Thank you notes for gifts you had to return?

Hey Ladies,

I am starting to write my thank yous for the gifts we got for our wedding. One of my husband's aunts got us a duplicate of a gift I'd received back at my bridal shower, and we had to return it. My problem is...
...what do I write in the thank you? Do I just say "thank you for the immersion blender" or do I need to make mention of the return, or... oh man I don't want to be insensitive!

I wouldn't even make mention of it. Her intention was to get you a gift you needed, and she didn't know that you no longer need it. I would write the note the same way you would have had you kept it.

I wouldn't mention the return. If it's the same item, she'll never know it was HERS you returned if she comes to visit ;)
And if someday she does find out, you simply explain I'm sorry I didn't mention it Aunt Susie, but we ended up getting 2 immersion blenders so I exchanged it for a (whatever you picked).

I plan on returning a couple things we got that were kinda duplicates or things we really will never use... and i just thanked them for their item but didn't go over the top at all...

No one can really get upset at you for exchanging a gift when you got more than 1 of the same item...

Yeah, I agree. You still have a blender, she doesn't need to know it wasn't the specific one she gave you. ;) Just send a note as normal.

haha thanks ladies, will do. Immersion blenders *are* pretty awesometastic, too. I love cooking!!

I agree I wouldn't mention it.

I did mention it in three of mine though.... I got 3 of the exact same griddles at the same wedding shower. So they already knew. None of them had taken it off the registry lol
