So, I can google "Stay at home mom jobs" or something similar and come up with a zillion, I mean TONS of different sites promoting "work from home mom" jobs. However, 95% of them I believe are a load of bull, so I'm wondering what ideas ya'll have to share for a successful SAHM job.

A few I've considered:

Daycare (not sure my house would pass inspection)
Typing/Data entry (I can type upwards of 120 wpm when I'm not being lazy)
Ebaying (in this economy, it's far from reliable though)
Crafts/Etsy & Ebaying them (but what??)

So, what are some valid and probable work from home jobs? I'd love to hear what you ladies have to say about this!

Some places look for book keepers that work from their own home.

I've also heard of someone working from a call centre but they worked from their own home.

The ones you listed are all good ideas too!

My company allows me to work at home one day a week. Most people in the company can do it two days, but the division that I am in restricts it to only one day. Would your current company allow you to work a day or two at home? However with that said, I still need childcare for the day I work from home because I am still expected to go to conference meetings and take phone calls. But it's nice that I can throw some laundry in and start dinner in between projects.

I love the bookkeeping idea, or data entry. That would be more my style than opening a daycare. Besides, a daycare is not really (IMO) a reliable income source and I have a mortgage/car payment to make.

I am going to talk to my company about giving me remote access. In my specific job, I really don't have to talk to anyone, don't have to see anyone face to face, I just bury myself in my computers and get to it. 99% of our communication is via email anyway so it wouldn't hurt for me to do it from home. I think one of the big concerns is honesty on the timecard though.

I think they should just make me salary and as long as I get my workload finished, it shouldn't matter what hours I work lol.

I have considered working at home in the past and tried finding jobs that weren't scams. I found it helpful to browse SAHM forums to help weed out the scams. My faves were www.workplacelikehome.com (http://www.workplacelikehome.com) and www.wahm.com (http://www.wahm.com). I've never been lucky enough to find a data entry job. The data entry jobs are few and far between with so many people applying for the jobs.

It would be awesome if your work would let you work remotely!!!

I'd love to have some sort of artistic skill so I could make things and sell on etsy. But I can't do anything crafty really. Especially not anything that I could sell enough off to make a living from.

I had a summer that I was transcribing interviews, and that was a "wherever you do it" sort of job. Are there any research firms that do qualitative stuff near you?

I work from home doing my graphic design...but it's the kind of thing you'd need to invest in upfront - both with the software that you'd need, and with building a portfolio and marketing yourself. There are a lot of online certificate programs out there that would help you learn how to do it, but they usually take a year or so to complete.

A few years ago Patrick's mom was looking into court report transcription as a possible way to work from home. There is a specific name for the kind of transcription she was going to do - basically going through an existing transcription and checking it for errors.

I know there are lots of possibilities out there - hopefully you find the perfect fit!

Medical transcription is also an idea. It sounds like you have to go to school for that though and from what I've read you have to be careful that you take the courses from an actual accredited school...there are a lot of scams out there!
