I just got my hair cut to about an inch off my shoulders, and every morning when I wake up, it's sticking out everywhere. Today it's not calming down very well.. I've used water and this Herbal Essence stuff that I have, and that's helped some. Does anyone have any tips for flattening crazy, shorter hair?

LOL I have the opposite problem. I want my hair sticking up everywhere and sometimes it just lies flat. :bbeek:

I have the exact same problem!!!! I donated my hair to locks of love about 5 months ago, and it's just now getting to about an inch above my shoulders, and it flips out and does all kinds of funky stuff!
The reason it's doing that is because you've probably got some shorter layers in there causing it to flip out. Whenever there's shorter hair on top, with longer hair underneath, that's going to happen. The more blunt your cut, the less that will happen (for me, I'm growing out the layers, so I just have to wait until they've all grown out to where I can cut it all off to the shortest layer for that to stop happening). And even if you don't have any shorter layers on top, that can still sometimes happen because that length of hair just does that! LOL!
What you have to do is really take the time to blow dry your hair until it's DRY!!! I know that takes a LONG time, and I usually don't have that kind of time, so my hair ends up doing the flippy outy thing and I just have to deal with it. But if I'm going somewhere important, I make sure that I dry my hair until it's DRY! I also use "Super Skinny Relaxing Balm" by Paul Mitchel. That works really well. Or, try "Straight" by Redkin.
Then, use a flat iron to seal the deal. Make sure you spray it first. Get a good straightening spray (Super Skinny Daily Treatment by Paul Mitchel is good). Blow drying your hair AND flat ironing it everyday is HARD on your hair, so also make sure you have a good shampoo and conditioner, especially if you're prone to dry hair like I am. I use Nexxus Humectress.
Unfortunately, using cheaper products like Herbal Essence aren't going to be as effective. I'm not saying don't use them, but just understand that generally, you get what you pay for. If Herbal Essence isn't working for you, you might go to your salon and start trying some of their higher-quality products. They usually tend to work A LOT better than the cheaper drug store alternatives. :coolblue:

My hair has been 100% better since some girl at The Body Shop told me to use leave-in conditioner for air drying. I don't like to blow-dry my hair because it takes for-ev-er, but if I just put some leave-in conditioner in it and let it air dry, it looks great, especially with a fresh cut. Getting it completely dry looks really nice, too, but I don't do it every day. I use Garnier Fructis leave-in, it's like $3. I got JD hooked, too. :lafhard:

Mine's the same way Heather but I shower every morning so it's not a huge deal for me.....I will put mousse in my hair, blowdry it, spray it with a flat iron spray (I use Rusk) and then flat iron it. Occassionally I'll have the odd piece that is weird or the static can be insane some time.

I forgot to mention that my hair is very layered now, so that's part of why it's so crazy, haha. I usually shower right before bed and go to bed with wet hair, so that really makes it bad... I will have to try the leave in conditioner idea and see if that helps. I've got some Pantene stuff. If that doesn't work, I might try blow drying it before going to bed. Fortunately once my hair starts growing out some it should get better.. it usually does (this cut has been the worst for crazy morning hair though, since I've got a lot of layers).

Yep! Layers will do it every time! LOL! Try the leave-in conditioner idea, and you might also try blow drying your hair in the morning when it's dry. I know that's sometimes not the greatest for your hair, so make sure you use product first, but I find that if I let my hair dry naturally, and then blow dry it, it doesn't take but a minute to get it EXACTLY the way I want it, and it usually stays that way because it's completely dry. Just use a large barrel round brush, and that should work really well for you as well. :)

I have this problem sometimes, but when I do I just flat iron it ;)
I guess I would try the leave in thing ... or wear some sort of hair wrap at night ... or just shower in the morning ;)
:goodluck:

The only thing I've found that works is straightening my hair with a flat iron. I either blow dry it or let it air dry, then straighten it. Its a pain but its worth it to not have crazy hair!
