I voted other because I've always had cats and dogs. I could never decide which ones I like better.

I am definately a dog person. No offense to anyone but cats gag Sean and I. They get on the counter in the kitchen and that is unacceptable.

I am a dog person all the way. We will never own a cat. If we live in the country and we get a stray I will feed it to keep it around. they keep the mice away. But no cats in the house.

Well...I am a cat person all the way. I have 7 in my house now thank god we have a 2 story 4 bedroom house...we have lots of room since it is just the 2 of us most of the time. I love all my babies they can do no wrong. They walk all over the kitchen counters...when Jason and I sit at the dining room table for dinner sometimes they jump up there and lay down on the edge. I do not mind and neither does Jason. They are the best. Oh and I too am very allergic to them but I do not mind...

I'm definitely a cat person. Right now, I only have one cat, (and FH will never let me have more than one at a time, because he's not really a pet person). But, I've had cats my whole entire life. At one time, I had 7. I like dogs, but prefer cats all the way.

My cats stay outside most of the time, but when they do come in they know to not get on the counters or the table. I agree that would be unacceptable. I do not want to eat on a table where any animal has been. Growing up we had indoor cats and it was the same way. You can train them by using a squirt bottle. If they jump up there you can spray a small amount of water on them. They learn fast. I've also heard of a friend of my mother's training her cats to not get on the couch until she went to bed or left the house. In the evening or when she was gone she put a sheet on the couch and the cats learned they could get up there then. I don't know how she did that.

I think the thing that grosses most people out with cats is the litter box. I don't like cleaning one and had to do it growing up. It was as chore for us. I love my cats to death, but thank God I do not have a litter box. They go outside!

Lol Kacie, with the squirt bottle trick, what do you do if your cat likes water? My parent's cat (it used to be mine) actually likes to swim. They went camping and the little bugger jumped in the lake!!! lol Thank god dad had him on a leash other wise he would have paddled out as far as he wanted! lol

As far as me, I'm a cat person. I grew up with my cat Smokey from the age of two until I was 21 when my parent's put him down. Infact we had him creamated and he is at my parents house. I love and miss Smokey because he was like a family member to me...like a brother!!

Now as far as Matt, he hates cats. That is why I had to give my parent's my old cat! But he has said that when we get on the farm I can have cats as long as they stay outside!

And I agree with Lacey that it is nasty when your cats go on the counter and table. I lived with a girl who let her cat do that, I started locking myself in my bedroom away from her stupid cat!!! (This was to eat because where ever your cat goes, cat hair stays! So I was not eating off the table!!!)

Anyhow, we're getting a dog once we're on the farm so I guess that's the final ruling. Cats outside and dog, well that'll probably be outside too but the dog will get much more spoiling than any cats from Matthew! lol

Shawna, I don't know what you would do if the cat liked to be squirted with water. Blaze likes water in the bath tub, but still does not like to be squirted with water. He likes to sit on the side when I am in the bath and play with the water.

lol Mocha plays in the toilet if you leave the lid up, so of course it's always down!!! He will swim any where he can!

I definitely prefer dogs over cats ... I guess for many of the reasons listed above. But I particularly love MY dogs, I feel in love with Italian Greyhounds because they are sleek and graceful, low maintenance and don't shed much, so they are usually good for ppl with allergies. Plus we wanted a relatively small inside dog. I think there are lots of cool dogs, but I don't think I'd ever have any other breed.

No offense to anyone but cats, but I don't care for them. Probably because of most of the traits listed above, plus they are sort of sneaky and tend to get into things (I know not all are like this but many I've known are) ... that, and they make me sneeze. I can go to someones house that has a cat, not even see the cat or know they have one and I will be sneezing in like 5 mins.

ETA - Oh, and I had used the squirt bottle trick with my dogs, they don't really care much for water (they don't mind baths though) but I think it startles them the most. Plus I put a drop of vinegar in the water, so it has an odor they don't care for ;)

I find the rolled up newspaper trick is very effective with dogs. I've never tried water with them. I think my dog would just try to bite the water. She attacks air freshner when I spray it. It's really very comical to watch her chase it around the house.

I'm kind of half and half. I do really like dogs more...but **** I love my cat. Alex is more of a cat person, and cats are much cheaper and easier to take care of...so that was why we decided to get a cat first. The water bottle thing only works with some dogs...my sisters dogs would bark all the time right after she put her baby down for a nap and then wake him up. She wanted to get a shock collar for both of them, but her husband wouldn't let her....so they did the water bottle thing and its really helped she said. It definitely helped with our cat (even though she loves water)...it was a great way to teach her wear not to jump up on and such....now you don't even need the water bottle, you just have to lift up your hand like you hold a water bottle and make the "psh" sound and she stops whatever shes doing....our cat is trained really well. :) I take pride in that.

We can't have a dog because we are in an apartment and because we travel every second weekend 8 months out of the year but as soon as we get a house, I am getting a dog!

I guess I'm sort of an other person.... I like cats, but I'm terribly allergic to them... and I'm not much of a dog lover in general, but there are a few dogs I've known that I love.
