Some of the strangest things have been happening at the new house.
The for 2 days my rotating fan has occassionally stopped as if it was hitting somthing. But there was nothing for it to bump into it. I thought maybe the motor was just being stupid.
Then today I was sitting in the living room writing some notes. No where near the stereo. Not touching the remote which was sitting on its own on the coffee table. The cat was in the other room sleeping. And the stereo turned on and started playing the Matthew Good CD inside. The power was turned on, then the play had to be pressed. It then played 3 songs and ended after the verse "I will never forget you" The CD stopped and the stereo turned off. I looked up and saw that the screen was saying Good Bye.
So weird. I had to leave cause i was creeping myself out.

Oh man! I would have high tailed it right out of the house...rumor has it that our place is haunted too (the house is over 100 yrs old). Thankfully I have never heard or seen anything and prefer to think that it's just silly but I still find myself turning lights on in rooms I walk into and looking over my shoulder from time to time....

Eric's uncle was aggravating me Monday and told me that I have a ghost and if I ever see it I need to talk to it in order for it to stay friendly...not actually my first thought... the only talking I will be doing is to the realtor to find a new home!

i have had thing like that happend on and off all my life. such and when a close friend passed away in 2000. He gave me a tape with the song angel on it by arrowsmith the song is some place in the middle of the tape. So when i finaly opened the tape after he passed it was right on the song angel he is the one that gave me my nick name angel.

then sinces the age of 3 i have seen some dark shadow at the foot of my bed almost everynight of my life . I figure it is just my grandfather who passed away when i was about a year old. I also fill someone stroke my face from time to time it dose not bug me at all.

The house is old. About 100 years. I'm going to do some research to see if i can find any history on it.
I have talked to whatever is happening. When the stereo first came on i said 'Oh, you want to listen to the stereo?!' Might seem silly. But i belive that my younger brother follows me. Not in a bad way or anything. But that he is just there with me. I can feel it at times. Like a precence. But never has anything like this happend before. I'm a bit freaked. But not tooo much. I'm not sure i will be able to go home for too long tonight when Mark isn't home.

Our house is close to one hundred years old. My husband's grandmother passed away in our house. From time to time I get this feeling as if I am being watched. And on occasion I feel a presence. I just chalk it up that it is his grandmother and softly tell her how happy her grandson has made me and how I am going to be in this house a long, long time. Jerry has said several people have said they have seen her from time to time.

I used to live in a place that I know had spirits in it. I believe in those kinds of things. And they have never bothered me. But I have never had things bad happen. They just let me know they are there. And I can usually feel their presence before I hear/see things. It's possible it could be your brother or someone who has passed.

It definatly was a bit weird. After the stereo went off i started to get a bit creeped out. So i decided to leave.
I'm not looking forward to tonight. Mark has bad practise so he won't be home till late. I think i might hang out at my mom's until closer to the time he'll be getting home.

That would freak me out too, but unless something bad happened I would probably just assume that they were harmless!! I hope that you can find some type of way to deal with this...since I am assuming that you just signed some type of lease!! Good Luck!!!

J's mom's house was built from wood from an old hospital in the area. Since she has lived there, her tv has turned on in the middle of the night, or turned off when they are watching something. There have also been times when she swore she heard old music. I told her I am scared of her house, but she just laughs. She tells people that she has to be good so she doesn't upset the ghosts!!!

I sort of believe in that stuff. Once I thought I saw something one night when I was younger, but I have always wrote it off as a dream. I really don't know to be honest. I know that would creep me out though! Sometimes it makes me a little nervous when I think about this house because the man who used to lived here died in this house. His family still owns it and we rent it from them. The last place we lived in was over 100 years old. It was a really big house, but it was broken down into a downstairs and 2 upstairs apartments. I always thought it could be haunted, but nothing weird ever happened to us there.

Aww i didn't mean to scare anyone with my post. I just thought it was so bizzar i wanted to share.
I found a message board for the paranormal and i posted about what happend today. They've suggested i hit up the local library for more info on the house, keeping a journal of the weird things, but also talk to the landlord about the electrical. Maybe there was a surge or somthing.

That is a creepy thing to have happen. I would leave too.

I lived in a place when I first moved here to NH ( was there for 8 or 9 years ) that I swear was haunted with somethign or some one. My daughter always had nightmares. Even in the middles of the day. She woul dbe nappy in my bed in the middle of the day as a 2 yr old and would wake up screaming standing in the bed. She always woke up crying almost every night.

I also always felt my bed shaking. My neighbors told me to tell it to stop because that was what they did ( the house was break into 3 apartments ). I told them no way was I going to do that, being home alone I would be more scared if I told it to stop and it did then i fI just let it shake for a few mins. It wasnt always just when I was in bed but usualy. but the hosue would shake. So bad that the windows would rattle. My mom was visiting once and asked me what that was. I still have no idea. I can't imagine that it was mini quaks that just I felt. lol

I also lived in a house when I was in high school that was haunted. From the time we were just painting it and my cousin had her dog with us. That dog was barking up the stairs. Growling and barking at nothing. We were not moved in yet but my cousin and I decided to stay over night after painting our room. My mom would get up during the night, hear the TV going and check to see if my cousin and I were in bed before going downstair. If we were in ebd she would go back to bed and forget about going down. When we moved out the people that moved in siad they saw a girl in a white dress in the kitchen.

I could go on and on, the apartment my cousin lived in for a while had something evil in it. I could tell you so much about that place. She had said that others who rented it had left in the middle of the night and headed to a hotel to never return.

So needless to say I beleive in this stuff. Does it freak me out? YES!!! But I still find it interesting.

I have personally never really had anything creepy happen to me, but my dad has. This is a little different than ghosts, but it is still scary!

When my dad was still in high school, he was really good friends with this boy. Anyways, my dad was suppose to go out with him one night, but dad decided not. Well, during the night, my dad had this horrible dream that his friend was going around the corner of a road and that his car started skidding. The friend lost control and ended up going into the ditch and flipping his car. The friend got thrown through the window and the car ended up landing on him and killing him. My dad said that he awoke shaking and all sweaty. About 30 minutes later, his mother (which would by my grandmother) came into his room and said that his friend had gotten into a car wreck and had died. The real scary part is that the wreck happened in the same exact way it had in my dad's dream and at the same curve in the road. How scary is that?!

My grandmother had a similar incident happen to her. When my mother was a kid she said my grandmother had a dream about a horrible earthquake and a bridge collasping. They went to get the paper that morning and found out there had been one of those really bad earthquakes in California. Weird.

It's creepy but so interesting! :D Both Matthew and I have had "paranormal" happenings. My parent's live in a house that the previous owner died in the garage. (Had a heart attack and fell face first into a thing of paint apparently.) Things will fall off my parent's china cabinet and when I was a pre-teen I can remember hearing the drawers on my dresser opening and closing and then my bed sank like someone sitting down on the edge of my bed. A friend of mine stayed over and she was freaked out the next morning and told me she heard some things the night before. It never freaked me out because I knew it was just Mike.

But in our old farm house, it was a different story. The spirits there were so scary. I would wake up in the middle of the night shaking with a red light always beside me...I saw shadows in our bedroom every night. I had to start sleeping with a flash light under my pillow and I still do to this day because it freaked me out so bad!

When I was pretty young I remember watching some ghost/ ufo file show w/ my parents that creeped me out. My twin sis and I shared a bedroom and my bed faced the window, which always scared me to death by the way! I always was scared to look out the window @ night! (There were no curtains on it.) I would always take a glimpse out of it every night bc I had a weird feeling though. One night I "think" I seen some freaky looking face out my window! I jumped out of my bed as fast as I could and I crawled on the floor, covered my head w/ my covers and woke up my sis. We told our mom and we checked the window and nothing was there! I still till this day don't know if it was just my mind playing tricks on me or what! I'll never forget that vision though!!!!

Also, Michael and I had his old stereo turn on when it wasn't even on,
I swear the music that played sounded like funeral music! We were so freakin scared! Needless to say, we didn't use that stereo for a long time if ever again!

I have always seen things from the corner of my eye, but am never sure if it's something, or my imagination. Not that I let it worry me, and not in every place I have lived, but definitely in old buildings, a lot.

When my mom was young, she got a cedar chest that was about 100 years old and used to be on a sailing ship as a gift. Apparently there was a ghost attached to the chest, because all the time she had it, doors would open and close on their own in her house, floors would creak when everyone in the house was in the same room. While that could be potentially explained, my uncle was scared to death of it, because whenever my uncle would sit in a chair, he would end up a couple of inches from the bottom of the chair... I've actually seen pictures of this!! I don't know, but it seems odd to me! I htink that most "ghosts" are friendly, but then, I"ve never had to deal with an unfriendly one.:)

My grandmother's house is haunted... it always has been. The house is built on top/next to a mass burial area for the civil war. Her "ghost" does the light switch thing, slams doors, plays the piano (from the 1800's) and turns off the tv. Its a nice "ghost" but its mischevious. They have blessed the house so many times, but it wont go away. It doesnt bother anyone now... we're all used to it.

I've had a few experiences. The night my grandfather passed away I felt a hand on my shoulder, when I turned around, no one was there.

A friend of mine and I were in this old house with a man her mom was taken care of. The man was bed ridden and on the first floor. It was around 3am and just her and I in the house and you could hear someone walking around on the second floor.

I actually volunteered to stay the night in a haunted house. It's in Villisca Iowa. Called the Villisca Axe Murder house. The same year the titanic sank a family of 6 and two girls staying the night were murdered with an axe. No one knows who did it. Currently the house is a museum and you can stay the night in the house. My FH, four other people and I went into the house. We were each assigned a room and had to be in there alone. Every half hour we were supposed to change rooms. They had cameras and audio set up. I was in the children's bedroom and the closet door was lightly banging back and forth. I was sitting on the floor and talking to myself, mainly because I didn't like the room and at one point I stood up to go take a picture of something and when I stood up the door slammed. I screamed and went out of the house. I did go back in later, but couldn't stay in. I was just too freaked out. My FH tells me I was imagining things, but you can hear the door slam on the audio. Other weird things happened that night. Such as the batteries in our cameras kept on dying, and they were brand new batteries. There's a bunch of websites out there on the house if anyone's interested in reading about it.

sorry this is a long experience

I had an experience with the house my FH rented when he first moved two hrs away! I came to visit him and he still had to be out on patrols for a couple more hrs so I was left alone with our kittie in this pretty empty house. We talked on the phone while he drove back to the house and when he pulled up he says "woman you have every light in the house on" which I did... I did it with out even realizing I had. Anyway later I began to hear noises from the down stairs area when I was using the restroom and ken was still sleeping across the house. Finally ken showed me the downstairs and he fliped out because in this one room a chair had been moved across the room and the cubbords (sp) had all been opened.(He lived alone and no one had been there but him.) The last night I was there I wouldn't go near the kitchen by myself( It had the bathroom off of it and next to it was the door to the down stairs.) My kittie followed me everywhere and would stare at the downstairs door. Well the last night I was there ken was in the bathroom and I was starting supper. I turned my head to the right and there she was just for a sec. black hair and she was not happy I was there! I was sooooo glad I left the next day!! oh and Ken moved out soon after because she kept bugging him too!!

In Calgary there is an old house that is now a museum as well. It is said to be haunted. They've done all sorts of tests and such but i haven't heard anything about them. But stories of staff members who have seen and heard things happening.

I have had weird things happen to me too. We use a light night in our room becuase of the baby. (really!) Anyway, One night after getting to bed a bit too late, I was just about to fall asleep, and the light was flickering, so I got out of bed and fixed it. Everything seemed fine, but as soon as I got back to bed, the light went out, and our bedroom dorr began to close. I was so scared, I was up the whole night. (FYI: The light never would work again.)

The old historic hotel here in Rapid has stories like that. Infact my mother saw when one of them was killed. She was on her wedding night and either jumped or was pushed from one of the higher stories in the building. My mother was outside the neighboring movie theater getting popcorn when she saw her fall into the power lines across the street. It is said she still haunts the honeymoons suite. It was the Alex Johnson Hotel. I think they have things on their website about their ghosts.

Well I have avoided this post like the plague but last night and this morning we had something happen.

I was doing laundry yesterday evening, before I left to go eat with the inlaws at around 710PM I put in a load of wet clothes and turned the dryer on for 40 mins (this I am positive of). When I got home at 815 the dryer had gone off (duh!) and I did not have time to turn them back on for a few minutes (dewrinkle) and then fold and put away...so I left it alone.

This morning when I got up at 640 I heard the dryer going....sure enough it was on..........I woke Eric up and asked him why he had turned the dryer back on and he had no idea what I was babbling about. He did however tell me that last night (around 2AM) he woke up to go to the bathroom and heard the dryer...he thought I had gotten up and turned it on!

So the dryer turned itself on around 2AM and 640AM....does not make sense!

I thought maybe the timer had gotten stuck and it had actually been on the whole time but then

1) how did it get turned on around 2AM
2) the clothes weren't warm so it couldn't have been on for very long at 640 this morning.
3) it didn't storm last night (I thought it might have had a power surge or something) but nothing else in the house was out of sync....(clocks blinking etc....)
4) It was off when I got home at 815 last night...

I have never heard or seen anything funny since I moved into the house in July...Eric's sister and her hubby and Eric's uncle all like to tell me that some woman inhabits the house but I think they are doing that because they know what a big chicken I am when it comes to stuff like that and the fact that Eric doesn't get home until midnight so poor little Ellen might pee her panties if she got spooked...

Just thought I would share, there IS A REASONABLE EXPLANATION FOR THIS, I just don't know what....maybe I should call Ghostbusters LOL!

Ellen, did you and Eric place the dryer in the house yourself? I am asking because when I moved into an apt. a few years ago I had this same problem. It took me awhile to figure out, but their was a timer hooked up to the plug in on the back of the dryer. It was set to come on at certain times and go off at certain times. This spooked me as well. I kept asking and sometimes getting upset with my daughter for turning it off and on.

Yep, my dad and mom bought the W/D combo for me brand new from Sears last year...our dads and Eric put it in the house and I hooked up the dryer and vented it myself, there's nothing on the back of the dryer but the vent and the power cord...

Well set it up next to a cow patty. The smell will keep the ghosts away while inside it. :D

Seriously I never believed in them either until years ago when we moved into a house that we found out later someone had commited suicide in. We had numerous spooky things happen to us while there. I sat outside one day all day with my kids and refused to go back inside. One morning when we woke up something or someone had thrown millions of straight pins into our living room carpet. You could see them everywhere. Our cookstove would come on and go off. The faucets would turn themselves on. The air would also do the same. Then one night late I was the only one up at the time, I was watching tv and heard someone in the freezer fixing a glass of ice. I didn't really think to much about it cause that is a sound you get used to. then it dawned on me that my husband was in bed and would have had to walked by me to get into the kitchen. My kids were in the bed as well. That was it, we never spent another night there. I had had enough.

LOL!! That would have been nice thing for him to do! I don't think I would have minded him haunting me, as long as he would throw in a load every time he was around. LOL! :D

Isn't that funny? I agree, male ghosts would be scarier. I don't know why I just think of him as male. Oooooo, scary!!!!!! :bbeek: But I think the female ghost would do a better job on the laundry. lol

Well the problem is solved! I got home last night and started to do laundry and noticed that the dryer wasn't heating up...I checked the lint trap, the vent and then read the manual...it said my dryer uses two fuses...one was blown (thus the drum was turning but no heat)...it was a power surge and the last time it surged (turned the dryer on right before I got up) it blew the breaker and the dryer quit drying! WOOHOO I don't have a ghost in my laundry room (doing the no ghost dance)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well this has definitely been an amusing post to read. I have a few ghost stories of my own I thought I would share.

The house we currently live in was built in 1889. I don't know if there were any deaths in it, but I do know it is a beautiful house and if I owned it, I'd hang around after death too. We have two doors in our bedroom that lead to an attic area that is on the same floor (our bedroom is on the third floor). When you walk into the bedroom, there is one straight across from you, and one on the wall to your right (there's also two little doors). Just after I moved in, Jason went up to our bedroom to put on his shoes because we were going out and the door to the right of the bedroom door was partially open. He closed it, came downstairs, and asked me why I left the door open in the bedroom (we have a cat and we were afraid she would get in there and then into the walls of the house). I said I didn't; did he? He said no. That same door we find with the lock open all the time. This was fine, I could get through this. But what really gets me is the knocking on the other door. I was getting ready for bed one night and I heard a knocking on the door that is across from the bedroom door. Jason was in bed next to me and I turned to him with wide eyes and asked him if he heard that. He looked at me and said no, he didn't hear it, but he knew what I was talking about because he had heard it a few days ago. He got up and opened to door because I was trying to rationalize that the wind was blowing something against the door (we store some cardboard boxes in there). Well, there's nothing against the door when he opened it and my bouquet (which is hanging in there to dry) wasn't moving. If there had been wind strong enough to knock something against the door, then the bouquet would have been swinging too. Wowsas!

My other freaky ghost experience happened when I went to visit Antietam. It was a cloudy day (in fact, it ended up storming REALLY bad that evening). I was walking down to Burnside's Bridge and I saw a glimpse of something brown out of the corner of my eye. I rationalized it as my eyes playing tricks on me and headed on down to the bridge. On my way back up (I was all alone at this point because the other people who were down there had left) I saw a man leaning against a tree on the side of the hill dressed in blue and holding a rifle with a bayonet fixed. I couldn't move I was so scared. I closed my eyes, told myself to calm down, that I was just hallucinating or something, I opened them again and he was still there. What got me the most about this was I could the glimmer of the sun off the bayonet...but it was cloudy and there was no sun! Needless to say, I didn't see the last few stops of the auto tour because I was too petrified to continue. When I got back to my brother's, which is where I was staying at the time I told him about what happened and he told me that he will never go there again because of something that happened to him on a boy scout trip. They were down walking in Bloody Lane and the kid next to him just collapsed. After he was revived, he told his leader that it felt like something hit him in the chest. They lifted his shirt up and there were three round black bruises on his chest. He swore they weren't there before.

Wow, sorry this was so long.

I literally did a little dance, I hate the not having a good explanation for things lol!

Eric is great with laundry I just dote over him too much (and he deserves it). He works so hard on the farm and at work, I actually like washing his clothes and cooking and taking care of him.

he he he.... dancing!

I really enjoy taking care of Mark too. I don't mind cooking and doing the dishes. Laundry isn't as easy as it used to be. Our old apartment building had 8 washers and dryers so we could do everything all at once. 2 hours and it was done. now its 4 or 5 hours to do everything on one day. :bbconfused:

Well I'm late to this thread... but I am always so intrigued by ghost stories! I don't believe in a lot of things but this is one thing I truly believe in.

In the town where I grew up there was this house on a corner lot. Back in the early 1900's there was a lady who lived there and one day she "supposedly" fell down the stairs and died. This house is said to be haunted by her. No one can stay living there and it's always for sale or rent bc of the crazy things that happen there. One day when I was little I was riding my bike by the house and I hit a rock and stopped my bike. For whatever reason I looked up at the house and in the second floor bedroom there was a face looking at me holding the curtain open. I looked away and then looked back and the curtain was closed. It still creeps me out to this day thinking about what I saw.

My grandmother's house when she was little was haunted. She believes it was her father. I'll tell you one story because I don't want to steal your thread. =) It was right after her dad died and all these crazy things started happening. Her and her sister were laying in bed one morning and all of a sudden they heard a gunshot. My grandma got up and ran her little butt outside but her sister wasn't behind her. When she went back into the house her sister was sitting on the bed white as a ghost (no pun intended!). She asked her why she didn't get up and her sister told her that she felt hands lightly holding her down to the bed... There was only one gun in the house up on the wall.
