Okay so my wedding date is set for November of 06...at 5:30...my mother told me to cancel my wedding...She said that everyone she knows (herself included) that got married on a half hour ends up getting a divorce...She wants me to move my wedding up to 6 pm... I can't do that though because it conflicts with the hall...and I can't move it to 5 because there is a 4:00 mass that evening...
Has anyone here every heard of such a thing??? And if you have gotten married on the half hour please let me know so that way there I don't think I'm going crazy!!!

Ok, so this sounds kind of (for lack of a better word) ridiculous. I think a marriage works because the two people in the marriage make it work, not because they got married on the half hour!! Its all about the people who make up the marriage not about the time they said I do!!!

PS by the way, I do believe my cousin and his wife got married at 5:30 and yes, they ARE STILL going strong!

That is a superstition not worth listening to - it does sound absolutely ridiculous! As long as your heart is right, your marriage will grow and last for all time. I can't even remember who got married on the half hour? and I would be curious how your Mom can remember such a detail.
And... to be honest - if you put the half hour on invites, your wedding will start more on the hour than the half hour by the time the parents are seating, and the bridal party walks down, etc.

GOOD LUCK!

I honestly don't believe it because I heard the exact opposite. I wanted a 2pm wedding and my fiances mother and sister insisted it was bad luck and we move it to 2:30pm. People and their superstitions... just do what you and your fiance what to do and do what's best considering your facilities.

Wow...now that is a first! I can't say I've ever heard of that one before, but just to ease your concern, I have an aunt and uncle who were married at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon...and that was 62 years ago!!! I have to agree with the other brides and believe that marriage is all about what 2 people put into it, not what time you were married, where you were married or what you wear. Good luck. :D

I also think that it is ridiculous you can get married at what ever time you want. It's like they say you can't wear white unless you are a virgin!!! yeah ok i have seen pregnant women getting married in white. You can't believe everything they say even if it comes from your mom.

The last 10 weddings I've been to have all been married on the half hour and they are ALL happily married....the girls are right...people make a marriage work, not what time they get married.

Wow... what did you end up doing?? I have definitely been to a half-hour wedding, and didn't think anything of it! Talk about superstition.... but I guess everyone has their little things.
