I have to admit that when there are a lot of them, it really turns me off. But if it's tastefully done, I don't have a problem with it. :D

Body piercings just don't do it for me. I'm not into tattoos either. I have one hold in each ear. That is as far as I am going to go.

But, if it is something that you are into and like, than I feel that you should go for it. My students always tell me they want a tattoo. Most of them are in the 16-18 age group. I always tell them to pick out the design that you want and then wait until you are 21. If you still want it then and are in love with it as much as you are now, you have my blessing. Modifying your body isn't something to be done on a lark.

I think alot of peircings are kinda gross. The only thing i can really tolerate are ears (and NO extractions), an eyebrow, and maybe a little nose stud because you hardly can see it.
Peircing nipples or other genitals REALLY freak me out. And random peircings of freshy parts are gross as well.
There are going to be a large amount of elderly people later on who have lots of funny scars from old peircings. I can't even imagine what it will look like when the extractions from peoples earlobes are older.

I don't know about a turn on but I think some piercings are cool and interesting to look at. But they don't do anything for me in 'that' way if you KWIM ;)

Me, I have my nostril pierced, my tongue, and 3 holes in each ear (2 of which are 8 gage) I don't think I will be getting anymore. DH doesn't have any tattoos or piercings, he is a big wimp ;) He just has long hair and wild sideburns, he is good at growing hair ;)

I don't think piercings on guys are attractive at all, not even a regular sized one in the ear. I have my ears pierced (just one hole in each ear) and my navel, I love my navel piercing and no one except my DH has to see it.

Tatoos ... I don't like them. Won't ever do it. Don't want to see my man with one. My thoughts are that someday that tat is going to look just awful on the arm, leg, back, butt & whatever of a 80 year old!

IMHO nothing ruins the look of a nice wedding gown or formal evening dress, than seeing a tat. I don't feel they are feminine at all.

All that said, I am absolutely facinated by the work I have seen on the show Miami Ink (Kat's especially!!!!). If someone has to get one, I think they should be as equally good as the tats that are done on the show. There are just too many ugly tats & tramp stamps walking the face of this earth.

Piercings .... I guess I am old fashioned because I only want to see these on a girl and only in the ear. I have three holes in each ear (lower lobes) although I haven't worn three earings in a loooooooooooooong time. I am still waiting for 6 diamonds to fill the holes. This is as far as I go to rebel LOL

My daughter got her belly button pierced. In fact she asked me ahead of time and I brought her to have it done. It took me some time but I have grown to "live with it" and I would have been just as accepting with a tiny diamond in the nostril but then .......

She went and had her tongue pierced! I am so not impressed. I hate it!!!!!! Needless to say, she is well aware of how I feel. The only consolation I have, is that the tongue thing can be removed and the hole will grow in (or so our dentist tells me).

Even as I write this, I can envision my daughter rolling her eyes back in her head and saying with a deep sigh "oh mom, you are so old fashioned!"

Yes, I am - like it or lump it (lol an old fashioned saying), this Mom is not going to change.

Tell her to be careful, I heard that a tongue ring can wear away the enamel on the teeth, esp. if she gets in the habit of clicking it on her teeth.

Amber has had hers since she was 16 years old (she's 25 now), and she has never had a problem with it. She still has it today. She also has a belly button ring too. My son has his eyebrow pierced, and when he takes it out, I can see two little dots. :bbmrgreen:

Elizabeth,

Tell your daughter to be careful. Speaking from experience, I broke a tooth with my tongue ring and I had to have it SURGICALLY removed. THen I had to shell out $4000 to put a tooth back in there, and this happened RIGHT BEFORE our wedding!! I strongly encourage anyone who has or is thinking about getting a tongue ring to really think about it. Is it worth it to have to have such a ghastly dentist bill?? The piercing costs what $80-140 bucks but the damage lasts forever. And let me tell you, having my tooth surgically removed was horriable, I layed awake at night with tears running down my face because I was in such horriable pain!! Then I had to do it all over again 6 months down the road when I had the titanium root SCREWED into my jaw bone and my gum cut away. After six more months it was time for more pain when they had to fit me with a porcelan tooth and then have to cut away more of my gums to fit the tooth in!!! So think about it, is having a tongue ring worth all of that emotional, finacial and physical pain!! I think not! Because I have been through it!!!

As far as the rest of piercings go. I have ten. Five in each ear. And I find that they are sexy on men but in the right spots. I LOVE nipple rings but Matt won't do that..lol...he got a tattoo and that is sexy and more tattoos are cool. I can understand him not wanting to pierce his nipples, that shiznit is painful. I did it when I was 18 and may never be able to breast feed from that breast...my stupidity I tell you!! And the pain, oh my god!! I thought I was going to die.

Anyhow, yes I do think SOME piercings are sexy, but a few are just retarded. Like the big bull ring through the nose, disgusting. Bulls have those for a reason, does that mean I can tie them up with the ring like they do bulls!! lol

It is the peircing that people get under their lip in the spot between the bottom lip and chin.

I noticed a couple of people mentioning problems with a tongue piercing ... I've had mine for about 5 yrs now and haven't had any problems.

I think it has alot to do with the size of the barbell too. The one they pierce you with is longer than the one you should wear after it heals. I knew a girl that never changed the jewelry and had problems and had to take it out all together.

I don't know, I have no problems with mine, and I've even stretched mine ... I had it pierced with a 14 gage, now it is an 8 gage ;) I know one girl who has a 4 gage barbell in hers :bbeek: it is huge, now I think that is a bit much!

But as with many things, piercings are not for everyone. There are many that I find odd and even gross, but I like mine :bbmrgreen:

I had mine changed! But the fact of the matter is that you use your tongue to chew and if you haven't bit down on it yet, you will!! And that's how I broke my tooth and ended up with a $4000 dentist bill. ;)

Personally, I don't see the attraction to a lot of body piercings. I have 2 earrings in each ear and would never consider anything else. And, I really find it unattractive to have many more than that. DH would love for me to get a nose piercing (it's normal in India) but I'm not comfortable with it. Though, small unobtrusive nose rings can be attractive, so long as they're small and unobtrusive!! lol:wink:

I just wanted to add that I had my tongue ring five years before this happened...it's not like I had it for a week or two and then bam I broke a tooth. I had it for quite a while! (i had it pierced at 18 and took it out at 23.)

I have scolded her and warned her but what does Mom know right? I hope in this isn't a case where she will learn from experience.

We had a dentist's appt., she was "trapped in the chair" so I asked the dentist point blank about the association with a tongue bar, worn enamel & chipped or broken teeth. He had a look and also warned her to be careful. He told me that the piercing was done far enough back on the tongue that she shouldn't have any problems, unless she started purposely playing with it against her teeth.

I paid just over $5000 to have braces put on her teeth and they were just removed before her graduation. Her teeth are beautiful and straight. Why she wanted to gamble with that, I don't know. Argh!!!!

I don't really care either way, as long as they don't go overboard with it..

Some are gross, but some are okay. I just have my ears pierced now, but when I was younger I had my tongue and my belly button pierced. At least you can take them out.
