Hey Maria!! You will have a blast in San Fran! Have you been there before? I didn't read very far into your post, sorry.

I used to live about 35 miles south of there. It's fun.

Nope, I've never been. I can't wait. Mani has friends there, that he went to college with, so we're going to visit, going to be tourists, and just hang out. I'm soo looking forward to being out of NY!!! I've also never been to Ca at all either, so this will be a first.

You will have fun. It's still chilly there (or should I say usually is this time of year). You will still have a nice time. If you get the chance, you should take a mini trip to Lake Tahoe. It's about 2-3 hrs from SF. If the snow isn't bad, it's a great place to see!!!!

Well, needless to say, I've been away for quite a while. Been really busy and only have checked in from time to time, not really posting much.

The trip to San Fran was a lot of fun. Chilly, like you said, Heather, but fun. We went up to Sonoma Valley and did some wine tasting on a few days, and other than that just hung out with our friends who live there. It was a great time.

Since we've been back, it's really just been us trying to figure out what we're going to be doing in June when our lease expires. Looks like TN is out, and now we're thinking of NC. But, we may just stay here in NY. Who really knows.

I'm trying to find time to check in here more often, and hopefully I'll be able to do that. Not this weekend though, as we're off to TN for a few days, just to say we've been.

Now, I'm off to catch up on things I've missed!

Welcome back Maria.
Where in NC are you thinking of moving? There are some WONDERFUL cities here, but some that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. And be forwarned: you'll be considered a Yankee. :D

Right now we're looking into Charlotte as there are a lot of job opportunities for DH there. He's sent out his resume and we've found some nice housing opportunities. What do you know about that area?

Panthers Bride

I like Charlotte. FH were thinking of moving there before his dad passed away. It's also home of the Carolina Panthers, :bbmrgreen: and where we're getting married. Charlotte, is the banking capital of the country, so is fairly metropolitan. They have a rocking downtown area, and their airport is international. Housing is really affordable, and there are lots of good neighborhoods/suburbs - although the bad ones are REALLY bad. Charlotte is only a 2-3 hour drive from the beach, and the same to the mountains. Plus, the weather is pretty mild year round. They don't get snow (although if they did, the city would shut down), but can get ice storms which are nasty. I don't know how into basketball you are, but they also have the Bobcats, which is partially owned by Michael Jordan. I hope this helps.

Thanks!! In terms of housing, we were looking at an area of Concord which is called Riverwalk. The school's (elementary, middle, and high) all have a passing rate for state tests of over 85-90%, and it's mostly new construction. Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, as DH still has to get a job and I still have to apply for my teaching license and find a job.

Welcome back Maria, Glad to hear things are going well and you had a nice time in San Francisco. North Carolina is a wonderful state, I love it there. I know you and Manish would be happy there. Good luck on job/house hunting!

Wow. Long time again.

It looks like we won't be moving to NC after all. DH is in the process of being offered a position in Jacksonville, Florida. We're going down on Thursday night so that on Friday he can meet with HR of the company and iron everything out. It looks almost like a done deal, so... keep your fingers crossed.

We've been in contact with a real estate agent as well, and will be looking at some homes while we're there as well. Hopefully we can find something quickly, close quickly, and can get all moved before we take a trip to India in August.

It's going to be a busy summer! :)

Wow! You will be busy! But it sounds like a new adventure. India, have you ever been before? Is that where Manishs family still lives? That is going to be incredible! Thanks for keeping us updated, glad you guys are doing well!

I've never been to India before. THe last time Manish went was right after we met about 7 years ago. But, I'm looking forward to it.

As for his family.. he's got aunts and uncles who live there. His immediate family all live here still!

I'm definitely looking forward to the trip!

Married life still treating you well?

05-10-2007, 07:52 AM
Well, we're off tonight at 7pm to Jacksonville. I hope that we find that the job offer is great, and that the area is good for us. We're going to look at some houses while we're there, so maybe we'll find something we like to live in as well as getting him a job!!

Married life is going well, Katy. Thanks for asking!! I've got no real complaints at this point. It's getting busy, with trying to figure out a pretty big relocation, finding me a new job (not so easy when school is in session there while I'll be in India! hehe), and planning a trip to India as well. But, we're handling it and looking forward to the changes. It should be an interesting summer!! :)

Good luck with the job for Manish in jackonsville, I am sure that would be an adventure in itself. :) Let us know how it goes.
I am glad to hear that married life is treating you guys so well, so nice to hear. You guys are such a rounded couple and I hope that Nick and i are as happy as you guys are and all the married ladies on this board are. :)

Good luck and enjoy your busy summer to come.

Well, the trip to Florida went well. We got an offer for DH's future job today. It's conditional, meaning that they still have to do that background check and the drug test and all. But since that won't be a problem, it looks as though we'll be moving in a month and a half or so. I'm looking forward to the new place, and getting some real alone time with DH! :)

Did you find anything promising while you were down there for a house? It sounds like things are coming together for you.

mariaandmanish
05-14-2007, 08:12 PM
We found some possibles. We need to see msome more, and decide if we're really looking to buy right away, or if we want to lease for a little while, figure out if we really like the neighborhood and then buy. But, we definitely found 2 that we would consider!!

mariaandmanish
05-21-2007, 10:48 AM
Thanks for the good wishes, ladies. We've made some decisions about the move. We've decided that we're going to lease the house we liked for 6-8 months, and decide if we like it enough to purchase. If not, we'll continue looking for a new house while we're actually living there and then buy. I like this idea because I know we won't have to be "settling" for a home, since we'll really be able to figure out the area, our budget, and what we really want in a home.

Other than that, just working on updating my resume, applying for licensing in Fl, and writing my resignation letter for my current job.

NicksBride
05-21-2007, 10:50 AM
What a great idea. You do not want to be tied down with a house just because you had to. Glad you could find something you both liked. One less thing to worry about. :)

Florida from NY! That is going to be a big change! Is it fairly easy to get licensed in Florida with your NY license? I have heard to get a license in Texas from some states you have to take our tests first. Do you have to do that in Florida?

mariaandmanish
06-11-2007, 08:20 PM
Sorry it took me so long to answer, Kacy. No, in Florida you don't have to take any tests. If anyone comes to NY, you have to take our tests, too, so I know what you're talking about. Luckily, I don't have to do any of that.

Anyway, as I'm sure you can imagine, things are crazy around here right now. We've basically been trying to figure things out, which we've finally done. We have leased a home for a year, near where we were originally looking into. I've applied for my license and for jobs in the district I'll be living in. We've been packing every day for the past two weeks. And time is almost up. DH is picking up the Uhaul tomorrow afternoon. THen basically all day Wed he and a friend of ours are going to fill it up. He, his brother, and the friend, are leaving bright and early on Thursday morning.

Then, I have another 2 weeks or so, and then I'll be leaving. In the meantime, I'm not going to be able to be checking in here for a bit, as I won't have internet connection. I hope everyone has a good frew weeks, and will check in with you all soon!

Hey there!!

Things are going well. We're all moved. Loving it. It's hot, and somewhat humid, but not much different there than in NY. It rains once a day or so, but otherwise is bright and sunny. Let's just say I don't leave the house without my sunglasses, or umbrella! LOL

Other than that, just before I left to come to Fl, I finally got our wedding albums and pictures. I'll share in a few days. I'm really just around here, trying to get the house unpacked and settled. It's amazing how long it takes.

Days coming soon for the new baby, hey, Gwen! Excited much?!

Glad to hear eveythign is going good and you like it there. I am very exciting to have this baby. I am done with being pregnant. I am done work as of yesterday. I hate wasting my leave when I dont have the baby yet. But I guess 10 or 11 weeks will be enough with the little one. I only plan on going back part time any way.

How long did it take you to learn the ettiquette for your wedding?

mariaandmanish
07-09-2007, 02:46 PM
Thanks Amanda!!

It was really pretty easy. For all the stuff we needed to get for the ceremony, my SiL had talked to the pundit (priest) and got a list, so we went out to Jackson Heights, Queens and Edison, NJ and bought it all. The ceremony stuff was learned by simply listening to the pundit during the ceremony. And I'd known about the red for years, so.. all in all, it was close to planning a traditional american wedding, for me, I think. Thankfully!

His immediate family are all in the states, basically NY and NJ. Then he's got extended family in Canada and England. The bulk of the extended family lives in India still. That's one of the reasons we're going to India in August... so I can meet those that I haven't yet. :)
