All the decorations look great! Our deer season opened last weekend. I don't think I'll have time to hunt this year. Oh well. Justin has already shot 2 deers during bow season and our roommate shot one during bow season too. Neither one of them got anything last weekend.

Ellen,

Your tree is beautiful! Don't think it's too soon to put it up...lol....I'm putting mine up soon too!! lol. Now if I put it up before Canadian Thanksgiving that'd be TOO SOON! (It's before hallowe'en!! lol) Hope all is well with you. New computer here so no more freezing up on me!! Love ya Sista!

Deer season opened Saturday here (11/11) and Eric and I were on our way to the woods at 5AM...around 230PM I shot my first buck....it field dressed at 135 lbs and we took it to be processed into jerky, summer sausage, steaks and ground meat (for burgers). The taxidermist is going to mount the head on a new style of mounting core and put a special plate under it that is really nice because it's my first...

CAUTION: GRAPHIC PIC OF DEAD DEER BELOW...
Please be informed that this is my journal and hunting is a part of my married life...if you do not share my views then I strongly suggest you don't look and don't post negatively in MY JOURNAL...thanks!

Thanks! It wasn't the best but for my first I was happy...I now know what "deer fever" is...I never felt or heard the gun go off and I was so pumped afterward that I was shaking!

My BIL got one Sunday and Eric is trying for his so...we should have plenty of meat.

Where did you end up hitting it? In the head? Just wondering. Lol. Nice one Ellen! I would love to go deer hunting (I'm fully licensed and own my own gun and everything!) but I'm just too scared to shoot a deer. I think I'd probably end up making noise to scare it away!! lol. But nice one Hun!!

I can only shoot varmints like Gophers and the like.

StaceyMc

YEAH ELLEN! Congrats girl!!

Joe had a sad face the other day when he put the bow into storage - no deer this bow season - but, rifle season is right around the corner!!

WOO HOO again girly!!!

Us too! Our roommate has shot 2 so far, both with the bow. We have lots of meat too. On top of that my brother won a goat in a raffle and that meat should be getting back from the processor pretty soon. He is splitting it with us. I don't know where we are going to put all of this meat!

Yeah I hit it in the head...not the most desirable spot (heart shot is the best). Thanks!

Lol Knowing my luck I would hit it in the butt or something because I'm not the greatest shot under pressure! Matt is the king I swear! We went Gopher hunting with our buddy Brennan, Matt shot like a 120 +, Brennan got about 30-40 and I had like 10! lol. But then Matt has a 17 hmr which is a really nice rifle with a scope (lever action) and I only have a 22 Magnum Savage Bolt action which doesn't really compare to Matt's rifle. We just bought ourselves a 22 Semi Auto and I still have yet to get used to it...it's just not like my Magnum!! lol.

We'd have to purchase completely different guns for hunting! And god, the amount we've spent on our guns so far and they're sitting back at the farm doing nothing! *sigh*

I really would love to go hunting though...maybe duck hunting. i don't think I'd have a problem shooting a duck! lol.

Nice buck! Steve is into hunting and can't wait for the season to start here (monday after thanksgiving). Congrats on the deer! :whoohoo: I am very happy for you! I was surprised to see how the flash reflected off it's eyes, making them glow. I did a double take, like are you sure it's dead? LOL Great pics though, they are my very first glimpses of hunting.

I am so proud of you, I wouldn't be able to sit still out in the woods and I am so scared to run around in camo in close proximity to people carrying guns, prepared to shoot.

Thanks! I don't sit still very well either, much to my husbands dismay. I had to get down and go pee and then I got hungry and had to have a snack and then I got bored and started fidgeting....I probably would have gotten a much bigger deer but I saw antlers and knew that if I got him then I was good until next year LMAO! As for the camo and close proximity....we hunt on his dad's farm 210 private acres that are highly posted...we wear orange anytime we are on the ground just to be safe.

I wanted to share this....Eric and I live about an hour away from Nashville, TN and this weekend we are going to the Opry Land Hotel to look at the light displays (which are AMAZING) and to see "ICE!"

Here's the link so that you can see what I'm talking about, it's pretty cool...Logan and Hunter will love it and so will us big kids!

Me, Eric, his sister and her family and his parents are going....his dad is hilarious so all of us together should be a lots of fun!

http://nashville.about.com/od/photogallery/ig/Nashville-s-Winter-Wonderland/index.htm

All of the displays are made of ice by professional Chinese sculptors who come to Nashville about a month early and start working on it....I think it's pretty neat!

Oh geesh guys I'm sorry....BREATHE TRESIA BREATHE!

We went it was OK...I felt bad, it was freezing and Me, Eric, his Mom, his Dad, his Sister, her hubby, the boys and her hubby's grandparents (visiting from GA), plus 2 friends from Lousiville and their two twin boys was well....claustrophobic. 4 seperate vehicles trying to stay together at Opry Mills on a Saturday night was AWFUL! The ICE show was pretty but once you see it it's over and then you had to fight the Nashville crowds....we ate at McDonald's (blech) because it was getting late and to get a table for 14 people was going to be horrific at a nicer restaurant. It was nice, I smiled and tried to stay pleasant but went to sleep in Eric's arms on the way home...

I didn't get any pics on my digital camera because honestly by the time we got there and had to stand in that line I didn't feel much like smiling or posing!

BriansBride07

Glad to hear that the show was a great turn out. I hate waiting in lines too. But Im sure it was worth it in the end.

It was more a display in a large building set to below freezing temperatures (to keep the displays frozen) and you walked through it at your own pace...some people were pushy others WOULD NOT MOVE.... the children that parents refused to discipline were annoying and distracting. Kinda hard to be jolly and festive when "Little Jimmy" is S C R E A M I N G...."NOOOOOOO, I wanna eat/pee/go home NOW"! :whyme:

Don't you just love other people's children?

Joe and I have almost given up going out to dinner. No matter where we go, the family with the tiny terrors sits near us and we listen to their child(ren) screaming, yelling and watch them run around tables. Heck, I can eat in peace at home and only deal with the cats snoozing in their baskets. We love kids, but not tiny terrors!!

I know! We go shopping and I get so mad over the kids who are allowed to run wild and rudely cut in front of you and run all over the place like wild animals...screaming and yelling...makes me wonder what they act like at home if this is their public behavior  !

Just an update...we had our first Dr appt today and our little one looks like a bean with arm and leg buds...the heartbeat was racing and the Dr says all is good...I am 8 wks pregnant and my EDD is 7/31/07. I didn't get an US pic just got to see it on the US but I go back in two weeks for a pelvic exam and follow up on all the tests today (normal procedures) and he said the 2wks growth at this stage will be a BIG change so I should have a pic then...

Hey, El! I was watching the news this morning and they said the Wolf Creek Dam was in danger of breaking. How close it that to you??

cowboysbride
01-24-2007, 08:30 AM
Good Lord Holly! That scared the sh*t out of me....I looked it up and this is what the Nashville paper says....evidently cities beneath the dam could be in danger but not us...however my parents live beneath the dam....thanks for letting me know!

Built more than 50 years ago, the Wolf Creek Dam is in danger. On Monday, the Army Corps of Engineers deems it a dam at high risk of structural failure . (http://www.outdoorstn.com/)

The dam holds back 101 miles of the Cumberland River, near Jamestown in south central Kentucky. Now, the dam is weakening and immediate action is being taken to stop what could be a catastrophic flood.

The Wolf Creek Dam is located on the Cumberland River 190 miles up stream from Nashville. The dam has had problems for more than a year and last year, officials determined repairs would need to be made to the dam because of leaks in and around it....

...

The water level was dropped and more testing was done on the dam. It is the results of those tests that caused officials to put the dam at high risk of failure.

Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Steve Roemhildt said, “We are not seeing conditions at the dam that eminent failure is possible, however there are things happening at the dam that we just don't know about.”

The dam is located in southern Kentucky and is the largest reservoir east of the Mississippi. Officials have already dropped the water level and Monday decided more water should be released from the dam to relieve pressure. They plan to drop the lake level another10 feet in an effort to take pressure off the dam. The water level is expected to remain at that level for at least the next year.

The Army Corps of Engineers hopes to award a contract for $300 million for a permanent repair. It has also started emergency repairs in order to help stop the leaks.

“We have initiated an emergency grouting program where we will pump in a lean concrete into the dam to fill the voids left by the on going erosion.”

Officials said even though the risk is high, there is no sign of an imminent failure. They said if the dam were to have a catastrophic failure, people along the Cumberland fromKentucky all the way through Middle Tennessee should be aware of what could happen and what steps to take to protect their homes.

Roemhildt said, “I want to caution everyone to be very familiar with the situation, be familiar with emergency planning and evacuation procedures.”

If the Wolf Creek Dam were to break, starting 101 miles up the Cumberland River in Jamestown, the town of Celina would likely be flooded first. Then, water would flow downstream toward Carthage and Old Hickory Lake impacting the towns of Gallatin, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet and Old Hickory before flooding downtown Nashville's riverfront area, all the wayup to Fourth Avenue, by many estimates.

Emergency grouting is already underway, to keep the dam out of immediate harm's way.

Tennessee and Kentucky are practically built on limestone. The dam has a concrete core that was built on top of existing limestone. On top of the concrete core is Earth. The dam itself is fine.

The problem is, water is seeping under the dam and eroding the limestone. Crews are plugging the holes with grout and hope it will counter the erosion until a permanent repair is made.

The Army Corps of Engineers said failure of the dam is not imminent, but the situation is seriousenough to put the Wolf Creek Dam at the top of the Corps' highest risk dams list. For more information and to comment on this story, visit www.outdoorstn.com (http://www.outdoorstn.com/).

Eric and I went furniture shopping yesterday after church! We went to about 5 different furniture stores and found what we wanted in the 3rd (we kept going just in case we could find a better deal)! We found a HUGE sectional sofa in microfiber suede (it feels so luxurious). It has 2 recliners on one end and a queen size sleeper on the other side. It comes in 3 pieces and we love it! I wish I could find a pic of it on the Haverty's web site but they don't have it listed. It's 224 total inches in length and matches my western pillows and rug perfectly!

We also found a Tempurpedic queen size mattress set that we are getting for our bedroom ...I used to laugh at the commercials until I laid down on one yesterday. Talk about COMFY (especially with me having to sleep on my side).

I am so excited! We have a budget for the furniture and appliances and it's so much fun to walk thru and pick out our new stuff for the new house!

Congratulations on the married life AND the new bundle of joy heading your way! That's awesome. Just wanted to say I am a Kentucky girl myself and will be marrying my Kentucky man this September. I love the pictures of your wedding and your gown is very similar to mine. I even printed out a picture of you with your hairstyle to give to my mom (she's a hairdresser) because I LOVE your wedding hair, too and I'd like mine to be similar to yours.

Anyway, thank you for sharing your happy moments in life. God bless you and your new family!

Thanks! Where in Ky are you from? I'm in Bowling Green. I love to hear people liked my dress and hair...I got my dress at Bridal Warehouse in Elizabethtown and my hair was done at Regina Webb Salon and Day Spa. Good luck on your September wedding (my birthday is 9/2)! God bless you too!

Wow...a true local! Well, almost. I live in Morgantown. I work in Bowling Green, though. I got my gown in Elizabethtown too, but it was at Laurene's. My mom and I looked at Bridal Warehouse but the day we were there it was sooooo crazy and every dressing room was full. Plus it was prom season and all the giddy high school girls were there, too. I had already tried on "the one" at Laurene's so I looked at my mom and said let's go back and get it! So I did. BW had some gorgeous gowns though and I would have liked to of tried some on, but it's was just too busy. I used to live in Bowling Green (my dad is originally from BG) a few years back before we moved to Nashville and then back to KY. But here I am in Butler county preparing to marry the man of my dreams!

Thanks for sharing your wedding story and your life as a newlywed! You two seem very sweet and very much in love.

WOW! It really is a small world! We have some friends from Morgantown!

I work in BG too, I actually live in Rockfield. I moved to BG in 2005 when I met my Ky man of my dreams lol!

Have a great wedding!

Hmmmm...if you went to Rockfield Elem in the early 80's (that's where my son will go!!!) you probably went to school with my husband and his sister! We live about 5 minutes or less from the school.

Eric Vinson or Dianna Vinson? If you know anything about Rockfield it's covered with Vinsons lol!

This is too cool!

I remember a Dianna Vinson! It didn't strike me at first but I remember now! I think she was a year or two ahead of me! Whoa...that's a person I haven't thought of in YEARS. We were not friends, she was someone I simply knew from the school. My last name was Key at the time. I went to Rockfield from 1983 to 1989(kindergarten-fifth grade). I had Miss Murphey my last year there for 5th grade. Let's see....Murphy, Ms. Sheeley. We lived out off Blue Level road which is right off 68/80...I'm sure you've at least heard of that. You don't have to tell me where you live....but that's the area I'm most familiar with. We also used to go to Providence Knob baptist church that sits up there on the hill by the caution light. Bro. Joe Causey is the preacher and he was the preacher who conducted my first marriage. My dad has cousins/uncles, aunts, etc who's last name is Wimpee. There are several out in the Rockfield area. His cousin just past away. He was attacked by a cow and it parazlyzed him and he died shortly after that. It was so sad. It happened out there in Rockfield on his farm.

Anyway, small, small world. That's great your son will be going there! I'll never forget my kindergarten teacher, Mary Ellen Krohn. She was sooooo nice to me. I think she's still there. It was a good school from what I remember.

Dianna is married and has 3 kids...2 boys 4 and 8 and a little girl...6 mo's.

We live on Fuqua Rd...Eric used to live on Blue Level with the ex...the "caution light" on 68/80 is now a stop light! I go by Joe's church (Prov. Knob) every day! We were going to have our wedding there but the front area was too small for the large wedding party we had.

We know the Wimpee's...Eric's parents knew them really well and Eric knows their son. We will probably be going to the viewing/funeral. It really has saddened our family to learn of his passing, they announced it at church Sunday night and Eric just slumped forward in his seat...I am so sorry for your family's loss.

I am so happy to see you on this board and if I can help you in any way let me know!:p

Thank you. My mom and dad are going to the funeral today. I have to work. I didn't know him well at all but would have liked to of gone for my dad.

Thanks for offering your help! It's so awesome to have someone local to ask for advice. I might take you up on that offer sometime. I seem to have questions running through my mind every day about the wedding. :)

If you're looking for a good photographer (and like my wedding/engagment pics) I can give you her name and number. She's great to work with and her prices aren't too bad...

I got most of my stuff (decorations) from Hobby Lobby and Trees -n- Trends. We did alot of DIY!

Anytime I can help just let me know.

We weren't aware that the funeral was today, Eric and I both will miss it due to us working.

Sorry you missed the funeral....I heard that with any kind of trauma death, such as this, Vanderbilt requires an autopsy and he passed away on Saturday and they don't do autopsys on weekends. Anyway, I'm sure it was difficult to know what and when to plan the funeral.

I have been to Hobby Lobby a couple of times but I haven't been to Trees-n-Trends yet. I've already got a photographer...I already know her personally so it makes it a bit more comfortable for me that way. Thank you for offering though! Just curious though, who did your pictures? Julia Christopher Photography is doing mine. There is a new girl in Morgantown who is doing my flowers so she's cutting me a deal. I'm really just kind of at a loss for wedding favors. I'm looking for something economical.

Sheila Cherry of Alvaton did our photography.

As for the favors I have tons of ideas! My sister made cookies for us and I got the mini candy bars and ordered labels off of ebay that were personalized. I had kissing bells (from Wal-Mart) and hmmmmmmmmm I think that was it. My MIL did my floral arrangements at the church and the reception hall and I made all the bouquets and bouts myself.

Any certain "theme" or colors you want to incorporate? I'd be happy to toss some ideas your way.

Mine was western as you could see so the black cowboy hats and red roses sort of ruled the day!

Thank you Nicksbride and congrats on your recent marriage!!!!!! That's so awesome. Do you have any pictures posted yet?

Well, let's see. I'm using a deep red (not burgundy) color, like a velvet red color, white and accents of silver. I've heard of the kissing bells....I like that idea. That's cute. Did you like it on your wedding day, Mrs Vinson? Sorry! I don't know your first name! :)

My flowers will be red roses. I have rose garlands to use for decor but still not quite sure where I'll put them. We are getting married in a church and the reception is also at the church in the fellowship hall. I'm stuck between polishing my nails red or getting a french manicure. I was thinking if I polish them red and they chip a little, it will be much more noticable than if I were to get a french manicure. Crazy to stress over that! I love chocolates too, and the personalized wrappers are things I've thought about, but just not sure. They are kind of pricey int he catalogues. I haven't looked on ebay yet. Great idea!

OMG! Your colors sound like mine (or close to them) I have flowers, garlands, candle rings, candles and other stuff left over if you're interested....see my wedding journal for the pics.....

I wrapped 2 garlands ea on my spiral towers (behind the alter) and then 3 garlands on the arch above the entry way to the sanctuary (so i passd under it as I came down the isle)

I also ordered pew bows on line (I have those too if you're interested) and had the first 3 pews on either side up front decorated...they just slid right over the pew and were really pretty!

All of this stuff was taken down immediately following the ceremony and put into plastic bins so it's like new...

I polished my toenails red and almost got a french manicure but I broke some nails before the wedding when I moved so I didn't. I think you're on the right track about the french mani on the nails. I stressed about about my nails, my eyeliner and my mascara the day of the wedding (I thought I had spidery leg looking lashes) LMAO!

The kissing bells were wonderful, Eric and I are mushy anyway and once people read the note attached to the bells (at the reception) they were ringing them an awful lot...it was fun...everyone got in on it and pretty soon we had smoochers all over the place!

The wrappers can be found on e-bay C H E A P! I think i paid 8.00 for 100...Also if you are doing programs you can buy those on ebay and print them yourself really easy...

Let me know if you want to look at what I have and while we're moving next week I'll be sure and set it all to the side so you can look at it, we could meet at the Crossroads IGA on 68/80 (across from Rockfield Elem)...and if you like what I have I'll price it to you really cheaply!

Hey Ellen. I really enjoyed looking through the wedding journal last night. That was cool. I looked as much a I could. My kids were kinda running around like crazy so I looked as much as I could. I didn't notice any pictures of the pew bows, though. That is something I'm really interested in. Would you mind sending a picture of them? Or if they are already posted somewhere, just let me know. Your DYI stuff was awesome! I don't know a thing about makin' a thing. I thought I'd try to make pew bows but I don't know how and the ones already made are really pretty but they are so expensive! so yes...very interested in those and maybe some additional rose stuff you may have for sale. Thank you so much!!!

That ended on 9/17..I've been back at work, resigned and start my new job on 10/29! But yes...being at home with him was HEAVEN (once I was able to function lol!) When I pick him up from the Nanny's of an evening he usually has a goofy lopsided grin for me and some drool...I fall in love all over again (and no...I'm not talking about Eric ROFL), although he does tend to drool every once in a while!

Yes this job is making a witch out of me (imagine ME getting worse than I already am LOL!) Eric and I decided that a less stressful and less responsibility would be key for me now that little man is here...

LMAO at "Duh Katy"

I kiss and hug on him all the time...bathtime is the worst because his little naked butt and those baby fat rolls KILL ME...Eric says he's going to get a chapped face from all my "slobbery kisses" LOL! To which I responded that he never seems to care when I "slobber" on him so he could just HUSH!

hahahaha those little baby fat rolls, I used to call my goddaughter "Jumbo Baby" Because she had soo many fat rolls on her legs and arms.. hahaha. I had to bathe those as they got milk and food in there.. DOn't ask me why, they were sooo rolly polly.
Chapped face, muhahaha. Well, when he is older and goes "MOMMMM stop kissing me" You will be glad your baby had a chapped face. Get those kisses in now!
