Yeah!!!!!!!!! Just in time for me to get some last minute ideas for our wedding. Unfortunately, I will not have finished my remaining DYI projects in time to post them this week but I will add them later anyhow.

Here are my contributions (everything is DYI) -

Our invites -

http://www.serendipity-crafts.com/images/WeddingInvitation2.jpg

Hankies that I am giving to my attendants & our mothers (I didn't make these but bought them from another artisan instead) -

http://forums.onewed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=184&d=1152463187

Our sanctuary decoration (fencing wire, silk flowers, DIY vellum butterflies and store bought mesh butterflies) -

http://www.serendipity-crafts.com/images/Spiral6.jpg

A close up - we cut each of the white butterflies out of velum paper ourselves, glued them to wire and added the attenae.

One cool idea is to have a butterfly release at your ceremony or at the reception. You should probably be able to find information about butterfly relealses in your own area by doing an internet search.

FYI - Some do not care for the idea of having a live butterfly release because many butterflies die in shipping or die afterwards (because they cannot make it to warmer climates after they normally would have migrated south).

If you are looking for an alternative, this company makes personalized wind-up butterflies (similar to the ones you can get in a hallmark store) that you can hide in dinner napkins (for example) or use as favours.

I happen to know that she is having troubles with her site so just email her if you have any questions or would like to see a little video clip of the butterflies in action -

I found some stuff if you do decide to go with live butterflys.

Some rules for all releases include:

(1) Butterflies should be released outside during daylight hours, on a sunny or overcast (but not rainy!) day with a temperature above 60 F. Ideally, you should plan to let them fly free no later than two hours before sunset. This will allow sufficient time for them to nectar (eat) and to find a safe hiding place for the night.
(2) Hold your release in an area protected from the wind, or they will quickly disappear! A sunny, warm, flower-filled area or garden is best. The butterflies' first flight is usually very short, and they will instinctively fly toward the brightest object -- the bride or people wearing bright colors -- or towards flowers and bouquets.
Any additional instructions may be received from the breeder you are working with. Remember that IBBA breeders have the highest ethical code in the business and their first thoughts are always for the comfort of the butterflies. Butterflies can be shipped to you usually via overnight shipping. Butterflies are packaged individually in envelopes for their protection. The small envelopes are placed in a cool packed box and then re-boxed for additional protection for the butterflies during shipping.

You can find a list of butterfly breeders from this link: http://www.butterflybreeders.org (http://www.butterflybreeders.org)

Title: Butterfly Cookies
Categories: Chinese, Cookies, Ceideburg 2
Yield: 1 servings

1 Package won ton wrappers
1 c Powdered sugar
Oil for deep frying

Fixed these guys last night. Good stuff! Quite simple to do. I also
tried using granulated sugar and cinnamon as well as the powdered
sugar. All were equally good.

Yield: About 80

PREPARATION: Cut each won ton wrapper into 2 rectangles. Lay one
rectangle on top of the other to form a double thickness. Make three
1/2-inch slits in the center, lengthwise. To form a bow, pull one
end through the middle slit.

COOKING: Deep fry butterflies until golden, about 1 minute or less.
Drain on paper towel. Sift powdered sugar over both sides. Cool.

DO-AHEAD NOTES: These keep several weeks in air-tight containers. [Fat
chance! They didn't even make it through the next day! S.C.]

COMMENTS: These can also be made from egg roll wrappers but they're
three times as large. I prefer using won ton wrappers because I
think their mini size makes them more attractive.

From "The Chinese Village Cookbook." A practical guide to Cantonese
country cooking. Rhoda Yee, Yerba Buena Press, San Francisco. 1975.

Some of the types of flowers that butterflyies like. I read that they will fly toward your bouquet if you have the flowers they like. These would make a very colorful and beautiful bridal bouqet.
http://www.butterflyevents.com/images/zinnias.jpg

The most important element in creating a successful butterfly garden is to provide both, nectar and host plants.
Nectar plants provide food for the adult butterflies, and host plants provide food for the caterpillars.
Some common nectar flowers are Zinnias, Mexican Sunflowers, Lantana, Butterfly bush and Salvia.
Some common host plants are milkweed for Monarchs, Parsley for Painted Ladies and Anise for Swallowtail butterflies.

If your garden/butterfly themed wedding is outside you may want to consider a less formal dress. It will keep you cooler, especially if your wedding is during the hotter months. If you do go with a longer gown be sure you are not going to get to hot. I would also reccommend avoiding a long train because it could very dirty.

For your bridesmaids you may want to consider a tea length dress. Maybe have the guys not wear a jacket. You can still have them in ties or you can just have them in nice white shirts.

Here is a pic of what Justin wore when he was a groomesman at an outdoor wedding in May.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/stdklt11/wedding.jpg

Here is a pic of some other people an an outdoor ceremony. You can sort of see what the bride and groom wore.

http://www.cascadestrings.net/images/outdoor_wed_talk.jpg

Something similar to this style, minus the jacket, would work nicley. It is still long, but there a lot of fabric there making you hot.

We bought these to add to our spiral decoration but they would look lovely scattered on the table around the wedding cake.

Our DYI wedding favours - 3 butterfly note cards & envelopes, tied with ribbon and decorated with a seed paper butterfly.

We found the images online, printed them and glued them to the card stock. There were reallly supposed to be 4 cards per pack but we ran out of card stock and it was too late to order more. :)

Yep - www.flutteringdetails.com. Her website is a little wonky (doesn't work quite right for me) but Melissa is great to deal with & she will even personalize the butterflies.

I just wanted to bump this up and remind everyone that tomorrow the weekly theme changes. It is going to be roses. Please feel free to post more butterfly/garden theme stuff here if you happen to come across anything else. Thanks guys!

I found another cake while browsing. It is kind of wild, but I thought I would post it anyway.
