We have decided to elope. I have lots of family that fight, he has very little family (in the US at least). I don't talk to my father, and recently my mother as well... I was worried about drama and I just want to be with him so elope we shall!!
We still want to have everything wedding-y so it will not be your usual courthouse wedding. We are staying at a B&B about 45 minutes from here, they offer an elopement ceremony with flowers, cake, champagne, ETC for $750 including a night in their best room. We will stay there two nights, then go to Madison, WI staying at one of their nicer hotels for two nights. I am wearing a casual but still bridal gown, him a suit we think, and still going to get a real wedding cake and everything. We want everything but the big expensive party, really! We plan on going on a more traditional honeymoon in a year or so. We have recently bought a brand new house so we aren't exactly rolling in the dough!

Is your FH from out of the country as well? Or just has lots of family that have moved elsewhere?
My DH is from Europe, so I can sympathize with the whole lots of family out of the country part.
I think your plans sound lovely and better yet, you sound happy and comfy with them and that's very important! I can't wait to hear more!

no, he was born here, but his parents are from Poland and most of their family still lives there. if your husband's family is anything like my guy's family, they are probably going to be ticked that we aren't getting married in a Catholic church. oh well :)

lol nah they aren't particularly religious. It seems in the Netherlands it's popular for parents to take their kids up until a certain age (usually the rebellious age) and then stop going... then once people get older alot of them start going again. (This is coming from my hubby not from me)
My dad's family was catholic and when I was growing up, we'd go to Christmas Mass with my grandparents every year. I just remember a big beautiful church and WAAAAAY too much stuff in a language that I didn't understand and WAAAAY too much uncomfortable kneeling standing kneeling standing sitting kneeling kneeling standing kneeling.... well you get the picture. lol I'm sure every place is different, but that's how this one was. I preferred my families non-catholic church! lol

yeah that's about right! he and his parents are catholic but only went until he finished all his sunday schoolings, then stopped alltogether?? weird if you ask me. i used to go sometimes with my friend in hs to her church which was catholic and i got the same impression...kneel, stand, kneel, stand. there was even a padded kneel bar! i always went to a very casual church with a band, where you can sing and have fun while learning your lessons. :)

Same here! Luckily Anton and his family are perfectly happy to let my pastor do the honors at our wedding. Anton stopped going as soon as his parents let him and hasn't been to a church until I asked him to go with me to mine last year. lol he was in awe of knowing that there was a church that played rock music/modern christian songs and had such a laid back atmosphere!
