Other than all types, please share with us your favorite type of chocolate.
White chocolate
Chocolate made with cocoa butter, sugar, milk, emulsifier, vanilla and sometimes other flavorings. It does not contain any non-fat ingredients from the cacao bean and has therefore an off-white color. In some countries white chocolate cannot be called 'chocolate' because of the low content of cocoa solids. It has a mild and pleasant flavor and can be used to make Chocolate Mousse, Panna Cotta and other desserts.
Milk chocolate
Sweet chocolate with 10-20% cocoa solids (which includes cocoa and cocoa butter) and more than 12% milk solids. It is seldom used for baking, except for cookies.
Dark chocolate
Sweetened chocolate with high content of cocoa solids and no or very little milk, it may contain up to 12% milk solids. Dark chocolate can either be sweet, semi-sweet, bittersweet or unsweetened. If a recipe specifies 'dark chocolate' you should first try semi-sweet dark chocolate.

I like white chocolate the best! My second favorite would be milk chocolate. I'm not that big into dark chocolate.

I like both milk chocolate and dark chocolate the same really. I can eat more milk chocolate so I picked that. I usually grab milk chocolate unless its Godiva... then its definitely dark chocolate!

I don't really care for chocolate. But on the occasion when I do I usually got for dark.

That was a touch choice between the white and the milk chocolate, but I voted for the milk chocolate. I don't get the white chocolate that often ... and I am not a fan of the dark variety.

Milk, but dark would be a close second.

Definitely Milk Chocolate for me. Though, a close second is dark chocolate. Sometimes, the bitterness of the dark calms the craving faster than the sweetness of the milk. The truth is.... any chocolate is chocolate for me! :bbwink:

Dark is the best, it is so rich and you can taste the chocolate flavor, it isn't coverd up by all that sugar. But I kow how you feel. I would rather have my hair pulled out than have to eat white "chocolate".

See, now I agree with you here too, Lacey. To me, white chocolate is just like eating little blobs of sugary whipped up Crisco shortening. Don't like it at all.

There is no actual chocolate in it. I don't even know how it got named chocolate to begin with. Dogs can eat it and be fine. Although I am learing with the little chocoholic Scottie that I have, dogs can actually eat some chocolate and be fine. Ellie happens to be addcited to it. I can't even throw it in the garabge that she doesn't go through looking for some. Heaven forbid I leave it out on the table.

Yeah, I've heard that too. But my dogs have eaten a sh*tload of chocolate and they didn't even get sick. So I don't know if that applies to all dogs or if they have to eat a truckload of it before it kills them. :bbconfused:

I was talking to my vet about it on one of the first times I went running to puppy ER after Ellie ate a bag of choclate covered cherries. Apparenlty most choclate that you buy doesn't have enough pure chocolate in it. Now if they were to get a hold of a dark chocolate bar from Switzerland or Holland it would be a different story. Plus, most chocolate in the US is milk choclate and the milk breaks down the enzyme that makes the dogs sick. So they usually don't get enough actual chocolate. I know that just the other day Ellie (she weights about 25 pounds) ate an entire Mrs. Fields chocolate walnut brownie and chocolate frosting. It didn't even make her hyper let alone sick. She was fine. I don't give her choclate by any means but I also don't completely freak out if she manages to dig a couple old Hershey kisses out of the trash anymore either. Besides, it is usually on fatal if you let it go. If you notice that they are starting to act lethargic or getting a runny stool, immediate action by the vet in the form of IV's to keep them hydrated usually will do the trick.

What does chocolate actually do to them anyway? How does it kill them?

From what I gathered from my vet, it causes really bad diarreha that dehydrates to the point that it throws off their electrolytes and they die from heart failure.

That would suck if chocolate did that to us!! Chocoholics wouldn't be able to help themselves, and would die happy. lol :) Well, happy until they started getting sick anyway. :bbconfused:

I think I heard once that some dogs can have an allergy to chocolate as well. I've also heard that you are not supposed to give your dogs anything with onions in it. However, I've given my dogs left overs before with onions in it and she has never gotten sick.

My vet said the same thing about the onions. Ruffles loves onions. If I am cooking and accidentally drop a piece of onion she is on it with sonic speed. Pork is supposed to be bad for dogs too. Again, I don't think a bite or two of it every now and then is really that horrible. But, if they digest their body weight in it, problems can arise.
The only think mine do NOT every get their paws on because I do NOT even allow it in the house are processed meats like deli meat and hot dogs. Our vet says that is the equivelent of poisoning them because of all the chemicals. So if it isn't good enough for the dogs it sure as hell isn't good enough for the humans.

Ruffles ate pork for years when she still lived at home with my parents. I don't think Ellie has ever had any because I simply don't buy and cook it.
