Anyone ever hear of this who-will-marry-next tradition that Turkish brides have been practicing for generations? Before you start down the aisle, have your single bridesmaids (or any single female friends or relatives) autograph the sole of your bridal shoe. After you’ve danced the night away (and tossed your bouquet), legend has it that the person whose name has faded the most will be the next to marry.
I suppose you could even do this instead of throwing the bouquet. :D

It is actually done through Eastern Europe and into Turkey. I thought about doing it but it left my mind that day with so many other things. Besides, only 2 out of 6 bridesmaids were single and one of them was only 16. I didn't think we needed to start planting marriage thoughts in her mind.

I have never heard of it. It sounds pretty cool though. I have 3 single bridesmaids.

Well we are talking about the family that was VERY disappointed that my mother would allow me to go off and go to college AND law school when in fact I could just stay there, work in the pottery for a year or two until I found a husband, then spend the next 20 years barefoot and pregnant. God I am so glad I have nothing to do with those poeple anymore.

Why? That seems like such a nice life. Man you could even get on food stamps. That would be lovely.

Yes I could. Hamburger Helper and Kool Aid, can't wait! And I could even have the blow up pool and 4 broken down cars outside my mouse and big infested trailer parked on the side of the dirt road too. Or, I could live in my townhouse with my nice cushy lifestyle and only be concered about making it to Kenneth Cole and BCBG before they close to get a killer outfit to wear out that night. Decisions decisions decisions.

Have you ever seen what you have to go through to get those food stamps? It's really sad and degrading. :( But this is what some of these little girls are asking for running off getting married and pregnant at 16.

Yeah I've known people on them. I've also known women on WIC and other social programs. Personally in Texas I think it's to easy to get on these programs. I remember in high school I worked at a grocery store and people carrying Dooney and Burke hand bags would pull out their Lonestar Card (food stamps in Texas) and buy food. Then they would have their beer and cigarettes behind their food that they would pay cash for or charge. Some of them would have their fake nails and they dressed better than I did. A lot them drove new cars. Not all people, there are certainly some that need the help for real, but to many abuse the system. People in my own family do it. I have a cousin on food stamps who has a VIP membership at the topless club and wears $100 tennis shoes. He never misses Friday night steak night either.

Abusing the system? Yes it's wrong, because we all have to pay for it.

I see that all the time at the grocery store. It drives me nuts. I used to work in the inner city and I would haul my butt to work everyday. The kids would come in and get their discounted lunches, after school food programs, ect while wearing $300 Air Jordan court shoes, carrying better cell phones than I had, wearing more gold chains and diamond earrings than you could imagine, carrying Lousi Vitton purses and book bags, then I would see their parents in teh grocery store when I woul dstop after work using food stamps. What ashame to knot have to pay for your food PLUS have illicit income.

No, but it still would have been kind of fun. You will learn though that all those cute little last minute things you planned to do spur of the moment on your wedding day will in fact NEVER get done.
