She's called me daughter #2 (FSIL is daughter #1 of course) since I came into their home when Jonathan and I started dating in 1999. She wants me to call her mom and it seems really natural for me to do so.

I usually call her Ernestine and sometimes mom.(not often though!) Even Matthew calls her Ernestine because it Germany, they stop calling their mom's "mom" when they're like 6. At that time they are on a first name basis. don't ask me why but it's got something to do with calling them Mama and kids finding it too childish. I've got him back into calling her mom now...but he sometimes slips up and calls her Ernestine.

That is so strange, Shawna, because here in the US, it is disrespectful to call your Mom by her first name. That's the way I was raised anyway. I find it fascinating how other cultures raise their children. :D

I call her mom...or the lady (because Joel always says "Hey, Lady" to her), sometimes I call her by her name...it just depends!!!

I thought the same thing and was shocked when he was calling her by her first name. Then Matt's sister Michi and her daughter (who is 6) came over to visit(from Germany). Well Svenja was calling her mom Michi or Michaela. I guess it's just cause in their language they use the word Mama not mom and it's just something they do. I have never in my entire life called my mom by her first name but I've been mad enough to call my Dad by his first name! lol....Funny because my mom is the one I don't get along with often. I guess I just wanted to hurt my dad at the time. Lol

I do not have a FMIL but Jason's grandmother's are like his mom...I call them by their first name. Jason calls my mom by her first name too.

At first I called DH's mother by her first name, then there towards the end I called her Mom. She passed away before we were actually married, but she knew we were planning to marry. I loved her and I miss her.
I don't think DH calls my mother anything really ;)

I call her by her first name. Not sure why, always have. Though, sometimes when I'm talking to FH, I call her mom.

I call her mom now. When I first met her, I had to call her "auntieji" because that's what they call elders (female obviously..lol). After a while though, i just started calling her mom. I call his dad, "sir" or "uncle" though. Just not close to him at all. I don't know what i'll do after the wedding, cause my SIL calls him Dad, so ....

I switch back and forth from calling FH's mom either by her first name or mom, just depends on how I feel at the time. When talking with FH I usually refer to her as mom.

I call her Mrs. V_______. I've never been asked to do otherwise. I won't be calling her "mom", even if asked. She's not my mom.

I call her by a family nickname (her name is Elaine but everyone calls her Lynne). I'll probably continue to do that, and I can't imagine Jonathan calling my Mom and Dad anything other than their first names. Now that I think of it though, my father, at least some of the time, called my mother's father "Dad".

That's the way I feel. I feel it is disrespecting my own mother to call anyone else mom. Sometimes Justin calls my mother, mom. He also calls one of his best friend's mother mom. It does not bother me that he does it, but I would never call anyone else besides my mother mom.

I have been calling her by her first name. It threw me off at the wedding. I went to give her the bottle of sand that I had for her and I called her by name. She said Marlene? ( her name ) all the others have called me mom and your the one that marreid him. I wasnt sure what she was talking about at first. Maybe it is a southern thing that you call you boyfriends mom mom. But I have never called any one mom but my mom and hse is actualy called MUM. So I call her my her name. IF Nicholas is on the phoen with her and says mom says hi I will say hi mom. But talking to her I dont call her mom. It just isnt me.
Nicholas calls my mom mom and I hear my BIL call my mom mom as well. But my sister calls her MIL by her name.

I had always called FH's parents. Mr and Mrs. I am slowly starting to call them mom and dad. I still feel a little weird calling them that some times. The other day, FFIL told me that he considers me his daughter so he loves it when I call him dad.

I call her by her first name. Though I have been talking to her on the phone for over a year and a half now, I only met her in person in March. I just fell in love w her, but I am still not comfy enough to call her mom. But I do tell her that I love her, which I do!!!

I think it would be really weird to call anyone Mom & Dad who weren't my Mom & Dad. I personally don't think I could do it. I admire you guys who can though.
Oh, Nikki has an avatar!!! That's so cool!!! I love it, Nikki!!!! :D

My ex's dad wanted me to call him dad, as the other 'other halves' did, but I didn't feel right doing so. I don't even call my own father dad, and don't call my stepfather dad either. I guess it would just be to wierd for me personally.

If you knew the hell this man been throw with my mother then you would change your mind.
She come here yelling and screaming that my house stinks and in nasty dirty. just because there is a couple of cobe webs. Everything ells shines and clean
Sinces our daughter has been born she has put him throw 9 time of heck. Because he has other children and fill then need to also care for those children and not give DD 100% of his attention when he is home he has 3 children he dose the best he can to give each one equal time with him. But in her mind that still is not good. She started WW3 they day our daughter was boarn because she could not get in to see DD right away . She has put him down in every way shape or form.
He has listen to her put me down in every way posible. Make judgement on everything i do. He has a write to say what he dose because he know she can be a nut case or a B to anyone when she dose not get her way 100% of the time .
Just like she puts me down for now whonting my brother at the wedding and has tryed to make us invite him. Sorry he not welcome because one he is a sex affender, Two he is eather strong out on something or Drunk 99.9% of the time and anything that is not nailed down arround him ends up walking away with him

Granted it has only been a few times but she turned her act around once she knew I wasn't going to deal with her any differently than a stranger on the street. She might have given birth to me without an epidural. I'm greatful she pushed long enough to get me out. But after that cord was cut, all bets were off.

No, I could never call my mother that. I will never. I have way to much respect for the woman to ever dawn that kind of disrecpect and utter rudeness onto her. My mother would walk to the end of the earth for me, so in my opinion calling her that would be one of the worst things I could do. I may have silently thought at times that she was acting like one, but I have never said to her or anyone that she was one. I have never said that about a friend either. That is one thing I am not going to do.
In Stephanie's case there would be no reason to call her mother that if it were me, because the woman (notice I didn't say mother, because it takes more than blood to be a mother) would not be in my life anymore. She would be nonexsistant and not worthy of any words.

I call my MiL and SMiL Donna and Ildi. That's there names. I've never really thought about calling them anything eles.
Occassionaly when i am talking to Mark about his mom i will call her mom. But that's about it.
Mark calls my mom Janet or Mom. When we first got married he joked about calling her mom. So now he does. But so do our friends. Laura and Tyler (who were in the bridal party) have become really close with her and she always says they need to come home. lol!
