Is it beneficial to use a consultant? I am not sure what I am doing and would appreciate the help of someone else. Has anyone else used one and is it a huge added expense to use one?

Any replies would be helpful

i am only 19 years old, but i worked in a wedding store (davids bridal) for 3 years. i know ALOT about weddings and have dealt with every type of bride possible. women that came in with a consultant seemed stressed. once you give the duty to another person, they control everything, even the color and number of sequens on your dress. you wont have any say in your wedding. i suggest just asking around to married people for advice, and buying wedding books. it will save you money in the long run and you will have the wedding of your dreams.

Well, a consultant can be beneficial. (And I'm not just saying that because I'm studying to be one. I actually have a consultant helping me with my wedding, and it is helping. You just say what level of help you want. I personally, want to do things myself, but having someone with the experience of doing this is helping majorly. A consultant can help you find the best prices, most beautiful place, and the most beautiful dress.

As a bridal consultant I can tell you that a good bridal consultant will do as little or as much as the bride wants done. If you are unsure of things, go to your consultant for advice but always remember your word is gold. You do not have to do everything the bridal consultant says. You can always say that's a good idea but I really wanted to stick with doing whatever. A good consultant will respect your word. If you feel that your consultant is overtaking your wedding, just remember "Whose Wedding is it Anyway". It's your day, she's there to help keep you stress free, not add on stress.

I hope this gives you an idea of what to look for in a bridal consultant.

I agree wholeheartedly with the replies above about the benefits of hiring a consultant! Brides often forget that THEY have the say about all of their wedding decisions! From a photographer's point of view let me add that it can actually show in your pictures the difference between having done all the leg work yourself as apposed to having someone else relieve those headaches for you! If a consultant is not within your budget there are other ways to make your day just as special. Find a friend or relative that knows a little about weddings or at least is a good organizer! The more legwork you can have someone else do will take the burden off of you! A good photographer will work harmoniously with the DJ before hand so they clue each other during the wedding to make sure all the photos are taken at the correct times without holding up guests, etc. It's all about "delegations"! You can do it! And remember....when it comes to weddings (even "traditional" ones) be unique and as creative and you want! You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a gorgeous wedding...many weddings I have done have been spectacular with a budget of $1,000 (which included the dress!). Have a happy wedding and GOD BLESS! Mary
