Matt and have have been spoiled as far as utilities goes. Our first apartment we didn't have to pay utilities and where we live now we pay a flat $30 a month since there would be no way to meter what we use.

We've taken advantage of that. I like to be cold when I sleep so usually especially at night we keep the air at 68... haha which is perfect for sleeping for us (I get it from my dad - my mom would have 10 blankets on).

Since we decided to get our apartment a month early so we can take our time moving in we are spending an extra months rent that we don't have to so we are going to really try to cut back on expenses like electric for the first few months. Also we need to get a feel for paying for it and seeing how much it will be. So no more 68 for us.

Anyways so I am upping the temperature in our apartment the last few days to acclimate ourselves haha. I currently have it set on 75 and seeing how that works out. So what do you keep yours at when you have to have it on?

I haven't used the A/C in 7 months

However, cold weather I usually set the thermostat between 68-71 depending on how cold I am, and in hot weather I usually put the thermostat around 72. My A/C takes forever so I can put it on 72 and it won't actually GET to 72 though

It's a lot cheaper for me to run the A/C than the heater for some reason. I probably pay about $45 a month for the A/C in the summer. That is, IF I'm remembering correctly. But I know I pay well over $100 a month for the heater in the winter :urgh:

I hate A/C - it makes me too cold! So I don't turn it on. DH does and then I go behind him and turn it off. And then he goes behind me and turns it on again. And so on and so forth all summer.
Same deal in the winter with the heater - he turns it on, I turn it off. He turns it on, I turn it off.
It's the battle of the thermostat in my house. ;)
I like to use a fan in the summer and a blanket in the winter.

FH and I fight over the A/C every summer.I hate it and he loves it.He turns it on,I turn it off.He likes it to stay cold in here during the summer months.I love the heat.I'm happy with just having a celling fan on.But when he turns it on he sets to about 69 or 70,then I come along and set it up to 85 or 90.

Being in the UK we don't have A/C. We open a window.

If too cold we put a jumper on

Our A/C rarely ever gets turned off. We don't use the heat because it hasn't gotten cold enough.

I'm actually dealing a lot better with the 75 than I thought I would be. Our bedroom here doesn't have ceiling fans, but our new one will so hopefully that will help with keeping the a/c on a higher temp.

Being on the top floor will probably cause our a/c to work harder though :(

We usually keep it somewhere between 70 - 75. The weather was nice enough to just have the doors and windows open for a few weeks and now it's getting to hot for that. I'm not looking forward to our summer electricity bill!

I'm the one who always wants the A/C on and Chad is the one who wants it warmer. Growing up, my mom was always on so many meds that made her hot so the A/C was constantly on...I just got so used to it being on the cooler side at home. However, I leave the house and I almost always have a jacket on though! It's weird...don't ask. LOL

Hm... I'm not sure yet. We've only had it on a couple times in this house, and DH turned it on. Before, we've had ACs that just had high, medium, or low settings. Last summer I'd have it on low or not at all, and then DH would get home and turn it on high. So I bet he'll be setting it to a lower temp. once he starts using it... and I'll be covered in blankets.

Right now we have it set to 75 and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Then again, it's not unbearably hot yet either. We like to be cold at night too and the ceiling fan is usually enough of a supplement. Keeping the door closed also helps keep the cool air in!

gah i wish our ac had a thermostat... our apartment has this ancient thing in the wall that sucks up electricity... so when its hot, it's on at night to keep us cool but it has yet to be warm enough to warrant turning it on during the day... but our apartment does not get a lot of direct sunlight either so it stays fairly cool even on the hottest of days...

At my mom's house growing up, she always kept the heat at 72 in the winter, and the a/c at 74 all summer.

In our townhouse we keep it at 70 all year, but the upstairs here gets SO hot so it's usually quite a bit warmer. I'm hoping in our house we can move it up to 72 or 74 to cut costs, but right now it's just way too hot at night, even with the fan on.

Whether its heat or air conditioning, we usually keep it set to 67/68*, sometimes a degree warmer in the summer, depending. We like it cold at night as well, but we set it at like 62*, or keep the bedroom windows open because usually it gets cool enough at night.
