K ladies, I am going into court on Thurs w Josh for custody of his kids. The judge has never seen me, and I want to make a VERY good impression on her, as she doesn't really care for his ex already.
I bought a charcoal suit (jacket and skirt)today, but it is a bit old lady-ish (hope no one takes offense to that). I am not used to dressing like that anymore, and don't know if that would be too much or not. Josh is wearing slacks, a dress shirt, and a tie. Will what I bought be appropriate?
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Heather, I don't think it is too much at all. I have spent some time in court rooms and you can't really dress up too much, trust me. I think that is a nice choice you made and it will be fine. I always hated going to court for the things I had to wear. They just weren't me.

I believe that it will be fine!!! I do think that you need to feel comfortable too though!!! Maybe you could wear a cute top underneath...I used to wear suits to work quite often and I would pair mine with colorful shirts or lacy tops to add some femininity and youthfulness to it. I am sure that you will look great!!!

I was thinking of finding a lacey top too, I just wasn't sure. The suit is just a tiny bit big, but it's the only one I could find w sleeves that were long enough. I have to find shoes too. Will black shoes be ok? OR should I find some charcoal ones too? That may be difficult.

I think black shoes will be just fine. Black goes with everything!

You are going into court. You need to look that part. The black shoes as long as they aren't too high or trendy looking should be fine. To wear under the suit I am going to advise a neutral color button down shirt (white, light blue, light pink, nothing to bright or flashy) If you absolutely cannot do the the button down shirt for whatever reason, make sure whatever you pick is conservative. Nothing see though, bright, loud, beaded, sequined, low cut, mid drift baring, ect.

Lacey is correct. Being a legal secretary for several years I have learned that judges take this appearance much more seriously.

Thanks for all the advice ladies. It has def helped. I guess I will keep the suit then, and just find alittle something to go under it. I really want the judge to think that I am reputable.
