View Full Version : A stupid thing

Ok, I did something stupid last night that I think will give everyone a laugh.

First, I have to explain. I'm not getting my dress altered here in the US. I'm going to wait and have it altered the month before the wedding while I'm in the UK. This allows me continue losing weight. :)

So, I picked up my dress last Friday and brought it home. It's been hanging in my closet since. Last night, Jonathan went to the Real Madrid soccer game so I knew he'd be gone for a few hours. I finished something I'd been working on and got a little bored...and I think you can guess what I decided to do.

Of course I decided to try on my dress...I hadn't had a chance to yet, and I wanted to see if it fit at all since I tried on a different size at the shop.
(Just in case you're all curious, it's this dress (http://davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=302&prodgroup=10). It looks WAY better in person. I didn't give it a second look on the website, but I fell in love with it in the shop.)

I unzipped it and slipped it on. Ohh, it felt so pretty. I was giddy. I realized that it was a little loose (which I expected since I have lost over 30 pounds) so I slipped it up a little, zipped it...and wiggled until it slid back down again. The bodice is very form fitting, and I'm pretty large chested so that took some work. At this point alarm bells should have been ringing. So, I got the dress on...and it's loose through the waist but fits almost perfectly through the bodice. Pleased, I decided I'd better take it off and get it put away before anything disastrous happened. I realized at this point that I can't reach the zipper. It's snug enough that I can't skootch it back up...I'm stuck. At this point I was wondering why oh why I'd picked a dress with straps. Eventually...I managed to wiggle a little bit. Unzip. Wiggle a little more. Unzip. About 10 minutes later (felt like an eternity) I finally got out of the dress with no damage and without having to wait for someone to come home and unzip me. It felt like a very close call last night. Now it just seems funny, so I thought I'd share.

Wow...that is funny!!! I am glad that you were able to get out of it...it would have really sucked if you would have had to wait until he got home to unzip you!!!

I didn't even think of that! No way is the dress coming out again though. I should post a wedding journal though. I'm having a lot of fun going through everyone elses. I don't have a lot of pictures to display though because everything is in England at the moment. Hmmmm.

That is great. I needed a chuckle today. I am glad that no damage was done to the dress. And BTW, it's a beautiful dress!!

How cute! I got the bright idea that I wanted to try mine on and tied a bow in it at the top (LACE UP BACK) so that it would stay up long enough for me to put on my shoes and the veil and tiara....when I got ready to take it off i jerked the lace and put an instant knot in it! Thank God I'm small chested (never thought I'd say that) so I had to turn the back to the front and work on the knot to get it off!

LOL I AM SO GLAD I'm not the only one who did something like this, you made me feel "not so alone"!

Aww Jenn that is such a cute story! Did you tell your FH about nearly getting stuck or are you going to wait until after the wedding?

I told him. He rolled his eyes at me. He thinks that I'm capable of huge amounts of silliness, but he says that's one of the reasons he loves me.

And CowboysBride, I'm so glad to hear that someone else had done the same thing. I tried turning it around once I had my arms out of the straps...but no such luck. It was skootch, wiggle, unzip, repeat all the way for me.

Next, thanks for posting this! I have been thinking about trying on my dress to see if it fits yet (I need to loss a few poud for it to zip up all the way). Well, my BMs are not availible to I figure I will do it myself this weekend. Now I know what to look out for so I don't end up stuck in the dress for quite some time!!!

You could always put a little loop of string through the zipper...kind of like what they do in a wet suit and then that way you can reach the string and still be able to pull the zipper down!! :D
