View Full Version : my sleepless night

Well Roxy (our dog that broke her leg) hasn't been sleeping well the last couple of nights (I think she is teething). Plus I have apparently been snoring off and on due to my allergies. So last night Roxy was tossing and turning and kicking DH in the side. Then when I started snoring he just yanked the pillow out from under me :bbeek:

Ok I'm sure it is annoying plus with the dog it has to be hard to sleep. But was that any reason to be mean to me? When this first started being a problem he would nudge me and I guess that didn't work. Then he would push me and I'd just roll over. But this pillow yanking sort of ticked me off :realmad:

I mean, I don't realized I'm doing it (and it can't be that loud) what and I suppose to do about it? Apparently it is worse when I'm on my back, I try to go to sleep on my side, but I will usually end up on my back. I don't know what to do ... I feel bad, but I am also sort of upset at the way DH handled the situation. He snores on occation and I don't push and poke at him or yank pillows out from under him.

I know this will not make you feel any better about DH being mean to you, but some people sleep really hard and do not realize things they do or say when they are like this. Justin is a prime example. He can get down right mean when he is asleep. He has said some awful things to me and other people and in the morning he has no recollection of it. I know the first thing someone is going to think is that he had been drinking, but he will do this stone cold sober. Justin has gone sleep walking before and done some other things in his sleep that are scarey. I really wish he would see someone about it because as hard as he sleeps it could be dangerous. I don't think he would wake up if there was a fire and the alarm was blasting to be honest. The only reason he wakes up in the mornings is because of his internal alarm clock.

About the snoring... Do you have problems with sore throats and tonsilitus (sp)? The reason I am asking is that I snored really bad they say when I was a kid. Then I had my tonsils removed and I hear that I don't snore anymore or very rarely.

No, not generally. I've had the occasional sore throat, but I wouldn't say it's a problem. I so still have my tonsils though, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. When I went to the allergy doctor, he asked if I was snoring before I could tell him. So apparently it is common :bbconfused:

I talked to DH and he said he didn't mean to yank the pillow out from under me, he just was tugging on it because the dogs were between us and that was the only thing he could reach. So I guess I must have just been sleeping on the edge of my pillow. We'll see what happens tonight ;)

I'm gonna look up some snoring remedies and see what I can find. Anyone know any?

I found this: http://www.snoring-solutions-that-work.com/index.html I don't know if it will be useful.

I would be pretty mad if someone yanked the pillow out from underneath me, too!

Let me give you some advice the doctor gave to me. It really works and you should try it out. Put the upper part of your bed up onto bricks or blocks of wood and elevate it about 3 inches off the floor. This helps keep your airway open thus preventing such loud snoring and also helps your sinuses as well. The doctor recommended this to me for acid reflux and I later found out that it is recommended for snoring as well. My husband says since doing this I do sometimes still snore but not nearly as loud or often as I once did. It may take a night or possibly two to get used to the adjustment but once you do other beds you might sleep in (motels or such) won't feel the same way. You will notice your sinuses much clearer in the mornings as well. Which will be good for your allergies if you are like me. No more stuffy nose in the mornings. Let me know if you try it and what you think.

I would be too, but maybe like someone said, he didn't realize he did it. Eric says I talk in my sleep :bbeek: and I hit him with my pillow this weekend, I woke up right as it came into contact with him...poor fella just balled up and scooted to his side of the bed:( . I understand why you got miffed, turnabout's fair play I say...yank one out from under him then ask him how it feels (but do it lightheartedly), fighting in bed is never good LOL!

Ok.....I think I can see what might have happened. You were snoring, he couldnt reach you to nudge you so he was going to give your pillow a little shake to wake you up. With you being on the edge of the pillow, when he did grab it, it can out from under you. I understand you being mad, and Im glad you talked to him and got it straightened out.
Kacie, Brian will yell at me in his sleep sometimes too and doesnt remember it. It used to bother me, but I know what it is now and it doesnt happen all that often for me to really worry about. When he starts, I just tell him to "shut the :censored: up and go back to sleep" He will usually tell me "Ok" and go back to sleep.

My doctor prescribed a nasel spary (Flonase, but now it's a generic) for my allergies, and Jonathan has noticed that my snoring has decreased by a lot. When I have a cold or something is clogging me up, apparently I could wake the dead.

What's really unfortunate is that I'm one of those deep sleepers that don't wake up for anything too...but all you have to do is whisper around him and he jerks awake. So you have my sympathies.

I've tried Flonase before and it just makes me sneeze :bbconfused: Then the last time I went to the Dr he gave me a new nasel spray called Astelin, well that one (while it too makes me sneeze) seems to give me a migraine.

As far as getting the allergies under control, I'm still working on that. I've tried Zyrtec (heard it was the best stuff out there) and it doesnt seem to work all that well for me. It will work fine for a few hours, but it is suppose to be 24 hr. The Allegra seems to work a little better, but it doesn't seem to last the whole 24 hrs either. I've tried taking it before bed in hopes to help with the snoring, DH says it sometimes helps.

 I don't know what to do ... I don't want to put bricks in my bed, I may try the breath right strips.

Thanks everyone :D

I don't mean to put the bricks in your bed. I mean to place the bricks under the feet at the head of the bed in the floor. Raise the elevation of the upper part of the bed. I too tried all the nasal sprays and take allergy medicine as well. Or at least I have tried all of these in the past, but none worked for me. The strips were great for me, but i ended up being allergic to the stupid glue to hold them in place. Just my luck!!!! but the bed raised does work for me.

lol ... oh, well the way my bed is made I couldn't lift up on end of it anyway.

hmmm, didn't think of that ... I am gonna try the strips and hope I'm not allergic to them.

Have you stayed on these medications consistently for at least 2 weeks? Sometimes with allergy meds it can take a while for the drug to build in your system and be completely effective.

I've been taking samples of both (sort of back and forth) for a couple of weeks off and on (allergies aren't bad enough to take anything all the time) I called the Dr today (well left a message) to see what he'd recommend. I'll ask him about the 2 week thing, thanks :D
