This is totally last minute and rather a surprise, but because of military service must be done in a month.

We ordered the dress, and invites. That was easy. Thats as far as I seem to be able to get. I haven't even selected a ring yet! It's a small affair, 30 guest. We met on and live on a tropical island in Asia, however are in the states to get married for our families. I brought shells back from our local beaches that I'd like to incorporate some how.

The venue is my families back yard. My parents were married here years ago, it's small but a perfect location.

I'm supposed to be "handling" all the details, with his imput via phone and internet (he's in a military school right now, not boot camp lol we're old folks). And I'm not sure what all I need to do. What sort of food do you serve at a semi beachy theme wedding? We LOVE seafood, but I know that's hit and miss with others. Would it be rude or weird for the bride and groom to have their own lobsters? Is that just terrible?

Anyone wanna push me in the right direction? Wedding is Sept 4th 2010

It is not impossible but it will be a little adventure.

Think one stop shops for things. Discount like Target, Walmart. I like Rexcraft for certain items.

Then for your vendors like a photography, ask who else do they know that they have worked with. Go on your local wedding sites and ask the brides what vendors they have used.

Oriental Trading has lots of things for a beach wedding.

The main thing: marriage lience, officiant, dress, food, drink, cake, photography. The rest, you can simplify.

:welcome2: and congrats to you on the big day!

I think, so long as you've got something tasty and delicious for the guests, it would be okay if the bride and groom had lobster. I think you're right - not everyone is into seafood - but I think you can still have beach themed food without it - think about Hawaiian luaus - there's a lot of pork, pineapple, some sort of beautiful citrus salad. Shrimp is usually a seafood that pleases most, if not everyone.
If you're doing it in your parents back yard you do have the option of a cook out, if you wanted, which could save you some money.

:goodluck: Look forward to hearing more about your planning.

Well we decided on a menu for catering today. Because we're doing the ceremony and reception in the yard it's a bit tricky with timing but they seem to be very used to this sort of things and are working out a set up, serve schedule that won't interupt things. We're honeymooning in Vegas so I guess we'll get our lobster dinner then lol.

For small back yards, whats the drink standard? Do I need a bartender, or hmmm? Any idea's on that.

Glad you got it worked out. :ura1:

I think the bartender situation is up to you - I probably would have someone do it, just to keep an eye on the situation and to keep everything orderly, but if it's not in your budget then you can make do without.

Yay for Vegas. My favorite place.

Got the tables, chairs, linens, china, flatware, glassware ordered this afternoon, along with all the flowers (white Lillys everywhere!), and the cake! Very busy productive day. The flower shop had a variety of "dog" floral accessories. They almost had me talked into it LOL. My dog and I are close, but not THAT close! I think I'll have her in a doggie day care for the day.

I went with 4 tables seating eight, and baby blue table clothes. The lilys are white, and there will be beach sand, and sea shells scattered about. Each guest will take home a miniture pair of ceramic Shi-Shi dogs we imported from our little island. Since most who haven't traveled to Japan are not familiar with Shi Shi's and all, I need to figure out a creative way to tell their "story" in the packaging of the figurines..

My MOH through out the idea of a margarita machine. Tasty for sure, but anyone have any thoughts on that, especially negative ones?

Phew, you definitely accomplished more than i have this whole week combined.
I like your table setting them and your wedding favor idea, it's a lovely keepsake, you could always attach a little card with a summary of the story.
As for the margarita machine, i wish i could help you there, but i don't drink alcohol, but i think the problem with one would be that some guests might end up helping themselves a little too much. That's about all i could think of.

I spent the entire day hunting for a make-up artist and hairstylist. I think i may have found someone who'll do both, which is a relief for me, because my wedding ceremony will be in another town about 30 minutes away from me. I'm in the same boat, my wedding is over a month away and i still have so much to get through:petrified:.

Now lets see, i have to:

Start on my D.I.Y. centerpieces

Spray paint my wedding favor jewelery boxes with gold paint.

Buy Gold foiled Jordan Almonds and Chocolate Hearts

Organize my wedding cake, which will be a semi - D.I.Y

Pack my things, so that i won't have to do it last minute and finally get the F.H. to pick em up. (I hope he's cleared up some closet and shoe rack space for me)

Print out Favor labels or tags

Design and print programs

Find myself a Gold clutch purse, i never thought that would have been so difficult:sweatdrop:, or maybe i'm just fussy. oooh can't forget find a pearl necklace and earrings to match my gown.

Lingerie shopping and miscellaneous items

Find petals, baskets, fabric and ribbon for my D.I.Y flower girl baskets.

Ok, my head is spinning, "It will be done, it will be done, it will be done!".. chanting my new mantra:winktongue:.

By the way, Congratulations! (forgot to add that in my previous post) I love beach themed weddings because it reminds me of my island life. I don't see why you and your FH can't have your own lobsters, it's your big day, you can celebrate it by eating whatever you want to. Sea food such as shrimp, scallops, crab, lobster and fish are great options and not that difficult to serve. If you're concerned about guests who might not really be into seafood, you could also have cuts of Beef or chicken, cold meats..e.t.c..As for the shells, you could use them to accessorize your cake or guestbook table, if you're having one. That way you'll get to incorporate a little of your history in your theme.
Sounds to me like you're already on a roll, good luck!

that is so exciting. There is something extremely romantic about surprise weddings. I really don't think having your own food choice isn't too bad, I have a food allergy and well probably will be eating differently from everyone else anyway.

The details depends on just how intricate you want to get with everything. I enjoyed reading your list, they are very helpful. I love d.i.y. projects.

The margarita machine is a good idea.

Shells you can use in your table center pieces or in your guest books.
