View Full Version : My Someday Journal...Hoping for a Birthday Proposal 10/18/06

Hi there! I am natasha, and this will be my planning journal! I am in love with a man named Bert, and we have two beautiful children, Ethan and Kelly. there is a lot of drama and confusion with our kids, so I will save that for another post.
So, I am not "officially" engaged. We were, we broke up, and now we are slowing building back to the engaged point. We rushed into things the first time, and we want to do it right this time. Before, there was no real proposal, and the ring was not what either of us envisioned for my engagement ring. He wants to do it right, I want to do it right. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a proposal on my birthday, or maybe Christmas or New Years.
I do have alot of ideas for the wedding, though, and need a place to keep them all. I know for sure our colors will be aqua, tangerine, and brown. I actually already have my dress, from our previous engagement. I also know we will be having a beach wedding, sometime between June and October of 2008.

Hi guys, and thanks! It's just weird to go from being engaged, to single, to waiting for a proposal...

Hi guys, and thanks! It's just weird to go from being engaged, to single, to waiting for a proposal...
You're fine... all that matters is that you are with the man that you love. It doesnt matter how you got there or what happened to get you in this place... you are there and can look towards the future with him. Once I applied this logic to myself (and it was difficult), I was able to let go of our rocky past and look towards the future.

I hope you get your real proposal really soon! It will probably happen when you least expect it. The weekly theme for week number 2 was a beach theme. (We have a weekly theme each week if you're wondering.) Here is the link to that thread. There are so many great ideas there if you want to take a look at it.

So, the one thing that is set in stone is my dress. I bought it months ago! Here is it:

It is a Justin Alexander, and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it!

Ok, so these are the ideas I am mulling over at the moment.
The wedding will be in 2008 (I hope). Possible dates:
06/08/07
07/14/07
09/08/07
09/16/07
05/03/08
06/07/08
08/08/08
08/16/08
The ceremony will take place on a beach in Pacifica, and the reception to follow at Nick's Restaurant right next to the beach. I think 07/14/07 or 09/08/07 will be the winner, but they are less than a year away!
For flowers, I really dig spider gerbera daisies.
http://www.dotflowers.com/imageslarge/largeimages/products/product_2140.jpg
I think the groom and groomsmen will wear tan/khaki suits, and the bridesmaids will hopefully wear tea length dresses.
Those are the almost for sure ideas I have so far.

This was the case for us. Hugh and I were almost engaged from the moment we first got together and we would have married right away if it weren't for waiting on paperwork to be finalized. 5 years later and our day is almost here - I can hardly believe it!
Welcome!

Thanks everyone!
So, we went to Bert's godbrothers wedding this last Saturday, and their first dance was to OUR song (Such Great heights). We were really bummed, but tonight we picked a new first dance song.
I'll be Loving You Forever
New Kids On The Block
Yeah
I'm not that kind of guy who can take a broken heart
So don't ever leave
I don't want to see us part
The very thought of losing you means
That everything
Would go down under
Chorus:
I'll be loving you forever
Just as long as you want me to be
I'll be loving you forever
All this love's for you and me, yeah
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving you
(The things you do)
Yeah, it's forever
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving you, yeah
I count the blessings that keep our love new
There's one for me
And a million for you
There's just so much that I want to say
But when I look at you
All my thoughts get in the way
Chorus
We've learned to fall to every turn by now
This love will last forever
I can see it all now
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving you
(The things you do)
Yeah, it's forever
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving only you, girl
Oh girl
I'll be loving only you
(I'll be loving you)
(I'll be loving you)
Be loving you girl
This song is so perfect for us. The lyrics are great, and it is so cheesy and old school. So us! We're very excited!

Your dress is beautiful and you look great in it!!! As for storing it...it should be fine in a closet, as long as you leave it in the bag. I mean you are gonna have to have it cleaned and pressed before your wedding anyways, so it doesn't need to be hanging up and out of the bag. I would just make sure that any pets, kids, moths, or cigarette smoke can't get near it!!! Anyways...that's enough out of me..lol!!!

A late welcome to you girl! The dress looks gorgreous on you. I just wanna say, be patient. I was a someday girl too, had a surprise birthday engagment because he wanted it right (his first mariage was due to preg) and it was a fairy tale. He will ask when he is ready, and when you do finally walk down the isle, you will be one beautiful bride!!

Hey Heather! Like I said, we were engaged until about 3 months ago. The whole thing is sort of weird and awkward, but I know i am going to marry him, I love him, and he wants to marry me. He also want's to "officially" propose, since last time he just gave me a ring as a Christmas present...

it is so hard to be patient! i know, if I wanted to, I coud just tell Bert we should skip the new ring, and proposal part and just go right back to being engaged. I know, however, that this is a bad idea, and we need time to reaclimate and whatnot, blah blah blah. And, we both really want to do it right this time, even though I am impatient as all hell... I need to take a chill pill. The next few months will fly by, and we will feel good knowing we did things the "right" way, and the way that will ultimately make us happiest. I just wish I was more patient...

It'll come. I know how hard it is waiting. It seems like just yesterday when I was hoping and waiting. About a year ago, on my b-day, I was hoping for a ring. He had told me the year before that he was going to purpose then, but did not have the money for a ring. So another year went by and I thought I would get it on that b-day. I did not and I cried and cried. I did get it on December 23, 2005 and we will get married on December 30, 2006!

Hey Kacie_bride. I know it will come. I guess the hardest part for me is I could tell him "scrap the proposal, let's just get married", and he'd agree. We both want a proposal this time around, so I need to just calm down!

I learned that once I calmed down about it, it was really easy to focus. I really wanted a christmas proposal and i knew he had the ring... it sucked knowing it was going to happen and soon. I just let it go and when it happend I was surprised. I cried one night because I thought he was going to propose and I was expecting it... it was so great not expecting it because I was truely surprised.
I know calming down is easier said than done. I had to let go of wedding related things because it made me think about it. I belonged to message boards and things like that and it really made it hard for me because I would hear about newly engaged couples and it made me jealous and made waiting that much harder.
Have faith that it will happen and dont think too much about it... When you start thinking about it, channel your thoughts into something you have to do thats NWR. It helps and I got a lot of things done with school and work that way.

I was the same way you were too. Cody and I had been dating since March of 2002 and we were pretty solid at around five months after that. Around the time of Christmas of 2004, I was really getting my hopes up that he'd propose. Then I thought he'd do it before summer was over, then that summer came and went. Then the next Christmas came and went as did most of the summer. I just had to be patient and not bother him about it all of the time (although I still did sometimes). So just hang in there!
Natasha
08-16-2006, 12:54 AM
Hi SoontobeMrsClark07 and Chelsea! I think the hardest part of calming down is that Bert is as excited as I am. He encourages my wedding habit! LOL Yeah, so as if I wasn't wedding obsessed as it is, I apparently signed up for free subscriptions to Brides and Modern Bride magazine that have JUST started coming. Jeez, people, I am supposed to be single! I am so wedding minded right now.
