Very much so! lol. I will actually not reply to a post that has such horriable spelling and gramar that I cannot understand a word that person is trying to say. I have a dictionary right near my computer and if I don't know how to spell something I look it up. :D

I have to admit, they do bug me too. I am a proof reader at work, so I notice everything. But I'm also anal, so don't mind me at all. :D

I am pretty much the same. The odd spelling mistake or gramatical error happens...but if you can't spell simple words it just drives me crazy!!

I also voted that it bothers me, but I know that I'm probably one of the worst offenders. I think I'm thinking of other boards though where people don't even bother to capitalize or use any sort of punctuation at all. That said, no one is perfect. Typos happen. :)
By the way, where is the spell checker? I'm not seeing any sort of button for that at all.

You know, when they don't capitalize or use any punctuation, it is so hard to read. I just ignore those posts, because it gives me a headache trying to decipher what they say. LOL!

Sometimes they do, but sometimes I do make typos and I don't care to go back and fix everything that I may have messed up. As far as the spell check, you have to load some program and I really don't care to do that.
If I was doing something for work or school or something important (not that you guys aren't important) I defiantely make sure I do everything correctly. It is like when I'm talking with friends. When I talk to them I don't talk the same way I talk when giving a presentation or at a job interview. Since I consider you my friends I am not going to be that formal.
The only people that really bother me badly are the people who constantly make horrible grammatic errors and horrible spelling errors. I know this isen't English class, but I know we all went to some school.

They both bother me too. I try my hardest to make sure there are no spelling mistakes I read and re-read everything. But we all are human and I too make mistakes. I also fix a lot of stuff after it was posted.

it bothers me when people dont spell corectly or use propar grammer because u cannot reed what their trying to get akrost to you because you don't read quit what are trying say and when they don't use right puntuashun because not makes sense.
Just kidding... Yeah it bothers me with both because like a couple others said, you can't understand fully what they are trying to say, especially when the punctuation is horribly wrong.

I can understand typos but I will double check my spelling before I post. If I see a mistake afterwards, I will go back to edit the posting.
That said, I was enrolled in French Immersion classes from grade 4 - 8 and some of the errors that I do make are because I am unsure as to whether I am spelling the English word or the French.
Some words have similar spellings. Most French words that end in "ment" are preceded by an "e" .... investment for example.... investissement ..... I might spell it investEment. Both spellings look correct to me - it's confusing!

I still can't find it either. I think Kacie mentioned that you have to have some sort of add on? Where would we go to download something like that? I know that I've wished for a spellchecker before, so that'd be nice to have.

You don't have to add anything, it's right there when you go to reply to any post. It's right above the smilies and looks like this http://forums.onewed.com/images/editor/spelling.gif

It drives me crazy! I know that we (including myself) are guilty of missing the occasional error when we proof read. That is why when I give a writing assignment I always tell the kids to have a second party proof read just in case. It is really hard to proof your own work sometimes. But, the posts where I can't understand 99% of the content, I don't even both with. I don't have the time.

I hate it when it is so bad that I cannot make out what people are trying to say. If this is the case I move on to another post. I am not bothering with it.

It usually doesn't bother me too much unless it is really bad. I know that I am a great offender of this, because I type so fast..lol...but I try to correct when I see it...even if I have to edit later. Now that I know there is a spell check button I will try to use it...lol!!!

Same with me. A typo doesn't bother me, it's when you can't understand anything they are trying to say, that's the time when I just move on to the next post. :D

OK I feel like I shouldn't post anything now. I am not a good speller at all, I am horrible at it. I am not an English teacher. I don't know all the PROPER ways to make a sentence. And if I dont know how to spell a owrd I will think of another word to take it's place. Now I am one that has alot of TYPOS. I think my brain is going faster then my fingers.
I don't however think mine are so bad you can't read them. But if they are I am sorry. But this is not school, we are not all perfect.

Well it says that I have to download something for the spell check to work. I can see it there, but I cannot use it until I download it. I do agree that there are some posts out there where it is so hard to comprehend what the person is actually saying.

I said no. Mostly because i don't notice it alot. I will fully admit that i have terrible spelling and grammar. I never did very well at either subject in school and struggle to this day. So i can't complain too much about other peoples poor grammar and spelling. I do get very annoyed when there is no punctuation at all, or when all caps are used.
There is a spell check button?!?!? Where?!

Yours are fine and very easy to read. I agree it's not school, but it is a form of communication, therefore it should be written well enough to be able to be read. The ones that bother me the most are the ones where there is no capitalization, no punctuation and a really, really long post or story with no paragraph separations.

I agree, we're all guilty of typos and bad grammar every now and then. And no emails and board messages do not 'have' to be perfect, but we should make an effort that they at least be coherent thoughts ;)
In general I'd say the bad spelling gets to me the worst though. We have spell check for a reason ;)

It is explained in depth on pages 1 and 2 of this thread. You can also see it at the top, right corner of the quick reply box. If you are using a Mac it might not be available (also discussed in this thread). :)

The latest Google tool bar also has a spell check for just this kind of thing. I love it, basically it can check your spelling when you type in forums, or fill out forms and such online.

Ah! I get it now. It's a browser thing. I don't use Internet Explorer as my default browser. I use Mozilla Firefox. For whatever reason, Firefox isn't displaying the spell check button. But you're right, it's there when I open up the forums using IE. Here's what I see in Firefox:

It's a little small, but I think you can see that there's not spell check botton next to the editor mode button. I'm going to download the Google Toolbar that Weblady mentioned.

It bothers me... I'm not completely anal rententive when it comes to spelling and punctuation because I realize people are human and they make mistakes every now and then, but when someone habitually has poor grammar or poor spelling (and they're supposively native english speakers), I know I definately tend to think that the person posting isn't too bright when that may not actually be true.
