The other night I was flipping channels and ran across one of my favorite movies, Casablanca. Seeing it I remembered just how much I LOVE that movie. It is so romantic.

Anyway, I was thinking that I would love to capture that romance and adventure. Our recpetion venue is a beautiful old ball room with deep red carpets and high back leather chairs that I was going to cover since the red doesn't go with my pink and black. But now I am thinking that I might be able to work with it since it has that very vintage 1940's feel to it. The club also has a beautiful wood panelled bar with stained glass that we get use as well. There is even a piano in the ballroom. So, any ideas on how I could put together a reception that will transport my wonderful guests to the Cafe American? I was thinking lots of potted palms, Moroccan food (my favorite anyway), old fashioned champagne saucers, maybe a few vintage "signature" drinks, perhaps I could even talk Sean into white dinner jackets. Is there anything that you ladies can think of?

Oh, and by the way, long before I came up with this idea As Time Goes By was slated to be our first dance song.

Got this directly out of the Summer '04 issue of Bride's magazine, the title of the article is "Inspiration: The Movies" --

Casablanca
Setting: Casbah cool - a nightclub with potted palms, fez-wearing waiters, a piano player, and slow-moving ceiling fan

Menu: Moroccan - lamb and beef kabobs, tagine, couscous, honey pastries

Favors: Letters of transit - "official" papers stamped with your monogram

First-Dance Song: "As Time Goes By" (Louis Armstrong version)

Dress code: For the bride, a tailored suit; for the groom, a white dinner jacket - and trnech coat cover-ups, natch.

Watch out for: Propellers

Great idea! I love themes!! I'm working on a Morrocan themed wedding right now. Since it's an outdoor wedding and we are in Arizona among so many palm trees and desert type foliage, it's going to be fun tranforming the backyard into an oasis!

Good luck Lacey, and please let us know how it all turns out!
