Just curious as to what you ladies decided on for your menus?
I decided against the typical banquet hall because I didn't want the chicken, roast beef, mostaciolli (sp?), mashed potatoes, and corn dinner.
Did anyone decide to go with the hall even though the menu wasn't what they wanted, because it was so beautiful?

The hall I chose is in a park, so there isn't an catering. However, there's this great catering company in town that has a WIDE variety of items. Their menu is substantial. I'm pretty sure those are going to be who we go with. However, because of my dietary problems, we're going to ask them that there are no dairy products in the wedding. Hopefully that will be doable...I don't want to have to worry what I can and can't eat. Do you know if caterers are flexible enough to do that?

Our menu is a roast beef buffet with all the good trimmings. I wanted to do something that I know most people like. Also we choose beef to support our local Canadian Cattle Farmers in their struggles with the whole BSE thing. We are farmers ourselves so we couldn't see going for turkey or something else...plus, I hate turkey, so it doesn't bother me...lol. It will be supplied by the onsite catering seeing as we are having our reception in a posh hotel. I have heard that the food there is really good so I am looking forward to finding that out for sure on the day of our reception. (I'm afraid we won't have time for it before then...the wedding is two months away now.)

I don't think any type of dietary restriction is a problem as long as you have a seasoned caterer. You can work around dairy by having a broth based soup and rice instead of potatoes. Caterers are used to no diary, low sodium, heart friendly, vegetarian, ect. A little milk problem should be nothing for them.

As for us, we are having our reception at a wonderful social club. The ball room is gorgeous, and they are letting us have the entire bar area too. They sent us the spring menu to look over and decid on over time. This winter we are going in for some tastings. (Free food, I can't wait!) So far though we are leaning towards...for hor d'oeurves: a station of garden vegetables, five spice sea scallops wrapped in bacon, mini crab cakes, pecan crusted chicken with frangelico sauce, and BBQ duck. As for dinner we are having a green salad with champagne vinagrette, wedding soup, and a choice of salmon, chicken marsala, or filet mignon. All of those will come with some yet to be determined potato and seasonal vegetable.

Mmmm I can't wait.

OOPS!
I forgot to mention what my menu was -
Lemon Pepper Chicken
Oven Roasted Parmesan Potatoes
String Beans
Caesar Salad w/Croutons
Dinner Rolls and Butter

I am having miniature 7-up cakes (version of pound cake, but they are in bundt shaped pans) with lemon glaze. They are so cute!!! They will be stacked on two tiers and a regular size cake on the third tier.

That sounds really sweet! My mother keeps trying to convince me to hold a second wedding back at home so we can have a catholic priest officiate in a catholic church and my family members who feel that three hours is too far to drive will be able to attend. That plan got nixed REAL fast.

As for the caterer, I've got one that gave me a substantial menu, it's just that most of it has dairy of some sort. They use a lot of butter. I'm thinking that they'd probably substitute margarine for it...considering all the health crazes, but I've been too busy working on graduating and moving to focus on details of the wedding at the moment. I hate putting it on hold.

I know that is sucks having to put off the wedding plans but look at it as a well deserved vacation. Remember, a wedding is a once in a lifetime event but so is graduating college. Take a few minutes to celebrate that too.
