I'm helping my friend put together the holiday issue of her wedding magazine and here is one of the little articles I wrote for her ...
Having your wedding around the winter holiday season means you can draw inspiration from the traditions associated with the this time of year. You will want to give favors that reflect your holiday theme. You might give ornaments as favors (crosses, snowflakes, etc) ... maybe even with your names and wedding date on them. (check out www.Modern-Faith.com for engraved crosses)
You could have your florist design your centerpieces like miniature trees and hang the ornaments on the centerpiece trees. Or as an alternative to the miniature tree centerpieces, just decorate one table with a tree-like arrangement to hang all your ornament favors on for your guests to take one. Holiday candies, cookies and hot chocolate also make good favors for a winter wedding. You could even have these small treats wrapped like tiny presents.
Then you can use holly and poinsettias as accent decorations, and using place cards tied to candy canes for the tables is another great idea to tie in the theme. Use wreaths on the doors, ivy on the stairs, and don't forget to hang mistletoe in all the doorways!
