Reception different from ceremony?

Is it typical to have the reception close to where you're getting married?
I was looking up vendors and I found the absolute PERFECT (or looks that way) place to get married because it has everything he and I want, but the place that I was looking at for the reception is an hour and twelve minutes away. Is that too far?

Having the reception in a different location is not uncommon at all. Though, personally I think over an hour away is a little much. Especially if you have people coming from out of town already.

I went to a wedding as a vendor once where the reception location was 45 mins away from the church and they still lost some people.

But if those locations are what you want then you gotta do what you gotta do. I would just plan enough time for travel and make sure to let everyone know ahead of time what to expect.

I think keeping the venues closer together is certainly easier on the guests, but if you have your heart set on this place you can make it work. Is there any way you could shuttle people to the second location? I know it might be a little expensive, but a lot of people do that and it helps the guests out a lot.

Honestly, I would do it...and actually considered it. When we were first planning, we were trying to figure out a place for an outside wedding, and for a while, the only place we could think of was the beach on Lake Erie, which is about an hour away, little more possibly, from the reception location that we were planning at the time. We ended up finding 2 places much closer together (like 15 minutes apart) in the end.

I would just suggest to make sure that directions are very clear from one location to the other (if you don't end up shuttling like suggested above), that way you're guests will have less of a chance to get lost! ;)
