As long as you want it to. My FH and I got engaged last Sept and are waiting till 6/06 to get married. Its all about you. Give yourself enough time to plan and get everything the way you want it!

Well at first i thought that it was too long but then i figured since we just had a baby that we will need enought time to save money to do everything right! I know that they say that it is a life long dream for a woman to have a perfect wedding. But actually i have now everything i could ever want. So i think that i have been ready since i met him! I guess that waiting a little longer is ok! Thank you for that advice! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

We went back and forth on our date, but ultimately I ended up planning in 4 months. It was crazy and chaotic, thank goodness I had a great mom who babysat for me when I was running around trying to get everything organized. If I had to do it again, I'd probably do the same thing. I'm such a procrastinator, I'd probably still end up planning in 4 months! :)

Best of luck!!!

I have to say, that a Engagement can last you as long or as short as you need! If you're not ready financially or what ever maybe the reason, then you can have your engagement last for as long as you need! But when it comes time to start planning, I wouldn't recommend leaving it to the last minute. It's a lot to do...How did you manage Lacey_8_99? You must have really known what you wanted and that... :D I commend you for it, thats for sure! I've been planning this wedding of Ours for over a year now...wait...maybe waiting until four months before is the way to do it...then people can't complain so much, I mean they wouldn't have much time to! lol.

Honestly, I don't know how I did it. We got engaged in April 2004 and set the date for Sept of 2005. I immediately started planning, bought my dress in May even though it was so far off. Then in June I just didn't want to wait any more, I got the bright idea to move it up by a year. My grandparents weren't doing all that well and I really wanted them to be there, so that was another factor. So many things really just fell into place and I just got lucky. The location I wanted was booked and I spent a week searching and pricing other places, turns out there was a cancelation and I ended up getting my first choice. I had connections with some vendors, a friend works in a restraunt who caters...a friend of my brothers is a photographer...found a great florist who works out of her home. I lived on the internet for those months, searching and pricing.
You are right though, gives everyone a lot less time to complain and put their 2 cents in!! :) I work so much better under pressure...but everyone is different. I've always been like that, not sure that is always a good thing and I'm sure DH was ready to kill me for most of those 3 months!!

There is no time limit to an engagement. I got engaged at christmas and my wedding is booked for August 2007.
Its up to you and your partner, don't allow anyone to pressure you into anything.

Hope this helps
