If I was you I'd buy a wedding planning book/organizer. That would probably be super helpful! I know there's even a "Wedding Planning for Dummies" book out there. :goodluck:

I think that if you get the wedding planning book you should be just fine. There are so many people on OW that any questions you have along the process of planning will get answered. Plus that way you don't have to waste money on a coordinator.

tbh when Anton and I met with the 1st caterer we had NO CLUE what we wanted... lol we just sat and talked things over with the caterer and came up with a menu that both of us liked that we felt would have a fairly wide appeal. The best thing you can do is maybe look for some caterers in your area and see if they have an online sample menu. That will likely give you some good ideas of where to start.

I chose to have a wedding planner and she has steered me to some great deals that I don't think I could have found on my own. BUT, that is a choice that was right for me and might not be right for you. There are tons of lists out there telling you the things you should think of. Some of them you'll find are things you want to incorporate, some not so much. A great source of information for what to look for, menus, etc, are to look through the wedding journals on here.

Just take a deep breath and start thinking about what things are MOST important to you and you can then maybe add in other things as you see them and decide you want them in your wedding.

Best of luck and feel free to ask us for any help you need!

I was like this too when I started!! but everything falls into place in the end, When you meet with the people for the main things for your wedding, venue, photographer, dress, florist, it all pulls together, You know what colours you want so everything else is just pulling it all together and seeing if the venue you like does catoring, if not then google some in your area within your budget..

Good luck!! hope to hear more about your wedding plans :) x

It seems like you off to a great start.

Get a binder for organization. Find a journal for stress. Plan three times a week. Go online for a good checklist. For etiquette, go online to emily or peggy post.

The yellow pages have a wide array of vendors for all budgets. Go over your budget once a week.

FoodNetwork or allrecipes.com. They may have some menu suggestions there. I brought my recipes for my wedding. I am control freak that way.

I am not using a wedding planner either. But I agree that getting some sort of book is very helpful. I got a really nice planner from JC Penney's for free just for creating a wedding registry with 15 items on it. It's a really helpful source of information, and lots of information too!

I agree about the food. Check into the venue and see what they offer. If they offer catering, then meet up with them and discuss your options. If not, then maybe you should think about how you want to do the food. Do you want a caterer or do you want to do it yourself (we're doing it all ourself and just hiring someone my stepdad used to work with to cook the noodles for the spaghetti and heat everything up the day of). Then from there you can break it down and start thinking about what kind of foods you want to serve.
