I am trying to loose about 10 pounds and tone up my body, Does anyone know if I changed my sodas to diet and cut back to only 1 a day if that would still help me loose weight along w/ exercize? (Or is soda that bad to where I'd have to eliminate totally?!) I rarely have a beer now too. My hubby had got me drinking beers when we would go out and such, I think that's what helped me get a gut! I would never gain weight when I was younger, infact I was too thin @ points. I never had a gut before until last yr. or so!

Diet soda has no calories, so that will not put pounds on you. The only problem is that you need to make sure you also get enough water to stay properly hydrated.
Right now, I would make sure to exercise at least 5 times/week try to get some sort of cardio everyday, even if it's not all at once. You can do 10 mins. here and 10 mins. there. Also keep track of all the calories you do eat and keep it in the ballpark of 2000, getting enough fruits, vegetables, protein, carbs and fat.

My whole job I have to be on my feet all day and walking from 1 end of the building to the other! I try to get exercise in whenever I can, but I need to to do it about 5 times a wk. like u said.

Cutting out soda and switching to just water and the occasional diet soda can make a big difference, especially if you are active and eating the right foods. An average can is usually like 130 calories or more, if you drank 3 a day that's 390 you could cut from one day, which ends up being 2730 calories you would cut out of your week. Sorry to get crazy with the numbers, I just know I used to drink a lot of my calories and it would definitely help if you're trying to lose weight.

I was going to go there on the "sodas" too. The numbers really add up when you drink alot of caffenated/carbonated drinks!! Cutting these out and putting water into your routine should defiantely help some!! ;)

That is what I am doing. I am cutting out the soda, drinking a lot of water and some juice. With that, exercise and healthier food choices, the weight will probably come right off.

I have switched to diet. I have never been a huge soda drinker, but when I do I grab diet. I noticed a difference for sure. Beer also had a big impact on me. When I was seriously losing weight, I cut it out all together and dropped a few pounds pretty quickly.

Actually, my mom read an article in a Health (I think it was) magazine, that the Splenda sweetener that they use in Diet pop (sry we call it pop) actually doesn't not make you lose weight. It can actually make you gain weight, so she went back to drinking regular.

The studies where they say the sweetener makes you gain weight is because they say people who drink diet soda tend to induldge more foodwise. For example, you drink all diet soda and think you've saved calories so that you can have a piece of chocolate cake or whatever. The sweetener in diet soda can't make you gain because there's no calories, it may make a person crave more as far as food though I'm not sure. Anyway, I'm just a big advocate for water, water, water. Drinking water is best and if you must drink soda at all I'd drink diet.

Hhhmmmmmm? Maybe this is my problem too?
I used to be a big Dr Pepper drinker and while I still LOVE it, I know I will never lose weight unless I cut them out. Im not a fan of diet drinks, but I can drink the flavored diet DPs. I might have one a week, so thats really good. I have to keep them out of the house, because if I dont, I will not drink water the way I should.

Yeah,
I'm not a huge soda drinker but there's just those days where you need caffeine!!!!! and when I do, I usually drink Moutain Dew which has alot of sugar! So... I figured I would "TRY" to drink Diet instead and start drinking more H20 again! The new flavored H2o's are pretty good by the way, the ones that have colors to it. I can't remember the name but I will post it once I remember it.

Ok, I don't know about diet sodas, but I was drinking about a six pack of soda a day (eek!) a few years ago. I stopped drinking it cold turkey, did my own exercises, and lost about 20 in a month. I have since gained about 10 back, but that is because I am hooked on coffees again. OOPS!

One of my very close friends when he was in university majoring in health sciences wrote a thesis on dieting and pop (soda as you girls call it in the US).
It turned out that regardless of what type of pop, or diet or regular it did give you inches on your tummy. When taking pop away from the people they ended up loosing more then an inch average on their tummy's. Then put them bak onto their regualr drinks (which varied widly from ginger ale to pepsi, to diet coke etc) and all the inches came back.

I switched to diet a few years ago. I didn't like the taste but now I actually prefer it. I dont drink it too much anyway and when I do ya know sometimes i add some rum. So I guess my answer doesn't help much. But I would think diet HAS to be a little better for u than regular.
