Hubby and I were out earlier and passed by a house with a garden and they had a scarecrow out there. It got me thinking ... where did the scarecrow come from; and do they really keep birds away?

I'm not sure where they came from but they work at keeping the birds from eating freshly planted seeds, but ours doesn't work after everything has sprouted and put flowers on. So we put up a wooden owl and that keeps the other birds out of the garden and the rats.
