I was just wondering what other's gave their parents as parent gifts for their weddings. I know not everyone does it, but for those of you who did, what did you get them?

I'm having trouble finding something for Luke's stepdad, so I'm hoping someone might be able to give me an idea. I know you can't really give me suggestions because you don't know him, but I might be able to come up with an idea after hearing what you all did for your parents.

So far, my step dad is getting a ring that serves as a beer bottle opener (some of you might have seen pics of them. I posted about them in the DIY section, because I'm also giving them to my groomsmen, and I needed a little saying to go with it, my stepdad is going to get one too, he'll LOVE it!) My mom and Luke's mom are getting cell phone charms (tho they will probably hang them somewhere else, like their purses or something). My mom's is Tingerbell and FMIL's is a horse (she owns a horse farm). I'm planning to get Luke's stepmom a wine bottle topper, waiting on the auctions to end on ebay to try to get a better deal than the buy it now ones that are available. We're probably going to get a pocket knife for FFIL, he's a big outdoors man.

So out of all the parents, Luke's stepdad is the only one we can't figure out. For his birthday or Christmas, we usually try to get him a joke book, he's all about jokes and funny stuff. If we can't find anything like that for him, we'll look at the shirts at walmart and Spencers, the ones that say funny things (some are dirty/perverted...and FMIL hates them, but we think they're funny LOL). And if we don't find anything like that, we usually just end up buying him a gift card to walmart. I don't want to get him a shirt, a joke book just doesn't sound personal enough (it would be just another joke book to add to the millions that he already has) and a gift card isn't something he'll be able to keep forever. We want to get him something that he'll remember our wedding everytime he looks at it.

Our gifts aren't costing much of anything really, couple bucks each, the pocket knife is probably going to the be most expensive, which probably won't be THAT bad, we're getting everything on ebay (new items of course). We can't really afford big gifts, but our parents understand that.

If anyone can give any suggestions with what I've said about him, I'll consider them. But I'd really like to hear what everyone else did for their parents, specifically their fathers and FIL's!!

We haven't picked out the pocket knife for FFIL yet, so I don't have a pic to share.

I just need some sort of an idea for Luke's stepdad

I got our parents/grandparents personalized handkerchiefs that had their relationship to us (and they had step-parent ones, too) and our names and the date. For DH's step-dad (Because he was also DH's best man) we got him a personalized pewter can koozie.

One thing we got for one of DH's groomsmen was a personalized pen that we had engraved with a sort of running inside joke. It was only like $9 and included the engraving. I don't know if that's anything you'd be interested in, but you could put something smart or funny on it and it would still be memorable. It came from a company called P. Graham Dunn (and they have some cute pocket knives that are pretty cheap, too. I got one for my brother and he loved it)

Ohh, an engraved pen is a good idea. I'll have to put some thought into that and see. Thanks for the idea.

I forgot to mention that he's a dentist, if that helps spark any ideas for anyone too. LOL

I just bought some "mother of the bride" stuff for my mom. Other than that I really did do anything.
