An amateur baker is going to make my cake. It was going to be a semi-friend, but we ended up factoring in the costs vs. the cost of the amateur vs. the quality of work and we decided to go with the amateur baker.

I had a friend offer to make the cake for us and drive the 7 hours to be there with it and set it up and see us get married. She is a friend I dont see very often either. She came into work one day and we were talking and she offered when she heard I didnt have anything lined up yet.

We had a professional do ours. It was tied into our venue contract. But the woman did amazing work. If you look at the deisgn on the cake, you can see she put hours into it. Plus it tasted delicious as well.

I found out that a business associate also decorates cakes and so we met, discussed the cake, she brought pictures and I "hired" her. That said, when she called tonight, she asked me when I wanted to get together to make teh butterflies .... so I guess I am helping to make my cake too! :bbeek:

I put that a professional baker is making mine. I think this is the way we're going... we're not sure yet.

I clicked "professional", however, my best friend is a pastry chef at a country club and offered to do our cake - in fact, she was disapointed when we didn't ask her originally. Joe and I decided that since it is so much work to do a cake, we didn't want to burden her with the work - she volunteered. I'm so excited - she does absolutely stunning work. We've been arguing for a month now to pay her - I wouldn't dream of her doing that work for nothing.

She did a great job...I have pics of her making it I should post them some of the expressions on her face were priceless...she worked on it until 230 AM the day of the wedding and then came back that morning and took it to the church and set it up, all while dealing with herself, her husband, 3 kids and a fiancee of her one son! Thanks, I'm sure she'll see this, her and my niece check for updates regularly lol!
