Hi folks,
I am Dan, in short, I am a person doing a journalistic, visually driven book project on the road for over a year, three months left. My sweetheart and I met last May while I was working on it in Yosemite National Park. We will have a simple but elegant ceremony there next year. But we are actually going to get married on the 22nd of this month in Vermont, we are very excited, not nervous and could not be happier. She will be out for ten days and we will have a nice little private ceremony for the two of us at a great bed and breakfast in VT.
So I am here in New England now, for a month and I am trying to come up with really fun ideas for our special day. The B&B is pretty simplistic, perhaps too much so for my tastes so I want to add special touches. So the day before I pick my love up from the airport in Boston, I want to drop off said goodies. Rose petals on the bed, in the garden leading to the area for the ceremony, perhaps a mix of beautiful Fall leaves not from the grounds and what ever else I can think of.
So the question is that this is a Fall Elopement in Vermont, I have the chance to do things to make it even more special for us, what ideas might some of you have that I could do?
I have a couple weeks to work it all out, I want to do some really artistic things if I can.
Thanks in advance, Dan

Why not do a journalistic, visually driven short book on your romance as of to date? Something that she can add to for years down the road?
I think rose petals and all are wonderful, but to me personally, I would rather know that my love thought so much of me that he put his memories in writing or pictures.

I am going to do that to a certain degree actually, and we are going to photograph each other on that day using the legendary film that is the namesake of the project. What I am looking for is basically decor that is personalized, from my heart, that makes the scape ours that day.
I am sure I will figure out the other details. As I travel the caressing landscape of Vermont in the days leading up to our day, what is important will come to me. But I am open to ideas as well, hence my posting here.
Thanks,
Dan

First, five points for you for being so sweet and thoughtful! Actually, make that fifty points :)
Some special thinks from my elopement that I'll always cherish:
My cake topper! I'm not touting my website here, I didn't make my topper and it was actually a $20 topper from a Nashville store, right off the shelf.. but it's something I can always have and hold and look at to remind me of my incredible day!
My jewelry. I had beautiful Swarovski pearl wedding jewelry, including a lovely hairpiece and perfect necklace and earrings. I still wear those occasionally and feel so pretty when I do - and again it reminds me of that incredible time with my husband!
Our vows. My husband hand wrote our vows on a torn piece of notebook paper. I will cherish that sliver of paper until the day I die.
Good luck to you, and congratulations!!!

What about making sure she has a fall themed bouquet to carry? There are about a million beautiful ideas on google: http://www.google.com/images?q=fall+wedding+bouquets&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=c9ymTOS4EougsQOutYHdDA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CDMQsAQwAA&biw=1292&bih=1064
I know this doesn't have to do with decor, but what about making sure that you get a buggy/wagon/hayride on one of the nights to take in the ambiance of the area?
I'm not really sure what all your elopement is going to entail, so I'm not really sure what else to suggest.

Thanks for all the pointers folks! I think the main thrust is that I want to find / craft things on my own as I travel that really become relevant to our day. We are real simple, fun loving people who spend hefty in some areas and not in others. The real wedding budget will be for Yosemite next year, this one is reasonable but still frugal.
The cake topper is a good one, I bet I can find something uniquely New England as I venture into shops antique stores. The buggy ride, while nice, I am actually saving that one for Valentines day in snowy Aspen, where I live and she will too.
Things I can craft, things that are incredibly unique to a couple that could spawn ideas for us is what I am after. In the interest of transparency, we don't dislike the wedding industry, we have seen how it has become a financial burden on our friends not to mention stressful so we are going in exactly the opposite direction in doing things simple and in my making things rather than buying them.
Keep em' coming!

Also, to the mods, I am unable to even access my own profile to upload a photo or things like that...any help with this? I know how forums can be, I run one of my own surrounding my project..:-)
As for our elopement details, Sarah arrives at Boston on the 16th. We spend two nights in Boston and then go off and shoot together in Vermont / New Hampshire. Then on the 22nd, we arrive about mid day at the B&B, they will already have set up what ever touches I will have given them the day before Sarah arrives in Boston. We have a simple private ceremony, then champagne and Hor d'ouevres and then finally dinner. We spend a total of three days and nights at the B&B and then she heads back to work as do I.
So we have the main part of our time together leading up to the wedding day. Right now, the touches are super simple, I just want to personalize them a bit because we are the most romantic part of our story.
Best,
Dan

Thus far...
Three Mandolin players were kicking out some great tunes in an antique shop, I hung out for an hour, photographed them, got to know the owner, bonded, great images, great stories. Bought a little antique Mandolin decoration that the owner's father in law had made many years ago, will hang it in the tree next to where we will get married.
Spent a few days at a friend's land in the Green Mountains, 150 acres of a Summer Camp. In the shed was a little table / decoration made out of birch branches, getting dusty, my friend Jed gave it to me, I can put some fun things on it..
Yesterday, walked over the border into Canada / Quebec, saw a picturesque man in a flower shop, I greeted him, photographed him and some really great people there all day. Then he helped me choose a card written in French to give to Sarah on our wedding day. But we soon decide to write the inscription, I think of the prose, the owner writes it in the card, Sarah reads French perfectly, she will be delighted...
This is what I want, not wedding stuff, you can get that anywhere and what does it really mean? I want reality, to go with my unique life, unique wife..
