Hollywood Hair
Old Hollywood coifs are simply gorgeous. Romantic and curly, the hairstyles of the time leave the Depression behind, meanwhile rejecting the flapper extremes of the Roaring Twenties (http://www.favorideas.com/wedding-themes/fanciful-themes/roaring-twenties-wedding-theme/).
Hair color had just hit the marketplace, and was still considered a little outrageous. Hair tech being in its infancy, also, the result was those brassy reds, corn-white blonds and platinum blonds we love so well. Don't be afraid to be bold.
Most hair was on the short side -- shoulder-length or shorter. Popular styles of the time include pin curls, finger waves, marcel waves, croquignole curls, and ringlets -- all of which required substantial styling products and plenty of time underneath a "bonnet" hair dryer. In hair as in fabric, shine was divine.
To replicate this look, create a deep side part, wave and set your hair, finish with a shine spray and adorn with a glittering hairpin or hair clip.
Screen Siren Makeup
Think Gwen Stefani and you'll know almost everything at a glance. Old Hollywood beauticians would:
<LI class=li2>pluck the brows thin into a dramatic curve or arch, then darken them again with an eyebrow pencil. <LI class=li2>use foundation and face powder for a flawless, porcelain finish. <LI class=li2>choose more natural tones for daytime, but a deep red lipstick for evening.
consider adding a beauty mark.

I think black and white ultra sexy gowns are the way to go. Brides don't be afraid to add color in your gown. Wear gloves-they scream Hollywood!

This is my favorite out of the two. It is a Maggie Sottero. Arrabella" Wedding Dress 489. This screams Hollywood!

Invite your friends to an oscar ceremony & an evening with the stars
INVITATIONS
http://www.theatrebreaks.com/partydilemmas/masks.gif
Raid the Christmas box & write invitations on gold stars. Alternatively, cut out your own from stiff card & spray with gold paint. Other templates used could be the comedy/tragedy masks & the Oscar statue.
Buy a copy of Hello magazine & cut & paste pictures of celebrities onto the front of a folded piece
of card. Write the party details on the inside.
Draw & cut out a gold star approx. 3 inches wide & glue onto a folded piece of card. Draw & cut
out a piece of film & glue artistically over the star. Write the party details in each frame.
DECOR
Decorate the venue with as much glitz as you can. Gold stars, swathes of gold & red material & glitter. If you can manage a red carpet at the entrance, so much the better.
Hang a gold star on the door of each area used, to describe it. For example the toilet door could read:
http://www.theatrebreaks.com/partydilemmas/star7.gif
Cover the table with a white cloth & decorate with gold material down the centre or spray dried
flowers gold & arrange with greenery for a centre piece.
Use gold candles, serviettes & serving platters to compliment your own crockery.
Sand down some old wooden chairs, spray gold & cover with a red cushion.
Transform cheap glasses with gold & silver relief paint.
FANCY DRESS
Ask guests to come as a famous actor/actress or depicting their favourite film (be prepared for the Incredible Hulk gracing your elegant diner party if you go for the latter).
http://www.theatrebreaks.com/partydilemmas/coupledancing.gif
MENU
For a large gathering, go for a glitzy buffet. With celebrities, looks are everything so it's the
presentation that counts. Serve food on gold platters with artistic garnishes.
Suggestions:
Dips served in a cabbage leaf bowl
http://www.theatrebreaks.com/partydilemmas/champagne.gif

Roast peppers with thyme cream cheese
celery & flower the radishes.
Mozerella, tomato & basil mini tarts
Smoked salmon blinis with caviar
Sesame prawn toasts
Mushroom & ricotta puffs
Sausage filo parcels
Chicken satay with peanut sauce
Pork & apricot roulade
DESSERTS
Chocolate fountain with fruit & profiteroles for dipping

Just some tips I found:
http://www.take2weddings.com/themes/g/hollywood.gifHollywood Wedding
As your white limo whispers to a halt before the expectant crowd, the handsome man at your side smiles lovingly into your eyes. You step gracefully from the car, your diamonds sparkling with every movement. ('Diamonds' are a state of mind!) You pause as a mass of avid fans and photographers surround you, begging a moment of your precious time. Magnanimously, you scrawl your autograph and casually tilt your head for the snapshot of the century. (First making sure your good side is towards the camera, of course!) Finally, clinging possessively to your leading man, you reluctantly tear yourself away from your adoring fans and head for the elaborate reception that is being held in your honour.
Is this all just a dream? No, this could be your wedding!
All it needs is a little planning and some friendly co-operation on the part of your guests (fans). You could even be presented with an Oscar for an award winning performance, before the day is out.
The Command Performance
Entry Tickets
Have your invitations designed to resemble tickets for a show
Word invitations as if you are inviting your guest to a film premier or a night at the Oscar ceremonies. Use phrases such as 'first night' 'a command performance' 'star billing'. Include advice on 'audience participation' and explain the theme of your wedding and any specific requests for dress or behaviour on the part of willing guests
Asking your female guests to wear fancy cocktail dresses and loads of jewellery will add to the Hollywood ethos and make the guests feel as if they are a real part of the fun. But be sure to emphasise that such dress is optional, so that more conservative guests are not made to feel uncomfortable.
The Title Role
For her starring role, the bride must choose the perfect dress...
A figure hugging, draped style in sparkling metallic gold fabric. It must be slinky, sexy and showy
A 1950's style wedding dress, with a huge skirt and strapless top
Outrageous design straight from the Paris fashion shows (or a clever copy)
Wear long white gloves and a white 'fur' stole
If you are having a church service, cover a décolleté dress with a demure shrug or long glitzy waistcoat
Wear plenty of sparkling jewellery, every starlet knows that diamonds are a girl's best friend!
Wear black 'jet' jewellery with a white dress. (You could go for a 'black and white' movie theme and dress your bridesmaids in shiny black dresses)
The Leading Man
He'll need to look the part for his command performance...
James Bond in his superbly fitting dinner jacket. (What girl could resist!)
White suit, brightly coloured shirt and shades (but not during the service, please, she wants to see your eyes)
Medallion man - let's see the suntan and the chest hairs!
Starlets Audition
The supporting cast, (bridesmaids), also need to look glamorous - but not enough to outshine the star!
Glitzy cocktail dresses
50's style, full skirt, strapless bodice with a matching stole and lots of 'diamonds'
Outrageous 'designer' dresses
Slinky dresses and feather boas or 'fur' wraps
Child Stars
Dress your flower girl in Shirley Temple style. Ribbons in the hair, short full-skirted dress, tap shoes tied with ribbons and carrying a film inspired cuddly toy
Dress as mini film star, with sunglasses and carrying a glamorously dressed Barbie doll
Male Hopefuls (groomsmen)
Dark suits and dark glasses, this will create some great photos!
Follow the style of the groom if it is unorthodox. Just think - half a dozen gold medallions glinting in the sun, as they nestle against macho, hairy chests encased in scarlet satin shirts - it will be enough to make Granny go weak at the knees
A Bouquet for the Star
A shower bouquet. This is large and showy and was much loved in the thirties. It is a round bouquet with a cascade of different length ribbons falling from it, some reaching almost to the floor. Each ribbon has flowers attached by loveknots all the way down its length, creating a 'shower' of blossom
A hand tied bouquet of large, white lilies or other striking or exotic flowers
Arriving in Style
It has to be the stretch limo!! The entire wedding party should be able to fit inside - so only one trip needed!
Other transport can be considered, as long as it is outrageous, ostentatious or totally chic. Film stars are not known for conforming, they are out to shock and be noticed.
Hiring a Father Christmas sleigh in the height of summer
Travelling to your wedding in the local fire engine
Stopping the traffic with a Roman chariot
Hold your reception at a zoo venue and you could arrive on an elephant!
A riverside venue would allow you to arrive by motor launch

A Glittering Occasion
The Studio
Almost anywhere can be transformed into a little Hollywood - here are some suggestions:
A plush hotel dating from the 30's or 40's or 50's
A dance hall or nightclub, with faceted rotating mirror ball and spotlights
A large warehouse, complete with stage scenery, old fashioned film cameras and huge spotlights
Any marquee or village hall that can be decorated!
A Grand Entrance
Allow your guests to arrive at the reception ahead of you, so that they are ready and waiting for your grand entrance. If you wish to have a reception line, then have your guests line up to be introduced to you as you walk down the room.
Your arrival can be marked with a fanfare of trumpets and an announcement by the master of ceremonies. Write him a script if necessary, but make sure you are introduced to your fans in glowing terms. "Our favourite leading lady and her co-star" "The moment you have all been waiting for" "The star of the show" "The stars will sign autographs now" "You may take photographs".
Provide party cameras and photographs to be autographed, so that these are ready for your guests and let close friends know the plans in advance. Then be prepared to be mobbed by your adoring fans!
The Food of Love
Let your menu reflect extravagance and glamour. Use elaborate lettering and give creative names to the dishes, with an explanation added.
Don't forget to include the 'Marilyn Monroe Cheesecake', no Hollywood gathering would be complete without it!
Serve elaborate cocktails in frosted glasses, with plenty of swizzle sticks, umbrellas, fruit and cherries
Serve James Bond Martinis - shaken not stirred
Dish up individual deserts decorated with lighted sparklers
A Cake to Die For!
Design your cake to look like a bandstand or pavilion. Stack the bottom two tiers together, then place a dome-shaped, third tier on longer than usual pillars. Between the second and third tier, surrounded by the columns, place a bride and groom cake topper. Decorate the top tier to resemble a 'bandstand roof' with an elaborate centre finial.
The Stage Set
Understated elegance or in-your-face ostentation, the choice is yours, take your pick of the following ideas:
Lay down a red carpet at the entrance and stand topiary trees or tall flower arrangements on either side
Use director's chairs with the occupant's name on the back - no need for place cards!
Label the chairs at the top table as if for a film production. For example:
Stars (the bride and groom)
Producers (the bride and groom's parents)
Director (the best man)
Starlet (chief bridesmaid)
Place head table on raise platform and place glamorous curtains as a backdrop
Name tables after famous film stars
Tether clusters of helium balloons above each table centre
Place an ice bucket and large bottle of champagne at the centre of each table (real or fake!!) Add party streamers and champagne glasses
Sprinkle gold or silver confetti stars over the tables
Use large flamboyant blooms for your table centre
Add sparkly with a scattering of glass nuggets
Place a candelabra based floral arrangement on each table
Write place names on glittering, silver, star shapes
Dress tables in white cloths with gold or silver stars
Place sparkly gold material at the centre of each table
Decorate venue with gold and silver balloons, metallic tinsel 'curtains' and swags of sparkling material
For black and white movie theme, use a marquee with a black roof lining covered in twinkling white lights. Use black and white balloons
Replicas of clapper boards, black plastic cut outs of cameras, studio lights and film strips are available from party suppliers; use these to help create a 'Hollywood' feel
Cut out large letters to spell out the word H O L L Y W O O D and suspend across the room
Suspend golden stars all round the venue, with photographs of famous film stars in the centre of each one
Place items that represent Hollywood around the room:
Charlie Chaplain cane and hat
Feather boas
Large film posters
Glossy pin-up photographs (these could be of the bride!)
Floor standing microphones
Pedestal cameras
Model statues of Oscars (available from trophy engravers)
Model clapper boards with details of the wedding written on them
Champagne bottles, streamers and fake jewels
Place party bombs and 'parti fetti' (holographic tubes packed with confetti) on the tables. Organise the guests to set off all the bombs at once at the end of the meal
A balloon-drop bag would be fun and plenty of silver and gold balloons. Balloon sculptures of huge heart shapes
Awards Ceremony
Replica Oscars are available from party suppliers and trophy engravers and you can add to the Hollywood feel by having the best man present the bride and groom with their very own engraved Oscar. What you award it for, is up to you! Best Actor and Actress
Best Promising New Double Act
Best Comedy act
Or for a newly created category of best bride and groom!
Other Oscars could be presented to:
Best producers (parents of bride and groom)
Best Director (best man)
Supporting cast (bridesmaids and ushers)
Souvenirs
Place small gifts or favours on the tables for your guests:
Autograph albums with a personal message from the bride and groom
Glossy, signed photograph of the happy couple, with the date and place of the wedding
Champagne bottle fridge magnets
Silver or gold covered sugared almonds in metallic 'top hats'
Give each guest a token for a photo booth, which is set up at the reception, so that each guest will have a photograph of themselves at the wedding
Curtain Call
Here are some more ideas:
Treat an elderly guest as honoured visitor, present him or her with a signed photo and take a picture with the 'stars'
Hire film star 'look-alikes' to mingle with your guests and act the part of stars. If your budget is tight, ask your local penniless drama students to earn some money playing the roles
Ushers helping with parking could wear roller blades
Print a fictitious magazine or newspaper with article about your 'stars'
Use a mime artist (students are cheap!) to offer a flower to every lady in the room
Have an ice sculpture of the Oscar statuette
Art students could also form a still life tableau, with everyone completely covered in gold, including their faces. They could pose at the entrance as your guests arrive
Have a grand piano at the reception and hire a glamorous singer
Make speeches in 'Hollywood' style, referring to star performances, Oscar nominations etc.
Bus your guests to the local airport to see the 'stars' off in their plane - a half-hour trip round the bay and you can land again
Ask your photographers to be very 'obvious', lots of flash photography and posing
Have 'press interviews' staged with the bride and groom before they cut the cake
Hire a big band sound for your music, with plenty of motion picture theme tunes
Use a roving spotlight and hand out spot prizes with great ceremony
Hold a talent competition
End your day with a firework or laser display

Have wait staff dresses as old actors or actresses. Defiantely would be cool to have a Marilyn Monroe look a like.
Be sure to have a red carpet.
For music include Big Band style music from the "Rat Pack"
Have each table themed after a film star. Or you could have Beverly Hills table, Broadway table, Las Vegas table, Motown, etc.
Give each guest a sign autographed picture of yourself and your new husband.
If you have a DJ be sure to announce the bridal party like they are celebrities. For instance, "And here comes Lisa Thompson escorted tonight by James Walker. Lisa is wearing a Alfred Angelo gown this evening."
If it is cool outisde a fur coat is a must!

One is to serve Classic Hollywood Cuisine -- you know, the kind they're still serving at gritty diners in the real Hollywood. Where the waitstaff has stayed put since they served Bogart at the bar.
Drinks are simple: chilly champagne, dry Martinis (with olives), Bloody Marys. All you have to do is get them perfect.
Then, go for luxuriant, heavy classics like veal marsala, filet mignon, broiled lobster, roast lamb. Prime the pump with appetizers like caviar, crackers and cheese, stuffed mushrooms and miniature quiche. Load on the dairy-rich desserts -- such as bavarian cream pudding, dessert crepes, cherries jubilee or biscuit tortoni. (Be sure to have "911" speed dialed into your cell phone -- every second counts.)
-or-
But what if you want to pull a 180 and have all the fun of a modern movie theater? Opt for this twist on Martha Stewart's "candy buffet," and set up your own concessions counter. With the help of a good rental agency, you could offer one or all of these dramatic treats:
Popcorn cart -- complete with coconut oil, yellow "butter," and brightly-colored popcorn bags or boxes
Soft pretzel warmers: get the dessert pretzels, too (cinnamon and brown sugar), and have savory dips like honey-mustard and french dressing
Hot dog cart, with condiments
Nachos and cheese warmerDon't forget the exciting movie sweets you see at the cinema:
Ice cream cart: stock with Fudgesicles, Creamsicles, nutty sundae cones, chocolate and vanilla sandwich bars.

Here is an insert on what the couple wrote about their day.
. What unique elements did you want for your wedding day?
Brenda: I wanted this wedding to be different than your typical wedding, so it was important to me to have very creative touches in the ceremony and the reception. The real trick was having fun without overshadowing the holiness of the wedding ceremony. It is imperative to remember that ultimately a wedding is about the marriage of two people and not about the party that follows the vows. Some of the touches that I planned for included a red carpet leading to the door of the Annex with a limo parked on it during the reception so guests could get in on one side and have their picture taken when they got out. I created flower arrangements in movie theater popcorn buckets and had a working popcorn cart with boxed theater candy. We had movie scores playing as guests were seated for the wedding ceremony. Our invitations looked like tickets. There were boas, hats, sunglasses and other props to wear at the reception for photo opportunities. We even had our own walk of fame stars and Oscars.
Brett: It was imperative that we had other film stars and celebrities attending the film premiere of Brett and Brenda, “At Last.” We purchased seven 7-foot stand-ups that included: Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Jesus, The Three Stooges, George W. Bush, Ben Stiller (“Zoolander”) and Oscar (the Oscars). It was necessary to include a short “film” prior to the wedding and some movie trivia about the “stars.” A black limo was needed and very difficult to locate in the Charleston area. White limos are the norm. Chauffeurs Unlimited and Walter Whaley, the owner, came through for us in a big way.

These are Hershey's bar wrappers. You can customize them with your name and wedding date instead of the holiday stuff.

That bag would be good for guest goodie bags to leave in hotel rooms.
