How about sunflower seeds, not the kind you eat, but the kind you plant ;)

We gave away little jars of honey with labels that we printed, a ribbon tied around the top, and a little charm hanging fromt he boy that said "thank you".

I love giving away seeds! That's a great idea Brandi! If you have the time, you could get little flower pots and start the seeds so that they're little sprouts and give them away at each place setting.

Here are directions for a basic favor. Use pre-cut favor circles and fill them with candy or potpourri.

Directions:
1. Place all the components of your favors on a table in front of you. It is easier and faster to assemble if everything is within easy reach. Arrange everything in assembly line fashion.
2. Create one perfect favor. Now take it apart, and place all the ingredients where you can see them. This is your sample favor.
3. Pre-cut the ribbon using the sample favor ribbon as your guide.
4. Drop your filler onto the circles in approximately the same amounts as the sample favor.
5. Tie the favors with the ribbon.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h18/chrissgurl2007/wedding_sachets.jpg

Supplies:
Sachet bag with ribbons:

2 pieces 5" x 9" moire or taffeta
1 yd. 1/4" ribbon, peach
1 yd. 1/4" ribbon, mauve
1 yd. 3/8" ribbon, peach
1 yd. 3/8" ribbon, mauve
Small handful stuffing
About 1/4 cup potpourri - purchased or make your own
Needle and thread

Turn top end inside the bag about 2".
Place a small amount of stuffing in bottom of bag. Fill with potpourri and place additional stuffing on top. Close bag tightly and secure with small piece of ribbon.
To make ribbon knotted pompom decoration:

Cut ribbons into 30" lengths.
Make a loose overhand knot 1-1/2" from end of each ribbon.
Make overhand knot 3" from first knot. Continue making knots 3" apart on each ribbon piece.
Stack four ribbons together. Using heavy thread, stitch through ribbon between second and third knots on all four ribbons.
Take a small stitch between each successive pair of knots leaving the last two knots hanging free.
Pull thread to gather knotted ribbons. Secure end of thread.
Attach ribbon pompom to front of bag with a few small stitches. Trim ribbon ends at an angle.
Supplies:
To make triple-stacked set:

Three 7" x 8" pieces silk, moire or taffeta in choice of colors
1 yd. 1/4" wide ribbon, peach
1 yd. 5/8" wide ribbon, mauve
1/2 yd. 1/4" wide ribbon, mauve
1/2 yd. 5/8" wide ribbon, light green
Stuffing
Heavy thread and needle
Directions:

Cut fabric to 4" x 7" rectangles (you will have six pieces).
Sew each rectangle together, right sides together, leaving a small opening for turning.
Turn right side out, stuff each rectangle with a small amount of stuffing and potpourri, and whipstitch each opening closed.
Stack three rectangles together and tie with 1/4" wide peach ribbon.
Directions:
To create ribbon flowers:

Cut 5/8" wide peach ribbon 20" long. With thread, run gathering stitch along one edge of ribbon.
Gather ribbon and stitch ends together. Secure thread.
Cut 1/4" wide mauve ribbon in half. Run gathering stitch along one edge of ribbon. Pull together, secure thread. Make two flowers.
To make leaves, cut green ribbon into three 2-1/2" long pieces. At the midpoint of each piece, fold one side of ribbon to the front at a 60-degree angle, then fold the other side to match. Stitch across both ribbon ends 1/4" below selvage. Draw up stitching and knot the thread.
Arrange finished flowers and leaves on top of stack. When satisfied with arrangement, stitch each in place.
Supplies:
For small circle sachet:

Two 4" circles of moire, silk, or taffeta
1/2 yd. 1" wide ribbon, ivory
1 yd. 3/8" wide ribbon, light green
1/2 yd. 5/8" wide ribbon, mauve
1/2 yd. 1/4" wide ribbon, peach
Small amount of stuffing and potpourri
Heavy thread and needle
Directions:
For small circle sachet:

Place two fabric circles together, right sides together. Machine stitch around, leaving an opening for turning and stuffing.
Turn right side out, lightly fill with stuffing and potpourri.
Hand stitch opening closed.
For flowers on circle sachet:

Cut two 9" lengths ivory ribbon. Run gathering stitch along one edge of each piece. Lightly gather to create an approximate half-circle. Tack one on each side.
Cut mauve ribbon in half. Run gathering stitch along one side of ribbon, every six stitches add a stitch at opposite edge of ribbon (to make petals on flowers). Continue around flower until you have five petals. Secure thread.
With small piece of green ribbon, tie loose knots on top of each other, and glue or stitch to the center of mauve flowers.
For small peach flower, gather ribbon piece on one edge of ribbon and secure.
With remaining green ribbon, tie double loop bow, with two streamers. Tie French knot in each streamer. Tuck bow under flowers and tack or glue. Add a single loop of green ribbon at top, tucked behind the flowers.

Making Favors - Champagne Glass Favor Start with some little plastic champagne glasses and a packet of tulle circles (or cut your own) to make these favors.
Fill them with Jordan almonds, pillow mints or conversation hearts.
Materials needed: Miniature Plastic Champagne Glasses (http://www.save-on-crafts.com/clearplascha.html)
Tulle Circles (http://www.save-on-crafts.com/tulciron.html)
3/16" d/f satin ribbon (http://www.save-on-crafts.com/doubsatfacpi.html)
Jordan almonds
(http://www.save-on-crafts.com/alandmin.html)glue gun (http://www.save-on-crafts.com/glugunandsup.html)

To make the favor above
1. Arrange all your materials on a table.
3. Cut the tulle circle to the center only. Place a few drops of glue under the part of the glass that will hold the almonds.
This will hold the tulle to the glass.
2. Fill the champagne glass with almonds.
4. Have your clothespin handy for the next step. Place the circle around the stem of the glass. Overlap the edges and pull it upward. The glue will hold the tulle in place. Now you can twist the top of the tulle. Grab the clothespin to hold the twist in place.
5. Tie the ribbon tightly around the twisted tulle- tie a bow. Remove your clothespin.

http://wedcraft.com/rocher/nosegay.jpg

Materials:
5-2" Styrofoam balls
50 Ferrero Rocher chocolates
Non toxic craft glue
Toothpicks
10 Popsicle sticks
10 yards Ribbon 1/4" wide
10-4" lace or paper doilies about 4" in diameter
1 bunch Baby's breath, fresh or dried, or other small flower
1 bunch floral greenery for decoration
Instructions:
Cut one Styrofoam ball in half with a serrated knife. Make a 1/2"" hole in the middle of the flat side of the half with a Popsicle stick. This will make it easier to reinsert the Popsicle stick later.
Place the half, flat side down on a work surface. Glue 5 Ferrero Rocher chocolates to each one, using toothpicks inserted into the Styrofoam beneath each chocolate for support until the glue dries.
While the glue dries, snip small pieces of baby's breath and greenery and carefully glue them into the empty spots on the Styrofoam. If you are using artificial flowers, you may be able to insert the pieces directly into the Styrofoam. Allow the bouquets to dry about 30 minutes. Remove the toothpicks.
Cut 3-12" pieces of ribbon. Apply a thin amount of glue along one edge of a Popsicle stick and starting at one end on a slight diagonal wrap it with one 12" strip of ribbon leaving extra ribbon at the end to trail off the handle. Glue the other 2-12" strips if ribbon to the tip of the handle by wrapping them around it and allowing them to flow from it. Insert the plain side of the handle (the end without the ribbon streamers) into the back of the Styrofoam ball where the hole is at a slight angle, using a small amount of glue to secure it.
If necessary, cut a 1/4" hole in the middle of each doily, apply a small amount of glue to it, and thread it through the handle up to the back of the bouquet, pressing it gently against the Styrofoam to adhere it. If you don't have doilies, cut out 4" circles of your favorite fabric or paper.
Yield: 10 Nosegays

We were really limited on our budget so our favors were what I cut back on the most. Jason and I really like oriental stuff and didn't have anything in our wedding that was oriental, so we thought we would do origami for our favors. We toyed with the idea of making cranes, but decided, instead, to make boxes and put candy in them. We bought cellophane tissue paper and pastel m&ms that were on sale right after Easter. This is what they ended up looking like:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d123/usahgrad/Wedding%20Pics/831%20Pictures/CRW_8562.jpg

I still have a WHOLE BAG of the boxes left over...argh!

I was messing around on the Michaels website yesterday and saw soem awesoem ideas.
You can get a wine glass or chpagne flute and etch it with either your initals, or the date or both. It is a lot of work though. But the otehr idea I saw was to fill oen of these glasses with a homemade candle. Yiu can get the transparent wax and make it look liek champagne in the glass.
I can't see anybody throwing either of these away. But they both seem liek a lot of work.
