yes, it will be my first wedding ;) The very best had to start somewhere.
I am a very skilled photographer with a professional 8 mp camera. I will match any photographers package up to $2000. The wedding taking place the closest to where i live will get my services.

Where are you from? That may help you to get responses if you let your location be known.

I did a few freebies when I first started in wedding photography :bbmrgreen: You might also try looking in your local paper for leads with new engagement announcements ;)

Even if it's your first wedding, I would want to see a portfolio of other work if I was the couple choosing you.

That may not always be possible in cases like this, that is why these student photographers do things for free ;) This is one of the risks you take ... besides, just because someone can take good pictures of still life, or models and such doesn't mean they are going to be good at wedding photography.

However, in most cases like this you will get at least 'ok' pictures. And this girl is offering to match any photographers package ... sounds like a good deal to me.

If you are having an extremely formal or elaborate event then I wouldn't take the chance, but if you're on a budget and don't want to spend thousands on a pro then I would look into something like this.

Someone could always hire another photographer as well .... the more photos the better!

Hugh and I hired two film students to shoot for a reunion video that we did. We saw some samples of work they had done for school and we liked "their style". They were professional, accomodating and the end result was wonderful.

My minor is speech communication and that department shares a building with the radio/tv, journalism, and photography departments. The photography students have some of their work displayed on the walls and they have some amazing shots.

Elizabeth has a good idea about hiring 2 photogaphers as well!

While this would seem like a good idea, I'd be sure to check with the pro about having another photographer there.

I know several photographers that have it in their contract that no other photographer can be there. I had this same thing in my contracts when I was a wedding photographer.

I would suggest you contact a photographer in your area and ask to shadow him as a back up photographer. Tell him up front what your desires are and some will take you along on the less serious jobs.

There are times when we are so focused on getting it right, we will not allow it. My son has a natural talent and I took him on a job as a back-up and he did exceptually well. I have photographers who want to shoot with me now. I have to pick and chose the jobs to allow a back up photographer on. This is a serious business and only those who know how important this day and event is to the bride should take on such an assignment.

Hello,

During the summer, you should stake out places that have a high volume of weddings. I don't know where you live, but if you live in toronto, you should check out the scarbrough bluffs or unionville main st. On any given Saturday in the summer, there will be around 5-10 weddings on those locations. You should just hang around for the day, and ask the couples if you can take a couple of pics, and send them a couple of pictures afterwards. Then you would have multiple numbers of couples to put in your portfolio, and you would not have to invest in one whole day with just one couple.
