some were more painful than others. The largest one that covers the upper part of my back was the worst. The one on my calf was second, the one on my lower back was third most painful.
The other 4 are all pretty small so they weren't too bad. I am worried that I won't be able to handle the sleeves I want on my arms, so I think I might go with partial sleeves ;)

I don't care for them. I think the ink looks way too dark on the skin. I do know that people who have them usually love them and that is fine for them.

I don't have any. I have thought about it before, and really like the way some of them look, but really just can't do it. The idea is really interesting in theory, and I have been tempted, just can't actually been able to follow through with it. Don't think I ever will be able to either.

I am impartial. To each his own. But not for me. I have seen to many older people in nursing homes with them and I cannot imagine anyone doing that on purpose. they are not a very pretty site when you are older and sagging.
