Suggested Wedding Bouquets

Carry blood red or black roses. If you've decided to use orange as a wedding color, you may wish to opt for orange colored flowers such as: Orange Hawkweed, Day Lily's, Tiger Lily's, Orange/Yellow Freesia's, Orange Roses, Orange Poppy's. Remember that you can often get a variety of flowers dipped or dyed to suit your wedding colors.

Halloween Wedding Centerpieces

Decorate hollowed out gourds or small pumpkins with black, red, orange and/or yellow flowers. Add a few props to the arrangement, such as small scarecrows, plastic pumpkins, small ghosts, gold stars or moon, etc.

You could also hollow out miniature pumpkins and insert a votive or pillar candle inside.

Create miniature tombstones from Styrofoam painted dark grey. Add a catchy epitaph and decorate the base with a miniature flower bouquet.

Orange and black pillar candles in varying heights placed on small round mirrors. Tie a coordinating ribbon bow around the base of the candle. Scatter a few fake leaves in autumn colors on the mirror.

Use wrought-iron style candelabras with taper candles.

That is pumpkin pie scented potpouri. I read an article somewhere about scents and weddings. It was suggested to add potpouri, scented lamps, and candles. This would be a perfect scent for a Fall/Halloween type wedding. For my winter wedding I have several La Te Da scent lamps and I am buying the scent snowberry. One will be on my gift table and some other places so that the whole room will smell like winter. This type of scent could make the whole room smell like Halloween.

Carved pumpkins and strings of lights may seem holidays apart, but brought together, the result is enchanting. To give your pumpkin the look of a small galaxy, use a drill to pierce it with tiny holes in a pattern of your choice. After you've inserted the lights, admire your cluster of stars up close.

1. Turn the pumpkin on its side, and use a knife to carve out a circular opening in the bottom. Make the opening large enough so your hand can fit comfortably through it. Hollow out the pumpkin. With a serrated loop tool, scrape away the pumpkin’s inner wall until it's about 1/4 inch thick.

2. Turn the pumpkin right-side up. Drill holes using a 1/4-inch bit; use tape as a guide for a uniform pattern, or make randomly spaced holes.

3. Insert a string of lights through the bottom of the pumpkin, and place one bulb in each hole, pushing bulbs through so they protrude slightly. Tuck the remaining lights into the pumpkin, and turn it right side up with the cord running out from the bottom.http://a444.g.akamai.net/7/444/703/20060724124152/www.marthastewart.com/images/spacer.gif

Easy Dried Rose Centerpieces
Follow the instructions for drying roses (http://www.trystancraft.com/martha/projects/roses.html) first.

Materials:

6-12 dried roses
small clear bottle (short apple juice bottles or frappacino bottles work well)
tulle or lace
ribbon
real or silk ivy (optional)Place the bottle in the center of a large square of tulle or lace. Pull up the ends of the tulle/lace together, and tie the ribbon around the neck of the bottle, near the top. Place the roses in the bottle (the smaller the rose heads, the more roses you will need to make a full bunch). If you have small tables, use one bottle on each table. If you have larger tables, group an odd number of bottles together in the center and twine ivy around them.

Drying Roses
Materials:

fresh roses
pushpins
rubber bands or string
hair spray
silica gel (optional)
plastic container (optional)Try to get to the roses just before the heads start to droop and before they've lost any petals. Remove leaves around the bottom of the stem. Take two or three roses and gently twist a rubber band or string around them near the stem, making a very loose bunch. Push a pushpin into a wall that's out of the way of people and pets, preferably near a heating vent but not facing a window. Hook the rose bunch onto the pushpin with the rubberband. Wait about two weeks until the roses are completely dry. Lightly spray each flower with hair spray so it doesn't fall apart.
This simple drying method will cause the roses to shrivels somewhat and the color will darken. Bright red roses usually become the color of dried blood, while white roses become a yellowy parchment color. If you wish to preserve the color, size, and shape of the fresh rose, you will need to completely immerse the rose in a plastic container of silica gel, which is available from craft stores. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully and keep the gel in a safe place away from food and pets.
Dried roses can be used singly or in bunches in vases, jars, or bottles. Or gather bunches together with wide ribbon and hang on the wall or work them into bed hangings. You can also snip off the heads and hot glue them onto things like jewelry boxes, picture frames, wreaths, straw hats, etc. Or dry just the rose petals and make your own potpourri for sachets or around the house.

Favor ideas:
Pumpkin Butter. Purchases small jars of pumpkin butter. It's like pumpkin pie in a jar and it's great on biscuits and crackers.

Miniature Pumpkin Pies. Check with a local baker to see if you could have miniature pumpkin pies made. Wrap in cellophane and tie with orange/black ribbons. Simple, unique and delicious!
Creepy Entertainment For Your Wedding

Hire a fortuneteller to dress up as a gypsy and give short readings. You can opt to pay for this and come up with a set price for the evening or have guests pay for their own readings. Be sure they are kept short (5 to 10 minutes) and that the price reflects this.

Have the DJ play songs such as the Monster Mash, Ghostbusters, Thriller and other suitable Halloween songs throughout the evening.

Why the couple above chose to get married on Halloween. It's very cool.

Samhain is the first day of the Celtic New Year and Samhain falls on Halloween.

Samhain (pronounced "sow-in" in Ireland, "sow-een" in Wales and England, and "sav-en." in Scotland), better know as Halloween, is an ancient Celtic holiday usually celebrated on October 31st.
Samhain (http://www.celticspirit.org/samhain.htm) marks the last harvest before the snows, and the beginning of the dark winter. The bright days of summer are over, and winter's cold snows and long nights are coming. However, we must not lose faith. The earth will awaken with the spring, as it always has and always will. Time marches on. The cycle of life is never ending, and on this day, we remember our place in this great cycle.
The Celts considered Samhain (http://home.earthlink.net/~woodysworld69/celticNewYearSamhain.html) to be, all at once, the end of the old year and the beginning of the next. Thus, it is a day for letting go of the old and looking ahead to the new. It was also a day thought to be "outside" of time, when the veil between the world of the living and dead becomes thinned. The doors to the Lands of the Sidhe (pronounced "shee") or Faery Realm are opened.
On this night of contradiction, life and death are celebrated side by side. It is a night to honor our ancestors, to celebrate their lives, and to toast their memories. It is believed that on this night, the dead can return to earth to visit with the living. Places are set at the table for the deceased, and food left out for them. Lights are placed in windows to help guide the spirits to their destinations.
On the most important day of our lives, when we put aside our "old" lives and begin a new one together, we would like to imagine that our deceased family and friends are here, celebrating with us. On this day, we remember our role in the circle of life, as we move from one part of our lives to the next. And no matter what, we must remember the inevitable spring. For no matter how dark and cold our days might become, it will not last forever.

my flower faerie will be wearing the outfit on the left with leaves inside instead of flowers, and a fall flower/leaf head circlet

Any cute little costume would work, I've heard of people using "trick or treaters" tossing candy out of pumpkins!

my ring bearer is going to be dresser somewhat like Frodo from the Lord of the Rings, and will being carrying a small chest with the rings in it.

OK Lauren, I have some more stuff. Apparently Las Vegas is a great place to go for a Halloween wedding. They have chapels that can basically do the whole thing for you if that is the way anyone is interested in going. A chapel there that specializes in themed weddings is the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. Here are some pics (hopefully they are easy enough to see) from some websites.

http://www.vivalasvegasweddings.com/images/Holidays/cemeterywithgrimreaper.jpg

http://www.vivalasvegasweddings.com/images/Holidays/halloweenweddingcouple.jpg

They have a special ceremony called When Vampires Fly. Here are some of the details.

When Vampires Fly in our Gothic Wedding Chapel decorated into a cemetery setting with wrought iron fencing, tombstones, fog, and theatrical lighting. Your minister for this very special wedding ceremony will be a Vampiress. While two Vampires fly up to the rafters of the chapel ceiling lighting the unity candle for the wedding couple. Are featured Vampire Aerialists are Case and Kathy who perform in the Show "Bite" at the Stratosphere (http://www.stratospherehotel.com/bite.html#). Their aerial act of vampire's in love is hauntingly beautiful and original.

Have the bridesmaids wear black gowns in luxe materials such as velvet, crepe, or chiffon.CostumeIf you want to rent costumes, you will need to reserve items very early; the better costumes go quickly at Halloween.CostumeMake a "Mother of the Bride" hatpin by gluing a skull bead, mini-pumpkin bead, or some pretty black or scarlet beads to a hatpin (found at craft stores).CostumePut the groomsmen and ushers in tails. Undertakers traditionally wore swallowtail coats.CostumeWeb-ify your ensemble by embroidering spiderwebs on your shoes and gloves, or use spray glue and applique lace spiderwebs.CostumeIf you have maple or sweet gum trees in your neighborhood, you can gather up sheaves of leaves and make wreaths.DecorRent wrought-iron candelabra for use as centerpieces, on the cake table, and in corners of the reception hall.DecorUse dark colors rather than pastels in all the bouquets: blood-red roses, for example.DecorHave the wedding and/or reception in an historic mansion. At night, they can feel "spooky" while still being formal and elegant.LocaleFill unpowdered latex gloves with water or fruit juice, knot the wrist, and freeze. Float the hand-shaped ice cubes in a punch bowl at the reception.MenuFreeze water in round or oval ice cube trays with two blueberries in each individual ice cube slot. When frozen and turned out into punch glasses, these cubes will look like skulls with dark, sunken eye sockets.MenuHave candy dishes filled with roasted pumpkin seeds or candy corn placed on all the tables for guests to snack on while waiting for dinner.

WARM PUMPKIN SALAD WITH POLENTA AND CANDIED PUMPKIN SEEDS

1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal (not coarse)
7 1/2 cups water
2 3/4 teaspoons salt
2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/2 cup raw green (hulled) pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
1 tablespoon fresh pomegranate juice (see cooks' note, below) or cranberry juice cocktail
2 teaspoons Sherry vinegar
1 tablespoon minced shallot
6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 small cheese pumpkin or butternut squash (2 lb), peeled, quartered lengthwise, and seeded
1 (6-oz) piece Parmigiano-Reggiano
8 oz arugula, trimmed

Prepare polenta:
Bring cornmeal, water, and 2 1/4 teaspoons salt to a boil in a 4-quart heavy saucepan, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring frequently, until polenta is creamy and tender, about 50 minutes. Remove from heat, then stir in 11/2 tablespoons butter and cool slightly. Spoon polenta onto center of a lightly buttered large baking sheet, then spread evenly into a 10- by 7-inch rectangle (about 1/2 inch thick). Cover with plastic wrap, then poke several holes in wrap with a small sharp knife and chill 2 hours.

Candy pumpkin seeds:
Melt remaining tablespoon butter in a heavy saucepan over moderate heat. Stir in sugar, cumin, cinnamon, paprika, cayenne, and 1/4 teaspoon salt, then cook, without stirring, until caramelized. Add pumpkin seeds and cook, stirring occasionally, until seeds are puffed and golden. Transfer to a plate to cool. When seeds have hardened, break up any clumps with your fingers.

Make vinaigrette:
Whisk together pomegranate juice, vinegar, and shallot and let stand 5 minutes. Whisk in 3 tablespoons oil, remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, and pepper to taste.

Roast pumpkin:
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Cut pumpkin quarters crosswise into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Toss with 1 tablespoon oil and salt and pepper to taste in a shallow baking pan and arrange slices in 1 layer. Roast in middle of oven until just tender, about 20 minutes. Remove from oven, then cover with foil to keep warm.
Fry polenta while pumpkin roasts:
Trim polenta into a 9- by 6-inch rectangle. Cut polenta into 6 (3-inch) squares, then halve each square diagonally. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large nonstick skillet until hot but not smoking, then cook polenta in 2 batches, turning once, until golden brown, about 8 minutes (if necessary, use remaining tablespoon oil for second batch). Transfer as cooked to a plate and keep warm, covered.

Assemble salad:
Shave 12 strips from cheese with a vegetable peeler.
Whisk vinaigrette, then toss arugula in a large bowl with enough vinaigrette to lightly coat. Place several pieces of pumpkin and 1 piece of polenta on each of 6 plates. Top with arugula, more pumpkin, and remaining polenta. Sprinkle with candied pumpkin seeds and top with parmesan shavings, then drizzle with remaining vinaigrette.

DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE SPIDER'S WEB

For the spider web that decorates this cake, melted semisweet chocolate chips work best. Don't be tempted to substitute another type of chocolate.

For cake layers:
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (not Dutch-process)
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/4 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
4 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

For chocolate web and spider:
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For coffee meringue frosting:
2 large egg whites
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon instant espresso powder

Make cake layers:
Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease three 9-inch round cake pans and line each bottom with a round of wax paper. Grease paper and dust pans with flour, knocking out excess flour.

In a bowl whisk boiling water into cocoa until smooth and whisk in milk and vanilla.
In a large bowl with an electric mixer beat together butter and sugars until light and fluffy and beat in eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
Into another bowl sift together flour, baking soda, and salt and add to egg mixture in batches alternately with cocoa mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture and beating well after each addition.
Divide batter among pans, smoothing tops, and bake in upper and lower thirds of oven, switching position of pans halfway through baking, 20 to 25 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean and layers begin to pull away from sides of pans. Cool layers in pans on racks 10 minutes and turn out onto racks to cool completely. Cake layers may be made ahead and kept, wrapped well in plastic wrap, at room teperature 2 days or frozen 1 week.

Make chocolate web and spider:
On a sheet of parchment paper draw an 11-inch circle with a pen or pencil and draw a spider web on it, extending some of ends beyond circle (see drawing). Tear off a large corner of the paper and on it draw a spider (see drawing). Turn drawings over onto a large baking sheet.

In a metal bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water melt chocolate chips, stirring until smooth. Transfer chocolate to a pastry bag fitted with a #3 plain tip (slightly smaller than 3/4 inch). (Alternatively, form a makeshift pastry bag: Transfer chocolate to a small sealable plastic bag and seal bag, pressing out excess air. Squeeze chocolate to one corner of bag and snip off about 1/8 inch from corner, making a small hole.)
Pipe chocolate on web, beginning with spokes, and on spider. Freeze web and spider on baking sheet until very firm, at least 1 hour and up to 1 day.

Make coffee meringue frosting:
In a metal bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water beat frosting ingredients with a hand-held electric mixer on low speed until mixture is warm and sugar is dissolved. Beat frosting on high speed 7 minutes, or until thick and fluffy. Remove bowl from heat and beat frosting until slightly cooled.
Assemble cake:
Put a cake layer on a serving plate and spread top with some frosting. Top with another cake layer and spread top with more frosting. Top with remaining cake layer and frost cake with remaining frosting.

Working quickly, invert paper with frozen web onto another sheet of parchment or wax paper and peel off paper quickly but carefully. invert spider web carefully onto cake and let soften at room temperature until overhanging edges begin to droop. press overhang gently against side of cake. Cake may be assembled and decorated 4 hours ahead and kept in a cake keeper, chilled. Let cake stand at room temperature 30 minutes before serving. Just before serving, peel chocolate spider from paper and put on cake.

SMASHING PUMPKIN MARTINI

This spicy, pumpkin-infused cocktail would make a delightful aperitif from Halloween through Christmas. It was created by Felix Albano, manager of the bar at Fifty Seven Fifty Seven in New York City.

3 ounces spiced pumpkin vodka (http://www.epicurious.com/drinking/drink_views/views/200307)
1 ounce Amaretto

Garnish: toasted pumpkin seeds

For pumpkin seeds:
Heat a large heavy skillet over moderate heat until hot. Toast pumpkin seeds, stirring constantly, until they expand and begin to pop, 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer seeds to a plate to cool.
For Martini:
In a shaker filled with ice, stir spiced pumpkin vodka and Amaretto. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Garnish with toasted pumpkin seeds

we are going all halloween..my dress will be blood red with a black chemise underneath...i am buying halloween decorations at the after-clearance sale...and we will have this really cool 'gypsy fortune teller' in a crystal ball as a centerpiece on one of the tables.

The first dance will be 'the masochism tango' and the cake will be nightmare before christmas themed.

I think it will be a blast.

the tables will be draped in black tulle with white lights sparkling thru it.
