I'm not planning on getting married until May 14, 2011 and I really want to start planning now. I'm putting my deposit down tomorrow and I'm already starting to work on my guest book. Should I wait closer till the wedding to start doing some DIY projects along with the planning, etc.? I've already started my guest list and seating chart. I work full time and go to school so I don't really have alot of extra time during the day. I don't want to start too soon but at the same time I don't want to wait to start getting ready for the wedding. I love to plan and organize and its hard not to do that now. Any brides who started planning a year out and regretted it since it was too soon?

I don't think it's ever too soon! You've got your head on straight right now, the stress of the wedding isn't getting to you yet  so you might as well do the stuff you can do now. And, if you end up not liking whatever it is you have plenty of time to change it. :)

Hehe I'm not so sure about the stress not getting to me yet. I've already had one melt down and it was awful. But that was over a really big thing so hopefully that won't happen often. But thanks for the comment! Now to decide what to do next. :)

Oh yeah, I started planning and DIY'ing a year before. And by February I was all done and just waited. That was super-boring! On the weekends, even my DH noticed I had nothing to do! :laugh2:

I started planning 2 years before the wedding (well, it's been 1 year and 8 months of planning so far, but when the wedding rolls around, will be 2 years).

I'm so glad I started that far ahead of time, now that we've run into a snag with our money issues, had we only just now started planning I think I would end up just calling it off.

I've done a few DIY projects for ours, and I'm glad I had the time to do them! I made all the bouquets, bouts, and corsages and I'm so glad they're done and out of the way and I never have to worry about them again...along with all my other projects!

I say do as much as you can now, because you never know what's going to go on in your life down the road! Especially if you're already a busy person! :)

Good luck and happy planning! :flower4u:

I totally agree!!! I started a year and 7 months early! I'm planning on doing a lot of DIY for our wedding (I've already started!), so I wanted to make sure I had lots of time for it (sometimes projects take a bit longer than you anticipate!). It sounds like you're super busy with school and work, so I think starting early will let you keep yourself balanced between your responsibilities and reduce the stress.

Its great financially too, as it allows you to spread costs out! And you often get first dibs on the vendors of your choice (no need to be disappointed that your date isn't available).

The trick is, you start your DIY now. By the time of the wedding, it will take up at least one room of your house, maybe two. And then when you get rid of it all, you'll have room for a nursery. ;-)

I agree that its never too early! We were engaged for 18 months and I planned and did stuff every single one of those months! Its better to have it done early, then running around at the last minute getting stuff done. Have fun!
