My SIL has started looking for a dress for her shower and my wedding since she'll be 7 months along. She's having a terrible time! Anything nice is $100+! She wants to keep it under $50 but wants something other than a "sundress" she can get a Target. Any ideas, ladies? Right now she is considering buying a pattern and having her aunt sew her a dress.

The only place that I could afford when I was pregnant was Target. Ours had a really nice selection though! All of the specialty maternity stores were all so expensive. :bbconfused: I'm sure that there are a lot of sundress styles everywhere right now with stores getting in their Spring apparel. Maybe some of the sales racks will have some nicer formal looking dresses from the winter and Fall left?

Is this her first pregnancy? She might want to wait until she's further along. You really have no idea what the heck you'll fit into (especially those boobs!) by the time you hit 7 months.

She could always do something like this if the two events are close together, https://www.rentmaternitywear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=51_55&products_id=48

$45 to rent that one for 2 weeks $35 for one week.

Thanks ladies!

It is her first pregnancy, so she's holding off but wants some options. She's tiny, but her boobs are definitely growing and she'll have a belly. She's going to talk to her doctor to see if she can give her a size estimate or anything. She doesn't want to wait until last minute for a dress. We'll see! Thanks a ton!!

i love love love motherhood. I have been very lucky, that the ladies in my life love me a great deal, and i have had over 200$ worth of gift certificates given to me for there :) their stuff is nice, and is inexpesive.. and right now, the clearence is buy one get one for 50% so she could get two and probably still stay under 50 bucks.. she could buy now during the sale and return if she had to.

Motherhood was great for dresses, I agree. Old Navy, too, but those are more casual.

For both of my showers, I wore regular dresses that just had an empire waist.

I had two dresses from Target that I loved - and will probably still wear next summer. :) My favorite was a maxi dress that I actually wore to the hospital when Hannah was born. Everything there is way under the $50 budget!

I have to agree with the others. Motherhood has a lot of really cute dresses in the spring summer. I was disappointed since the majority of both of my pregnancies where in the winter and I didn't get to were the cute summer dresses!

Really anything with an empire waist will work for maternity. Over half of my maternity shirts aren't maternity clothes.

I've found a lot of shirts (I think they have dresses too) at Delia's. I just flip through the clearance rack to see what's there.

I just skimmed the responses so forgive me if someone already said this, but I hardly wore anything maternity when I was pregnant. I just bought bigger sizes and empire cut stuff. I bought a really cute empire waist dress for a wedding I went to at 32 weeks pregnant. And I only paid $20, that same dress in a maternity store would have been $60.

Thanks for the advice, ladies! I'll let her know about empire dresses. She wasn't sure how it would work. She doesn't plan on a lot of regular maternity clothes, so she might be able to find an empire dress that works.

Thanks everyone. :flower:

I'd also like to add Kohls to the list. While it's not my favorite store, they always have sales and clearance items and I got a lot of really cheap clothing there!
