I still swaddle Averi at night. MIL mentioned that I should probably stop soon. What age did you mommies stop swaddling. I think I am going to try leaving her arms out tonight and see how that goes.

Never swaddled Amelia (she HATED it from day one) so I can't really help. However, Several Mommies in my mom's group swear by the swaddle so I hear thier stories and alot of them swaddled until their little one started rolling.
Don't know if this really helps.

I think the class we took said about 3-4 months (but I don't exactly remember that part). After that they realize they are out of the womb and don't really need to be swaddled anymore.
Oh and that's the start of the separation anxiety phase. After taking that class, it seems so weird to me that right at that time point is when FMLA expires and most parents go back to work.

Neither of my boys liked to be swaddled. But my friend "swaddled" her little girl till she was almost a year old. As she got old it was more just being wrapped up good. But she couldn't sleep with out it.
Shoot we swaddled Paisley until just a few months ago. I guess she was about 7 months old. Now that I think about it she has been sleeping pretty cr@ppy since we stopped. :bbconfused:
My friend swaddled her boys till they were bout 15 months old. It was the only way her boys would stay asleep.
Meanwhile, I don't swaddle Katie, so I can't say from experience.

I've heard of parents swaddling up to 6 months or more. We swaddled for the first 2 months or so. We stopped swaddling during the day just because I didn't really want to have them swaddled 24/7 but we continued swaddling at night. Eventually DH just stopped swaddling them altogether at night, I'm not sure why. Sometimes I wish we still swaddled them because they wake themselves up with their hands pulling and tugging on their faces, but when we swaddle them, they get so mad and do everything they can to free their arms.

I still swaddle Hannah at night - but leave her legs loose. She won't sleep much more than an hour unswaddled. She is such a wiggler that she'll be flailing all around if she doesn't have her arms wrapped up. I think one of the reasons that people say you should stop is for hip/leg development but since we don't wrap her legs tightly I'm not too worried about it. Hannah does have to be asleep already for me to be able to wrap her up - otherwise she gets pissed!

oh yea i leave lexis legs out too! she is long and would kick until at least on foot was out lol
the doctor told me there is not real reason to stop other than they should feel more comfortable in their environment and not need to be swaddled, like they should be more controlling of their movements and not have those random jerks like they are falling and scared...
I never thought that it may have something to do with their legs hummmm that may be true

we stopped a few days after leaving the hospital. They both wiggled so much that they got out of it anyways, so no advice here. But they sleep fine with just a blanket over their legs.

I just stopped swaddling Luke a couple weeks ago...not cause I wanted to but he would wiggle his arms out and wake up with his arms stuck!
We have the swaddle things made by Summer I think...they wrap the babys arms up but they allow the little legs room to move around....kinda hard to explain. Luke loved them up until a week or so ago.

Well I tired not to swaddle her last night and that was a disaster. I thought she was ready because she has been breaking out of the swaddle blankets. So it looks like I might have to buy a bigger swaddle blanket and keep swaddling her for now.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! :) I say keep swaddling her if that's what helps her get a good night's sleep. I hope you can find a way to keep her contained.

Do you have swaddler keepers? Just arms... http://www.edensbaby.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=661
Or sleepsack? Full body... http://www.amazon.com/Halo-Innovations-Sleepsack-Swaddle-Daisies/dp/B001D7E0NC/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1295025287&sr=8-9

We use those, too, and Finn usually gets an arm out before it's all done. I have no plans to stop swaddling him in the near future!

Thats funny lol... Lexi was an escape artist when she was first born but after the first month or so she wanted to be swaddled and would let me do it and be still...
